Glorfindel sat silently staring into the flames. A glass of wine held loosely in his hand as his thoughts continued to run through his mind. It had been several weeks now since Brennil had been injured. She still showed no signs of having regained her memory.
“ All I wanted was to protect her.” Erestor said quietly as he took a seat next to Glorfindel. “ I never intended for any of this to happen.”
Without a word, Glorfindel poured some wine into Erestor’s glass then refilled his own.
“I do not know what to do.” Erestor commented.
“ we wait.” Glorfindel replied. “ Her memory has to return at some point.”
Erestor shook his head as he sipped his wine.
“yes but when?” He questioned, “ next week, next month or next year?” he continued
“I do not know.” Glorfindel sighed.
“ This cannot be easy on you either.” Erestor said.” Knowing how you feel about her and to see her growing closer with Elladan, more with each passing day.”
Glorfindel growled as he finished his glass of wine in one large sip and poured some more.
“and what would happen if Elladan does fall for her as you have?” Erestor continued, not paying attention to the look in Glorfindel’s eyes. “ If she becomes involved with him and then her memory returns..” He added
“Erestor!” Glorfindel hiss
“ This is not helping your mood is it?” The advisor finally noticed
“No it is not.” Glorfindel said.
“I am sorry.” Erestor replied. “Perhaps I should keep some thoughts to myself.” He said
“ I think you should.” Glorfindel agreed then let out a deep breath. “ what do you think I should do?” he asked, looking over at him
“ I can answer that.” Elrond replied from behind them.
“Then please do.” Erestor was the one who replied.
Elrond made his way to where they were and accepted the glass of wine from Glorfindel as he sat down.
“ She recognizes you, Glorfindel.” The elf lord began. “ she just does not realize it yet.”
Glorfindel merely raised an eyebrow as he waited for him to continue.
“ The signs are there, if one knows where to look.” Elrond said. “ She looks straight at you when you walk into the room.” He said. “ she closes her eyes briefly when you’ve called her name.”
Erestor nodded, realizing now that he to had seen this.
“ She stops to look when she hears your voice.” Elrond continued.” The memories are there, you just need to trigger them.”
Taking his time to sip his wine this time, Glorfindel thought about what he was being told.
“just exactly how am I to do this?” He asked.
“ Court her.” Erestor replied before Elrond had a chance to. “ that had been your plan before, why not now?” he added
“Erestor is right, you need to remind her of how she felt about you.” Elrond pointed out.
“ You want me to take her out somewhere and seduce her again?” Glorfindel arched an eyebrow.
Elrond laughed and shook his head in reply
“ that is the wine talking” Elrond said.” You have had more then a fair share already.” He added.” Clear your head tonight and you will know what you need to do.”
Elrond and Erestor left Glorfindel to his own thoughts and the rest of the wine.
“court her?” He sighed, not sure how that would work but knew if he did not at least try then he risked losing her completely. Once he finished off the wine, he made his way slowly to his room, dropping onto his bed and quickly falling asleep.
Glorfindel woke up to the sound of a knock at his door, almost matching the pounding in his head.
“ Lord Elrond says this is to help with the headache.” The servant said as she handed him some herbs with a glass of water. Chuckling lightly, he thanked her then closed the door.
It took a few minutes for the herbs to take effect but once they did, he was able to think clearly. He would have to thank Elrond later. For the moment he had work to do and could only hope, this would work out in the end. He grabbed what he needed then left his room, wanting to get things started.
Brennil gave a startled jump when someone had knocked at her door. Walking over slowly, she opened it very slowly.
“Yes?” she asked softly as she saw the messenger standing there.
“ I bring a message from Lord Glorfindel” The young elf replied, relieved when Brennil had opened the door
“what is it?” Brennil asked
“ He wishes for you to meet him in the gardens.” He told her. “ He said he would be past the roses and for me to give you this on his behalf.” He added as he handed her the pink rose. “ He said he knows it is your favorite.” The messenger gave a slight bow then backed away from the door before walking off.
“You should go.” Elladan said as he watched Brennil looking at the rose. “ you do not want to keep him waiting.” He added, grinning
“ What if I cannot..” She started to say then shook her head.” No, you are right I should go.” She nodded
“Then go already.” Elrohir laughed as he pushed her out the door. “ we expect to hear all the details later.” He added
Nervously, Brennil slowly made her way to the garden. Twice she almost stopped and turned back, yet she had forced herself to continue.
“ I am glad you came.” Glorfindel said once he had seen her
“ I was not sure that I should” She replied softly, having a hard time looking directly at him.
“ Come and sit” he motioned to the place next to him.
Slowly Brennil moved to sit with him, fighting the urge to lean against him.
“ I know you have been told that we do know each other” Glorfindel said after a short silence between them.” Have they mentioned how?” he asked
Brennil could only shake her head in reply, biting her lower lip gently.
“ We met in Lorien, after your father had asked me to escort you to Rivendell” he said. “ And I can tell you honestly that the journey here was a rather interesting one.” He smiled softly
Brennil shivered lightly when she saw him smile at her. She did not back away when he had reached over to tuck her hair back behind her ear.
