Without Looking Back

Chapter 7

Thranduil sat in his study reading the daily reported when the lady of the Lothlorien interring his mind startled him. He wasn’t on the best if terms with them so she caught him completely unaware. It irritated him to no end that she would dare to do such a thing. Galadriel knhat hat he disliked her probing is mind. He relaxed into his chair and tried to cool his raging temper.

//Please forgive my hast my lord Thranduil, but a matter has been brought to my attention that you need to be aware of with out delay.//

//Kindly get on with it my lady, so as I may get back to more important matters!//Thranduil silently sent her rubbing his temples in distress.

//The daughters of Oropher have been found.// Galadriel replied with a huge smile on her face.

//What? Where? Are they well?// Thranduil demanded aloud starling everyone in the room. His only son and hire was looking at him as if he had lost his wits at long last.

//My Marchwarden is escorting them to the city as we speak my lord.// Galadriel chuckled at his response.

//Are you sure that it is them my lady?// Thranduil said with a wistful smile on his beautiful face.

//Aye my Lord it is they who we have waited for all this time my lord.//

//Where did you find them?// Thranduil gasped leaning back in his chair.

//My wardens found them exiting the crystal cavers.//

//What of Kayla my lady?”

//They were alone my lord.//

//We will be leaving for Lorien by dawn my lady! And t—thank you!// with that the connection was broken.


Legolas stood from his seat by the window and walked across the room to stand behind his father. Laying a gentle hand on his shoulder. He knew that he was commutating with one of two people. From the reaction his father was giving it had to be either the lord or thady ady of Lothlorien. He prayed it had nothing to do with his beloved Rumil. He was still hopeful that his father would change his mind, and let then be bounded at last.
‘Oh Rumil my love please do not lose hope. I will find a way for us yet!’ Legolas send his love in silent prayer.

Thranduil jumping to his feet and striding to the door and bellowing for his chief adviser startled Legolas out of his musings.

“Adar what is it?”

“At last the twins have been found!”

“Found…. What have they gone and done this time?” Legolas smirked with a half smile.

The door swung open and Silinde rushed in. “Yes my lord?”

Thranduil was pacing the floor to his study like a caged Orc. Ringing his hand. He looked up “We are leaving for Lorien at dawn. Please make sure that everything is readied for the journey.”

“Lorien my lord?” Silinde gasped.

“Yes my sisters have at last been found. They are in route to the city as we speak. We will be traveling fast so pack only what we will need.”

“Sister’s Ada what sister’s? Legolas asked looking at his father as if he had grown an extra head. “Ada are you feeling alright?”

“Yes my son. Many years ago my father took a lover after the death of my mother. When he was killed in the battle of the last alliance Kayla was with child, twin elleths. After father died Kayla left Mirkwood and disappeared in Lorieorien. Somehow she was in the crystal caves and vanished. I all was assumed that they were keeping them from me out of spite for my not marring Celebrain.”

“Why would you be marring her?” Legolas asked clearly bewildered.

“Oropher had arranged a marriage to bring together our two realms.”

“Oh” Legolas said and sat down in the nearest chair.

“I was apposed to the idea from the start. I had already met and fell in love with your mother. I wanted to bond with her, but your grandfather had other ideas. He thought that we needed this alliance with Lorien.”

“I see, is that why you so dislike them then father?”

“Well after father died I informed them in no uncertain t tha that I would not marry their daughter. They tried to persuade me otherwise but I was set in my resolve. They send a message that they were coming to Mirkwood. But by the time they had arrived I had married your mother.”

“Oh I bit that went over real well!” Legolas said with wide eyes.

“Celeborn and I had word, to say the least.” Thranduil chuckled taking his chair once more. “You see Celebrain, and I had met a few years earlier. When I a companied father to Lorien. For her she fell in love with me on first sight, and at first I her. Then we had to return home then I met your mother, and that was the end of that. But she never forgot about me and still wanted something I could no longer give.”

“But Ada what did they say when they got here and you were married to mother?” Legolas asked smiling at the shiver that ran up his father’s back.

“Well it came tows.ows.” Thranduil said looking sheepish.

“No you hit Celeborn?” Leg gas gasped

“No Celebrain had a mean right hook. I sported a nasty black eye for almost a week.” At that Thranduil and Legolas burst out in a fit of laughter.

“ But Ada what did mother have to say for that?” Legolas asked after he brought his merit under control.

“She just a laughed at me.” Thranduil snickered.

“No Really?” This brought another fit of laughter from Legolas.

“You see when she hit me, I landed in a huge puddle of mud. Muc the the amusement of everyone around me. I was quite bent out of shape. They left soon after, and I haven’t seen them sense. I was very saddened when Celebrain was attacked and sailed into the west. It wasn’t much later when your own mother was killed.”

Thranduil gave a heavy sigh and looked back at Legolas. “So you my son need to go and get ready for the trip. Maybe you will be able to see that Galadhrim of yours. What was his name Rumiel or something?” Thranduil asked with mischief in his eyes.

“It’s Rumil Ada.” Legolas smiled and threw himself around his father’s neck. “Thank you Ada for letting me come along. It has been so long sense I have seen him.”

With that Legolas as out of the room and flying down the hall. Mush to the delight of Thranduil. It had been long sense he had seen him smile so. Maybe this was a new beginning for them all.
