Summary: Glorfindel finds his daughter diary after she has sailed west and reads it to the others

A/N I still only have one good eye so please forgive any mistakes I may have missed.

Elladan had approached Glorfindel just before the evening meal. Without saying a word he handed over Anira’s journal then with a simple nod he had turned and walked away. Glorfindel had watched him and could only imagine what was going through the younger elf’s mind. Taking a deep breath he went to finish what he had to do before meeting the others later that night. Anira had been on his mind a lot lately though he expected this was due to him reading her journal.

As he entered the hall, he noticed that everyone was there already. Arwen and Elrohir sitting on either side of Elladan, the older twin had his head resting on his twin’s shoulder. Taking himself a glass of wine first then taking his usual seat. Glorfindel wasted no more time and began to read Anira’s next entry

~ When Elladan and I had been just friends and he was gone on patrol, I would miss seeing him. When we first began our relationship and he had to go, it was hard to see him leave. Now, however, I hate every minute of him being gone. This time it was not for two weeks, his duty would have him away from the manor for two months. Two very long months. I cannot help but wonder if my father had not somehow arranged that. I had not planned for him to find out about the way he had, I did have ever intention to tell him of my relationship with Elladan. I had no idea that a chambermaid would run to tell him that I had not been spending my nights in my own room. Once he knew that it had not been too hard for him to find out where I was spending most night, not long after that, Elladan was told he would be on patrol for two months. Neither he nor I had been pleased about this.

The nights are the hardest for me. I had not realized until after he was gone just how comforting it is just to hear his light breathing as he slept. Now, as I still sleep in his room alone it feels empty and too quiet. I do not even have my father here to talk to either as he has also left to check on things at the borders. I have spent some time in the library with Erestor but he knows very well that he is not the elf I want to be spending my time with, though he does have some very interesting stories of my father.” ~ ~
“What stories?” Glorfindel had stopped reading and looked over at Erestor who was merely grinning back at him
“That, my old friend is between Anira and myself” he replied, earning himself a look from the golden haired elf. “ If you wish to know, you will have to ask Anira when you see her again”
Glorfindel bit back a comment but glared at Erestor before returning his attention to his daughter’s journal. He could have sworn he heard the adviser chuckle before he had begun to read.

~ waiting for Elladan to come home was hard, seeing him come home injured is worse then anything I could imagine. I knew they were all due to return first thing in the morning and the waiting had been driving me crazy. When I saw them at first it had seemed it as if it was my father that was injured, as the moved closer I saw that he was bringing Elladan back. By the time I reached the healing rooms, Elrond was already working to remove the arrows from his shoulder and chest. The poison had already done its damage by then. I barely even recall Elrohir holding me back and pulling me away so that his father could do what needed to be done.
Three days had and still he had continues to sleeps. Both my father and Elrond have given up on trying to convince me to leave the room and sleep. I had been sleep just fine in the chair next to Elladan. I was the one who was asleep when he had finally woken up. It was the soft touch of his hand in my hair that woke me. Once he had assured me he was fine and would continue to be fine he gave me a small lecture for not getting enough rest.

Once Elladan was feeling better and allowed to return to his room I was finally given the details of what had happened. I think I knew all along that it had been orcs they had encountered but hearing him confirmed just made it become even more real for me. Elrohir was in the room with us for a while as well. The thought of all of them fighting the orcs was too much and I had to step out onto the balcony. I had barely even noticed that Elladan had joined me after a while until I felt his arms around me. I did not mean to break down, he did not need that on top of everything else. He never said a word though and just stood there with me. It was too much to think about. How close I had come to losing him the same way I had lost my own mother. She is barely even a memory for me, I was young when she died but I have not forgotten how it feels to go through life without her, I did not and do not want to go through life without Elladan. I told him this and he promised it would never happen. Just as we were falling asleep later during the night he had made many promises, one of them being that not only would he stay safe from any more orcs but he would go out of his way to make sure I was safe as well.~~