“ Things became even more interesting after we had arrived” he told her. “ you are the most intriguing elleth I have ever met. “ he said. When she looked away from him, he reached over and turned her head back to face him. “ never has any other elleth been able to interest and infuriate me at the same time” he said quietly
As they sat in the gardens, Glorfindel told her a few other things about their time they had spent together. Though he had not gone into great detail some of it had made her blush softly and turn her head.
“Look at me, Brennil” Glorfindel said quietly.
When she turned her head back to face him, she caught his eyes. She could see the truth in them as well as the pain. He really did wish for her to remember.
“ I do not plan to give up.” he told her honestly. “No matter how long it takes for your memory to return.”
Brennil had been about to reply when Glorfindel leaned in and kissed her. Her first instinct was to pull away but the feel of his lips on hers was all to familiar and before she knew it she was responding to his kiss, melting against him as it had deepened slowly.
“ Brennil.” Glorfindel whispered as the kiss had ended and he tilted his head to kiss slowly along her neck. He felt her shiver slightly as he kissed his way to her ear, lowering her slowly onto the blanket they were sitting on. He kissed slowly along her neck again as his hand moved through her hair. He could hear her gasp softly and her hands move along his shoulders.
“Wait” she said suddenly, pushing up slightly.” I cannot do this” she said, giving him a sad smile
“ I know” He replied, resting his forehead against hers a she let out a deep breath. “ I should not have pushed like this, I am sorry.” He added softly.
“ I should go.” she said softly. When he moved to let her up, Brennil slowly got to her feet and started to walk away.
“Brennil wait.” He called after her, jumping to his feet and placing his hand on her arm before she could leave.
She turned to look at him over her shoulder
“Have dinner with me.” He said. “tonight.”
Brennil lowered her head slightly then looked back over at him.
“ I promise we will only sit and talk” he assured her
“Alright” She replied softly.” I will see you later then.” she said.
Glorfindel gave her a grateful smile then released her arms.
“ I look forward to it.” He said.
Brennil gave him a small smile then turned and left the gardens, returning to her room to find the twins already gone.
It was a few hours later when Elladan and Elrohir entered her room. Elladan ducked in time to avoid being hit with the cushion she had thrown at him
“ I have to be insane to be going along with this.” She snapped at them.
“ Did something happen?” Elladan asked, his eyebrow arched slightly
“ Do you have any idea how hard this is?” She questioned, tossing another cushion at them, this one stopped by Elrohir before it could hit his twin.
“You agreed to this” Elladan pointed out
“ Yes, proof of how insane I must be” She replied. “ what were we thinking?” she sighed as she sat down on the edge of her bed.
“ You were fine with this before” Elrohir pointed out.” what had changed?”
Brennil sighed and closed her eyes for a minute before she could look at them
“ You did not see the look in his eyes.” She said. “ He is hurting because he thinks I do not remember him.” She sighed again. “ I cannot do this, I cannot lie to him.”
Elladan walked over to sit next to her and placed his arm around her shoulder.
“ Brennil, you wanted to know how Glorfindel felt about you.” He said.” You wanted to be sure that he wanted to be with you willingly and not just because he thought he could not have you.” he added
“ yes I know.” She sighed.
“ this is the best way to find that out.” Elrohir added. “ Having you lose your memory gave him the chance to walk away.” He told her. “ instead he chose to see this through.” He said
“ no mater how long it takes.” Elladan pointed out.
Brennil looked up at him after he made his comment
“you were listening?” she questioned. “ you followed me.”
Elladan gave her an innocent smile
“Let us just say we were only there in case you needed our help.” Elladan said.
“what if he finds out?” She asked. “ if he learns that I am lying about my memory being gone then all this will have been for nothing.” She added
“ We are the only ones who know.” Elladan said
“ and we swear never to say a word.” Elrohir added.
Brennil sighed softly and nodded, giving in.
“ what do I do about tonight?” she said, realizing she never even asked Glorfindel where to meet him. Elrohir chuckled as she mentioned then and then excused himself from the room.
“ You are dining with him in his room.” Elrohir said, having returned after a few short minutes.
“ Perfect!” Elladan grinned.
“ how is that perfect?” Brennil asked, becoming really nervous about all this again.
“Because this will give you the perfect chance to let him think he is triggering some memories.” He said.
Brennil arched an eyebrow at his reply.
“ Brennil, my dear.” Elladan chuckled. “ Just ask him some questions you already know the answers to.” he said. “Perhaps tell him you saw an image of you and him at the training fields but do not go into detail.” he grinned
Brennil was beginning to think the older twin was purely evil. Elladan laughed when she told him this.
“ what were you wearing the day you met him?” Elrohir asked suddenly.
“ My white dress, I believe.” She replied, trying to remember.
“Then wear that one tonight.” He said.
“ you better start to get ready.” Elladan said.
Brennil nodded and went to get changed, sighing softly to herself as he had brushed out her hair. She could only hope that what they were doing did not end up making things worse.
Once she was ready, the twins had to convince her things would be fine. She took a deep breath and opened her door to leave, stopping as she almost walked right into Elrond.
“She is having dinner with Glorfindel.” Elladan told his father, pushing Brennil out the door.
“in his room, no doubt.” Elrohir added.
Elrond watched Brennil walk down the hall then turned to his twin son’s and arched an eyebrow
“What are you both up to?”
