Mark had tried to call Sean for two days now, but he never answered.
Deciding to make him understand, he wrote everything they had told to Alex to make her agree to the plan, ending the letter with the fact that the next day at about ten o’clock, the girl would be on a plane to Rome.
Before to going home that night, he faxed the letter to Bean’s home, sighing deeply and walking away from the office, turning off the light beside him.
Sean read the fax only late that night, when he returned home after having spent the whole evening at the pub with his friends. When he saw it, he grasped the sheet carelessly, expecting it to be an offer for some movie or who knows what else, and froze in place when he identified the logo of Mark's agency on the paper. Sobriety struck him, the reassuring exhilaration brought by too many beers suddenly gone. Since his legs were threatening to give away, he sat down on the sofa to read it, and he involuntarily held his breath when he read the last lines.
She was going to return home.
The sheet was neatly folded and secured in a pocket of his jeans when Sean entered the airport, and a square package was in his hands. He glanced at the display, browsing though numbers and cities, until he finally saw it.
Rome. Terminal seven.
Without thinking about it twice, he rushed across the huge hall, holding tight the small bundle, but stopped abruptly when he identified her from afar. She was with Gwen and Mark, saying goodbye. Gathering all his bravery he resumed his walking, this time unhurriedly, and took a deep breath.
Alex hugged her friend, wiping the tears, and looked at them while they walked away.
Just then she noticed him advancing, and without thinking twice, she turned and almost ran to the gate.
Sean increased the pace at once to catch up with Alex. Once close enough he circled the girl, forcing her to look at him, and without a word handed her the small bundle.
When she opened the diary, she had to recall all of her self-control not to burst into tears.
But another confrontation with him was the last thing she wanted.
Alex had spent the last few days into the bed, eating almost nothing, just crying and thinking of him.
At his house, she had preferred to go away, for she knew all too well that screaming and shouting at him wouldn’t work.
“Thank you. I have go now...” she whispered, without looking at him, freeing herself and walking to the toilet, the tears blurring her view.
"Alex, wait!" he said hurriedly, almost running after her. He stopped the fleeing girl by grasping her arm, yet caring not to tighten the grip enough to hurt, and turned her around to look into her eyes again.
"Please..." Sean whispered then, his tone almost pleading, "Please don't go...I...I can't be without you..."
“Let me go...” she whispered back, sobbing helplessly, not looking at him.
She knew all too well that her lower lip was quivering like a little baby, and that they were giving a show into the airport that probably would be reported in the newspaper tomorrow, but she didn’t care.
“It’s not my place...go back to Abigail, she was right about me...”
"No, Alex..." he said softly, cupping her face with both hands and staring steadily at her. "No, she wasn't. And I don't want her, I want you...I want you by my side. Please don't go...don't leave me..."
“I lied to you, Sean!” she almost cried out. “How can you be so fond of me when I’ve been such a bitch to you? I shouldn’t have come in England, and I shouldn’t have...fallen for you...”
"I am not just fond of you!" Sean retorted, raising his voice in return and thus causing some people to turn towards them to see what all the fuss was about. But it didn't matter, he didn't care. The only thing that mattered was that his Alex was slipping away from him, and the mere thought to live his life without her scared him to death.
He abruptly clung to her, circling her with both arms, and looked intensely in her eyes as he whispered softly: "I love you. I love you, Alex."
Those words caused her surrender, and she hugged him, hiding her face onto his chest, crying desperately.
“I love you too…” she whispered after a while, still trembling with her eyes closed, as if opening them would break the magic.
Sean cradled her into his arms until the sobs diminished, all the while caressing her hair and neck with loving, soothing strokes. When Alex eventually relaxed enough to look at him, he didn't give her the time to do or say anything, for a moment later his lips were pressing onto hers to claim a kiss. It was unhurried, undemanding and stunningly sweet, almost unreal, the taste of her mouth mingled with the saltiness of tears.
"Let me take you away from here." he whispered softly when their lips parted. "Let me take you home."
“I-I’ve got to take my bags...” she just whispered, smiling at him and gently caressing his face with the utmost care.
He didn't reply, but smiled in return and took her hand; too ecstatic to express the happiness he was feeling with mere words.
Once at home, Alex put down her bags, but didn’t open them, watching the spectacular garden outside of the window.
She was still much to scared about losing him.
Sean approached her from behind to hug her tight, and ducked to place a quick kiss on her neck.
"I love you." he whispered again then, smiling happily. "I'll never tire of saying it to you. I've missed you terribly."
“I’ve missed you, too,” she whispered in return, leaning back to rest her head on his chest, sighing softly. “And I love you so much...I’m sorry if I hurt you, but I didn’t know you and when...when we made love, I was way too scared to lose you forever...”
"It's okay." he said softly, embracing her even tighter. "I'm not goin' to leave you. Ever. Now, let's take your luggage upstairs, call Gwen and Mark to inform them that everything's all right and then...well, and then we could share a cuddle or two. Or bathe together. Or even make love over and over and over again."
“I love you.” she told him again, turning to kiss him softly on his lips and then taking her bags and settling them in their bedroom.
When she had finished, she took hold of the cordless phone and called her friends, explaining with a smile that everything was fine, and she was living with Sean.
Sean entered the room a few minutes later, carrying a seemingly quite expensive bottle of champagne and two glasses, and somehow managed to close the door behind him. "There," he smiled, handing her a glass. "We have to celebrate."
Chuckling, Alex took hold of the both glasses while he opened the bottle.
Then she looked longingly at him while he served her some champagne, and smiled at her beloved.
“You’re…incredible.”
"Not as much as you, anyway." Sean whispered in return, leaning in to kiss her and then raising his glass up, a bright smile on his lips.
"Cheers, my love."
“Cheers.” she smiled, raising her glass and sipping her champagne.
"So...have you decided what to do now?" he asked, grinning mischievously. "Sweet cuddles, hot bath, passionate lovemaking?" And with that he took her glass, lying it on the nightstand with his own, and then clung to her in quite an eloquent way. "Decide quickly, or I'll do it myself..."
“Passionate lovemaking…” she just whispered, putting one hand at the back of his head to push him towards her, kissing him with ardour and brushing her breasts on his chest.
"Agreed..." he almost moaned against Alex's lips, pressing their groins together. He kissed her again, roughly and demanding this time, while his hands roamed on her back and further down to slide underneath the fabric of her jeans, and then grasp her buttocks to draw her even closer.
Moaning in response, Alex started to rub herself against him, over and over, alternatively kissing and nibbling at his neck and earlobe, knowing all too well all of his weak spots.
When she couldn’t wait any more, she grinned at him, and taking with both hands his t-shirt, she ripped it apart in a single, fluid motion.
“I’m a bad girl…”
Sean stared at her wide-eyed for a moment, panting, and a wicked grin crossed his features before he literally dragged her to the bed, all the while unzipping her jeans hurriedly and nibbling at her neck.
Kicking off her jeans and panties, Alex pulled her shirt and bra off also, relishing at the wonderful feeling of his bare skin on her own, trying with unsteady hands to unzip his jeans.
Of course, Sean helped her diligently, yanking the garment off and tossing it carelessly on the ground. Then he slipped off his boxers and clung to Alex, kissing her passionately and rolling onto the bed until he was lying on top of her.
“I love you.” she whispered softly at his ear when he entered her, closing her eyes and wrapping her legs around his firm waist, clinging at his broad shoulders.
"Love you too...madly." Sean whispered back, and claimed her lips eagerly as he started to thrust inside her slowly, still holding her tight into his arms.
