An unCONVENTIONal Vacation

 Chapter 7

Sighing, Elrond looked out the window at the setting sun. "It's time to go…we need to find everyone and head back to the ship."

Erestor nodded, and said, "Fin and Aragorn are probably still playing chess. I'll go get them."

"I'll look for the twins, and Legolas, if he's still with them. I have no idea where they, or Gil-galad is, though. We’ll meet back here when we find them."

Heading in separate directions, the two Elves went in search of their friends.

Erestor did, indeed, find Glorfindel and Aragorn still playing chess. Glorfindel was sitting back in his chair, his arms folded across his broad warrior's chest, a gloating smile on his face. Aragorn was leaning over the board, frowning as he studied the pieces left on the squares.

"Yield, Aragorn, son of Arathorn. I have checkmate."

"Never!" Aragorn growled, flicking his eyes in Glorfindel's direction, then returning them to the board.

"Yield!"

"NO!"

Erestor sighed, rolling his eyes at the two of them. "Elrond is waiting…we have to leave now." He informed them. "Let's go…I want to go home, Fin - it's been a long day."

"What have you been doing? You look tired," Glorfindel asked Erestor, eyeing his lover.

"Having more fun than you, it appears. Have you been sitting here all afternoon?" Erestor asked, putting his hand on Fin's shoulder.

"This stubborn human won't yield," Glorfindel laughed, nodding at Aragorn.

Aragorn merely grunted, not taking his eyes from the chess pieces.

"We really have to go, Aragorn…it will soon be too dark to set sail," Erestor said.

Nodding, Aragorn said, "Alright. I yield, Glorfindel It was a good match, though."

"Aye, Your Majesty…it was. Perhaps you'd like a rematch when we get on board?"

Erestor groaned, throwing his hands up in the air. "Never have I seen two more competitive souls! I suppose you plan on leaving me alone for the entire voyage while you play?"

Laughing, Glorfindel rose, putting his arm around the slightly shorter, dark haired Elf. "I suppose you could think of something else to pass the time…let's go, Elrond must be waiting."

"I just need to make a quick purchase before we go," Erestor said, smiling up at the golden haired balrog slayer.

"What?"

"Ice cream."

Legolas, Elrohir, and Elladan had met up with Gil-galad, who was currently showing off the spear he had purchased to them, when Elrond found them.

"Let's go, we need to make the ship before full dark," Elrond said, motioning for the four of them to follow him.

"Ada…we still have to get something to bring back to Eldarion!" Elrohir said, putting his hand on his father's arm to stay him.

"With all of this junk you've purchased, you still need to buy more?" Elrond asked, gesturing toward the bundles both twins carried. "If you put anymore weight on the ship, it will sink!"

"C'mon, Ada…it will only take a moment…we know just what we want to buy him…come and see," Elladan laughed, nodding toward one of the nearby vendors.

Elrond looked over Elladan's shoulder as the twin pointed out what he wished to purchase to the vendor. Elrond's eyes grew round and wide at the item, and he began to shake his head vigorously.

'No, no. no, NO!" he cried. "You can't possibly be serious…Aragorn will kill you!"

"It's perfect, Ada…Eldarion will absolutely love it!" Elrohir laughed, paying the vendor.

Taking the item from the vendor, Elladan turned and began to stick it into one of his bundles.

"For Eru's sake, 'Dan…what is it? Legolas asked, wanting to see the purchase before Elladan deposited in the bag.

Holding out his hand to Legolas, Elladan grinned widely as the Mirkwood Prince bent his head to see.

Legolas gasped, looking up at the twins with a shocked expression on his face.

In Elladan's palm lay a lovely, small golden ring. Legolas' keen eyes could pick out the Elvish engraving that ran along the side of the ring.

It said, "One ring to rule them all…"

Chuckling, Elladan slipped the ring into one of his bags, and together, they went off to meet up with Erestor, Glorfindel, and Aragorn.

Sadly, they left the convention and headed back to the dock at which they had moored the White Ship to start their journey back home.

It had definitely been a trip that would be remembered for many years to come. Unconventional, to be sure, but memorable nonetheless.
