Chapter 5
“Because the dark god that created us was…Sauron…”
Glorfindel felt as if all of the air had escaped from his lungs. He just couldn’t seem to breathe right…
‘I just can’t be true!’
“I…I…I don’t…know if…I’m…evil or not…but…but…” Erestor tried to continue but his tears seemed to have drowned out his voice.
Elrond was lost in thought from this new revelation. He just couldn’t wrap his mind around that the “elf” that saved his ions was the same one that was essentially a very pretty orc!!
When he had first seen this shy creature, he had thought he was orphaned from an orc attack. He was so timid and shy…so afraid of everyone and everything…and he wasn’t even past his majority yet!
Elrond remembered feeling pity for the boy…not to mention immense gratitude. He was practically emaciated. He felt sure if given enough time, the boy would eventually come out of his shell, but he needed a safe place to do so. And, thus, he had welcomed him into his home. He had watched him grow and come into his own.
He just couldn’t imagine his good friend and trusted advisor being anything evil like Sauron’s other creations!
He shook himself from his reverie as Erestor tried to speak again.
“In all truth…I had never even heard of the concept of evil until I came here. All I knew was…survive or die…weak or strong.” He began to speak in a rush, “I don’t really think I am evil but I just don’t know! Everything is so odd here and…and…”
He looked up and paused, “Glorfindel…are you alright?”
THUNK!
“Oh my!!”

Glorfindel came to find his head in Erestor’s lap. Erestor ran his hand through Glorfindel’s hair soothingly as he spoke quietly with Elrond. At first, all he knew was Erestor’s hand. It took a moment for the previous events to return to his mind.
“I just don’t know what I am…one is not evil until they are told thus by someone else. On both sides of a battle, the soldiers call the other evil…but they can’t both be right can they? Neither side sees themselves as evil…so tell me Elrond, am I evil? I won’t know until I’m told… After all, to farmers, wolves are evil and they are not much different from I…
“I have searched and searched my heart but I just don’t know what evil is supposed to look like or feel like…I read and read but every tomb had a different answer.
“So, please my Lord! Tell me if I am evil! If only for saving your sons!! I cannot continue to live not knowing!!!”
Erestor’s plea border lined desperate in its tone, and it broke Glorfindel’s heart.
Elrond sighed, “I do not sense evil in your heart Erestor but I know nothing of the Pyn mom…”
“Then we will go to the wastelands…”
Both of the elves jumped at Glorfindel’s voice. Neither had known he was awake.
Elrond looked at him, “What do you mean, my friend?”
Glorfindel sat up…which turned out to be a bad idea as Erestor’s fingers were still in his hair and his raising caused them to become quite tangled…
Needless to say, it was not a pleasant experience for either of them.
When they had finally detached themselves, Glorfindel continued.
“We can’t know if Erestor is from an evil race until we see more of them. You said yourself Erestor that they were uncontrollable by Sauron…maybe they did not become infested with the seed of evil as the orcs had…”
“Oh no! That is a bad, bad idea! You do not know the Pyn mom! Evil or not, they are vicious and would tear any who came upon them to shreds!!” Panic entered Erestor’s voice.
“I believe it is a good idea,” interjected Elrond. “If they are evil they must be dealt with…”
Elrond refused to look Erestor in the eye at that part.
“…and if not, they are kin in a way. They deserve our help.”
Erestor tried to protest but Elrond silenced him with a raise of his eyebrow.
“We leave in a full lunar cycle. I shall send word to both Lothlorien and Mirkwood to see if they will join us.”
“Very well then, it is decided!” chirped Glorfindel, throwing an arm around Erestor’s shoulders. “Now that that is decided, I am famished. Let us go hence forth and raid the kitchens!”
Glorfindel then proceeded to drag Erestor with him; while Elrond left muttering something about going back to bed and crazy balrog slayers.
Erestor was mute in his shock. This was definitely not how he expected this to go!!