The sounds of breaking glass caused Glorfindel to look up, not expecting to see Elladan standing there. Even from where he sat he could see the young elf’s heaving breathing and for once he saw something other then sorrow in his eyes, he saw the anger there as well.
“ Elladan sit down…” Elrohir said quietly only to be glared at by his twin
“ No” Elladan growled “out of every promise I ever made her, it was this one I never should have broken.” He snapped, picking up yet another glass and throwing it across the room, watching as it to shattered into tiny pieces.
“Leave it” He growled as one of the servants had hurried to clean it up.
“Do not yell at..” Elrohir started but found himself suddenly being faced by his twin
“ Then who should I yell at?” He asked, “ The ones who took here from me? That caused her so much pain that she could not sleep or eat?” He pulled away when Arwen had reached for his arm.
“We know what you are going through” Arwen spoke softly, wanting only to soothe him
“ How can you?” He asked her.” You did not lose your mate, nor have you lost an unborn child.” He added, falling to his knees as he spoke the last few words. “ I lost them both”

It was a few minutes before anyone moved, Elladan resting on some furs with his head in his brother’s lap. Glorfindel looked over to Elrond to see him talking quietly to Celebrian who had become upset as she could only sit and watch her oldest son finally break down.
“ Glorfindel” Erestor’s voice broke the silence among them.” Continue” he urged him quietly.

~ Elladan was still asleep when I hade awaken. He looked so peaceful that I could not bring myself to disturb him that I merely watched him quietly. I know the promise he made the night before is not one I can expect him to keep. It would not be fair to him. Should anything ever happen to me I do not want him to think it was his fault. Bad things happen no matter how much we wish they never did. I will hold him to one promise. The one where he promised that no matter else, he would love me forever and always be at my side when it mattered the most. I do not believe this is too much of a promise to keep and one that I love the sound of the most. When he will wake up I will tell him which promise he is to keep. Though I expect some argument from him, he is as stubborn as any ellon I have ever met. It seems to run is his family but I will not be the one to say this to Elrond. I will leave that duty to Erestor, he seems to enjoy telling him as often as he could. Most of us would think something was wrong of Erestor did not call Elrond stubborn at least two times a week.

Elladan mentioned spending some time alone somewhere for a few days. I think this would be a good idea. It has been over two months since we have had any time alone and the lonely night in the healing room as he slept do not count. There was always someone coming in to check on him or ask if I wanted something. I may have not wanted to leave his side but I have to admit that chair was not comfortable after a while. The thought of spending a few nights alone with Elladan is very appealing and I find myself looking forward more with each passing minute. I do not know when we will be able to do this, I can only hope it is soon.~

Closing the journal slowly, Glorfindel looked over at Elladan to see that he had fallen asleep against his twin. Elrohir said nothing to no one as he managed to wake his twin up and lead him silently out of the room. Glorfindel could not help but wonder just how many sleepless nights Elladan had had since Anira had left.
“ It is a start” Erestor commented after the twins were gone
“ He should not have to suffer alone” Arwen added quietly” yet he will not let anyone in, not even Elrohir.”
Elrond sat quietly with Celebrian resting against him. He had his arm around her and watched as she had rested her head gently against his shoulder
“ His emotions will get the better of him sooner or later” Elrond said “ though I suspect he will fight it every step of the way”
Celebrian agreed with her husband but it was clear to everyone in the room just how worried she was for her oldest son.
“ He does not wish to let his feeling go” Elrond added.” He is still at the point that if he let’s go of his feelings then he is letting go of her and that was something he promised he would never do.”
Arwen lowered her head briefly before looking towards her parents
“then do something to help” she told them” If not then we will lose him as well” she comment before she got up and left the room.

Elrohir had helped his twin make it to the room and guided him over to the bed. After what had happened earlier, he was now even more concerned for his twin. He went and took a sit by the bedroom window, a place where he had spent of a lot of time at lately. Silently watching over his twin.
“ You do not sleep” He said after a while, looking outside but could feel Elladan watching
“ It is rare that I do” Elladan replied quietly
“Do you even try?” Elrohir asked, finally turning his head
“ Every night” The older twin told him. He watched as Elrohir got up and poured some water, adding some herbs.
“ Drink this, it will help you sleep” Elrohir said, sitting on the floor beside the bed. Elladan sighed quietly, he knew better then anyone that his twin was relentless and would not give up Until Elladan gave in. After some hesitation, Elladan slowly drank the water.
“It is for the bed Elladan” He said, watching as his brother closed his eyes slowly” You need to rest”
Shaking his head, Elladan opened his eyes briefly to look at Elrohir to see him watching him closely . Closing his eyes again and drifting off to sleep as he whispered one last comment.
“What I need is Anira”
