A loud and aching scream went through the building. Heads turned around to look into the one direction possible. Evil grins spread over some faces. Someone was terribly suffering. And some were enjoying this.

One full day has passed since Viggo had raped Dom. After Viggo had left some men came and spilled more blood on the floor. Dom could smell it. Everywhere. The lust to lick his lips had become unbearable. But he had been able to control himself. He had thought about Billy. He surely had gone to the bar and they were preparing for the battle. They had received the hidden code and had given Billy the last piece of his sword. Dom had hoped this so strongly that it had become reality to him.

This had changed abruptly when Dom’s strength to fight his vampire side had decreased more and more. Though his physical strength had been growing every second. He had been leaning back and forward stretching the chains to a maximum. Until with one sudden movement Dom had been able to free himself ripping the chain bases out of the ceiling. That was when the scream escaped his mouth.

Dom immediately took the dagger out of his chest and wiped away the blood from his lips. He sighed relieved not to feel the hurting pain anymore. He then turned to his chained shanks as far as the chains would allow him, grabbed the iron rings and pulled. Free at last. Well, almost.

He looked around; he stood in a little bloody lake. He thought about opening the window, or at least try to open it, but then, he didn’t know whether it was night or day. It could be dangerous for him. So he searched for a spot in the room that wasn’t that much covered with the red fluid and crouched on the floor.

Only one thought kept him from going to his knees and dipping his tongue thirstily into the sweet smelling red sauce. Billy. He could not let him down. If he gave up now Viggo would use him to turn Billy into a vampire, a slave. He would win. Dom would never allow that to happen. If Viggo won Dom would lose Billy forever. He had to think about the last sentences he said to Billy. “I like you” Dom had said. Bloody Hell. That was so not right! Since the day he had looked into those strongly green eyes he was completely devoted to him. But what chances were there? A vampire and a mortal man. That would never work.

Suddenly keys rattled outside and threw Dom out of his thoughts. The door opened and Orlando stepped inside. The light went on again and blinded Dom’s eyes.

“Dominic, are you alright?”, Orlando asked and walked slowly towards Dom.

Dom tried to open his eyes again, he blinked several times. Everything was in a blur. He couldn’t focus Orlando’s face who was standing in front of him now. He squatted and put his hands on Dom’s shoulder.

”Can you hear me, Dominic? Nod if you can’t talk.”

Dom nodded.

“OK, listen to me now. Viggo won’t wait any longer. He’s screaming around, shouting and killing his own servants out of pure rage. He told me to send a message to Elijah and the rest. Billy has only 24 hours time to get here. I think Viggo found out about the code. I don’t know how…”

“Oh yes, you do.”, Dom interrupted him suddenly with a rough voice. “You told him, didn’t you? It was you! You’ve betrayed us!”

He jumped up and threw himself at a surprised and shocked Orlando.

“’S good that you’re not a vampire, so I can kill you! LIAR!”

“Dominic…stop…I didn’t…”

Orlando struggled to speak. Dom had wrapped both hands around his throat and took away his breath. Orlando now was able to look Dom straight into his eyes – they were red. Was it already too late?

“Dom…your eyes…”

Dominic startled and finally let go of Orlando. He backed away touching the wall and slid down to the ground.

“What are they doing with me?”, he asked more to himself than to the other man.

“Not they, you. You’ve never been through that before because you were always avoiding blood, you left Viggo right after he bit you, but now that’s not possible anymore. You’re turning into a real vampire.”, Orlando said, breathing heavily. “Can I talk to you now? I have a plan.”

“I’m sorry, Orlando. You never would betray us…” Dom shook his head slowly in disbelief.

Orlando stood up blood dropping down from his suit.

“I’ve got something for you.” Orlando put out an injection. “This contains something like antibodies. If I inject you with this then for the next 24 hours you will be no vampire. This means, no sunlight can hurt you and your blood lust will vanish. But you will be mortal. You can be wounded and can die. It’s now around 7 am, so at 7 am on the next day you will become a vampire again, you hear me? I know that Viggo wants to use you for the deal he’s going to make with Billy, I don’t know yet what deal it is but I hope I’ll find out in time.”

“Ok, let’s do that.”, Dom answered immediately.

“There’s only one thing.” Orlando looked worried.

“What is it?”

“It will be a painful transformation into a human being. It will take at least one hour until the whole process will be finished. You sure you wanna do that?”

