Chapter 7
The crackle of the fire filled the cold and thin air of the night as the fair elven prince stood, leaning against tree with his senses strained.
'How fast the night fell this day! And what a strange day this one was! But then again, nothing since the beginning of the quest had been what one could call normal.
The two girls. What could have possibly happened to them? The elleth was obviously trying to protect the young human girl and got herself in a miserable condition with that! Still, she shows having much more determination and strength that could be normally seen in an elven maiden, especially one her age! She can be no more than 350 years old.'
Legolas observed the elven maiden sleeping deeply through the warm flames of the small fire they had put up. The fact that her lids were closed showed just about how weary she was. His line of thoughts was suddenly interrupted by the voice of his dwarf companion.
" Master elf, I would like to know how the lady fairs."_ Legolas was surprised by this. He could clearly see sincerity and concern in the dwarf's question. Certainly, these were no usual feelings of a dwarf towards an elf.
"Her wound is quite serious but she's now much better. She seems to be very strong. I do believe she'll be alright!"_ Legolas was giving an odd look at the dwarf.
"What?! Aye, I may be a dwarf and she may be an elf but I still do have feelings! I concern about the safety and well-being of every good being in Middle Earth!”_ was the dwarf’s reply to the elf’s suspicious look.
Legolas' head immediately fell down, ashamed by having doubted the dwarf's intentions.
"I'm sorry and I deeply apologise. You are right and I have absolutely no right to judge or doubt your intentions or the trueness of your feelings!”
Gimli's hand grasped lightly on Legolas' arm in sign of understanding.
"Apologies accepted! Worry not: I'm sure everything will be alright with the elven maiden!
I'm just not that sure about the little human girl! When you and Gandalf were treating the she-elf's wound we tried to be of some use and to help the little one. She did accept the food but would not allow any to get as much as near her! She did not even open her mouth to speak a single time! Something is wrong with her!"
"Aye Master dwarf! I've noticed it to, though I believe she is probably in shock. The girl won't let anyone near her except maybe for the maiden! We'll just have to wait for the maiden to get better if we want to help the child."
With that Gimli nodded and turned back towards his belongings to get some sleep. Aragorn approached Legolas with light feet but it was still enough for the elf to know he was there.
"You should get some sleep friend! It is my watch this night. Besides, you need your rest. You have not as much resistance as an elf."
"You need not tell me that! Just came to check on you! You're strange. Your mind has been completely absent the entire day!"_ came the ranger’s soft reply.
Legolas sighed deeply and gazed thoughtfully at the stars high above them. Everything was just different that night! Even the forest seemed quieter!
And it was true! Aragorn was right! He was not alright.
"I'm just a little weary, that's all!"
Aragorn looked at him concerned but still said nothing, instead just turned to go. He knew very well the prince: there was no way he could make him talk if he did not want to.
Once more the elf turned to face the mysterious elven maiden lying across the floor on the other side of the fire.
The pale light of the fire gave her silk skin and hair a magnificent soft and shining hue. At his eyes she looked the most pure and frail thing in the world. How long had it been since he had last laid with someone? Legolas tried to deviate his mind from his need and softly shook his head. He remembered what the human girl was screaming when they found them and smiled softly.
"Isilme! "_ he let out in a whisper, loud enough however for Aragorn to hear it, since he hadn't yet gotten that far away from the prince. The whisper of the elf brought an amusement smile to Aragorn's lips.
Author's Note: yes, yes it is short I know! Sorry! Hope to post the next one soon!!!