“I have no choice, do I?”, Dom asked back and stretched out his left arm.

But Orlando put the injection to the left side of Dom’s neck and pricked it there.

“I will leave you now. Good luck, mate.”

Orlando embraced him one last time, turned his back on Dom and closed the great door shut behind him. Dom’s screaming went on.

~***~

Billy hadn’t been able to sleep. Again. He could not stop thinking of Dom, worrying about him. The last 24 hours had been very exciting and very informative. Elijah had shown him around their headquarters which lay several floors under the bar. Many rooms were connected by long bluish corridors and every single one was packed with computers or armor and weapons. There were also training rooms and even a room where only a little glass box stood on a high base.

Bean, a great guy with dark blonde hair, told him about the information they’ve been collecting through out the years of searching and spying on Viggo. Karl, another tall man with black hair, showed him all the technology stuff, little extras that were put in every robe and piece of cloth they wore. Elijah and Sean, however, told him the most important things. The plan for how they would save Dom and eventually kill Viggo. Well, in fact how Billy would kill Viggo.

Billy looked at the clock near the bed. 7 am. Well, it was time to get up anyway. He shoved the white bed sheets aside, stood up and wanted to go to the kitchen. But landed in front of a blue wall. He startled at first, then he remembered. Right, he was at the headquarters, Elijah had shown him this room where he could try to sleep.

So instead Billy got dressed in his jeans and shirt and went to the main computer room where they were about to meet.

“Hey, Billy! Already up?”, he was greeted there by Elijah. He smiled at Billy but then got a worried face seeing Billy’s exhausted eyes. “Did you sleep at all?”

“Well, not really. Ah’ve tried though. But, forget it, when are we going to take off?”

“Not so fast. I’ve already explained the plan to you so we have time. I still got to give you somethin’ you know!”

Elijah took Billy aside and led him to the room with the glass box. Billy now could see that the box was not empty. A little red jewel lay in it shimmering and glittering.

“Is this…”, Billy wanted to ask but couldn’t. He was so amazed by the sight of the last piece of his sword that the world around seemed not to exist any more. Oh yes, he knew that the hilt of the sword was incomplete. One piece was missing.

“Yes. It’s Viggo’s blood.”, Elijah answered his unfinished question. Billy looked up in surprise.

“Viggo’s Blood? I thought it was just a jewel? And I also thought that he was immortal?”

“Well, did you think he has always been a vampire? This blood, mate, is nearly 170 years old! Some of your ancestors stabbed him in time before he could become a vampire. It has been passed from generation to generation. There was a time when it was gone, stolen, but we were able to get it back.”

In front of Elijah a little board with numbers and strange symbols appeared. He tipped in a code and the glass box vanished. Elijah didn’t dare to move.

“Ok, go on, I won’t touch that thing again. Last time it happened it created a shock wave and blew me away.”

“But how were you then able to put it in there?”

“I didn’t. It was your father.”

Billy’s eyes widened.

“But no time now. Put it into your sword now. But just let me first…” With that Elijah took several steps back. “OK, you can do it now!”

Billy’s gaze was fixed at the sparkling jewel not really knowing what to do. But then his curiosity won and he touched it. Nothing happened. He picked it up. Still nothing happened. He put it in the hilt of his sword. It made a ‘click’. And again nothing happened.

“Lij, I think you can come back. Everything’s just…”

Not fine. The sword began to glow taking hold of Billy now. Billy’s hand went crazy swinging here and there until it tried to stab himself.

“Stop it, Billy!”, Elijah shouted scared.

“I can’t! It’s controlling me!”

“Then do something so it will listen to you!”

Billy tried to concentrate hard. But he only kept thinking of Dom. He heard him screaming suddenly.

“Dom! He’s in danger! I have to help him!”

Billy stretched out his right arm blade pointing to the ceiling.

“And you will help me!”, he ordered.

And the glowing stopped. Elijah breathed out relieved. Billy put the sword back into its place and turned around to look at Elijah.

They returned to the headquarters quickly to start discussing details of the plan and making up some kind of plan B.

“Guys, you won’t believe what just happened!”, Elijah started but then recognized the silence and the worried looking faces. “What? Something happened?”

Bean said nothing but stepped aside and the computer monitor came into view. A message box was opened.

24 hours time limit. Otherwise Dom’s going to die. Orlando.
