Chapter 6
(AN) Reminder I do not own anything you see here. Well the twins maybe all belongs to Mr. Tolkien and his estate. Anywaywithwith the story
Haldir was standing in front of his mirror braiding his long silver-blond hair, when he heard someone burst through his front door. He knew that it was one of his brothers, because no one else would dare inter his talan with out knocking first. He looked up just Orophin bounced into the room and flopped on his over sized bed.
“Fancy seeing you here. I thought that we were to meet at the twin’s talan?” Haldir asked walking over and swinging Orophin’s feet off his clean silken bed coverings and dropping them on the floor.
“Hal my boots are clean I just spent half an hour cleaning them.” Orophin snapped with a frown on his handsome face.
“Yes but my covers are the palest of blue. It wouldn’t take much to ruin them.” Haldir turned back to the mirror, and finished up the braiding of his hair.
“You know some times you act just like mother!” Orophin replied with a wide grin.
A sad smile crossed Haldir’s face. “Yes well one of us has to, Valar knows, the two of you act as if you haven’t a care in the world. Why do you think you are always going to the seamstress, for **new** uniforms?”
“Yeah well maybe I need a maiden, to take care of all that for me.” At that Haldir turned around, and looked into his brothers eyes. He had never heard Orophin say such a thing, never in all of his long life. He couldn’t help but to think of his own life, and the maiden who had torn his whole world apart with only a shy smile. “Orophin kno know they don’t have any ties here to Lothlórien.” Haldir said with a heavy sigh.
“ I know they will be going to Mirkwood in a few days with Thranduil. But I have until then to convince her to came back.”
“Speaking of Thranduil we leave for the boarder at dawn. He will be here by midday tomorrow.”
“Can’t you send some one else to meet him?” Orophin growled.
“The lady had made her decision Phin.” Haldir held out his hand to help him up. “Come our lady’s await.”
Orophin knew that Haldir was right but that did not stop him from hopeing that, he could some how stop the twins from leaving the safety of the golden woods. Orophin knew all too well the dangers that lay between Lórien and Mirkwood. And even inside Mirkwood it’s self. He shivered at the thought of the giant spiders that inhabit those woods.
Flashback
Orophin rained in his horse beside his brothers. He hated the ride through Mirkwood. It would be getting dark soon but they needed to get as far as they possibly could this day. Lord Celeborn was waiting on the replied from his massage to King Thranduil.
He looked to his youngest brother. He could feel the excitement flowing off Rumil in waves. This was his first trip outside the boarders of Lórien. Orophin had been their only once before. No more than a few hundred years before. Before the Mirkwood Queen had been brutally slain in an Orc attack.
He had liked the Mirkwood royals. They seemed like they were a perfect pair. At the time she had been expecting their first child. Later Haldir had told him that, that child had been born a healthy young princeling. They had named him Raduil. There had been two more sense then. Another prince called Legolas, and a maiden by the name of Savanna. She w onl only be about 45 now. He and Rúmil were betting on who she would look like Thranduil, or his queen.
They had traveled deep into the forest of Mirkwood, before they stopped for the night. Haldir ordered a bonfire lit to keep the spiders at bay. And several wardens to keep watch. He set up three shifts, of four wardens in each to keep the watch. Everything was going smoothly until just before the daybreak. Out of nowhere three of the largest spiders he had ever seen dropped out of know where.
When the last spider was slain, Haldir had set Orophin and Rúmil to see to the wounded. Most were only miner scratches but in the end they lost two good ward Oro Orophin had seen everyone but Valmir. He looked around him franticly trying to find his closest friend and lover.
“Valmir where are you!” He called out, but he didn’t answer him.
“Valmir! He shouted louder as he begin running around the battle sight. His heart was beating so hard and fast, all he could hear was his own blood roaring in his ears. He felt a hand on his shoulder and turned around hoping agent’s hope that it was he, but that was not to be.
“Come brother I have found Valmir.” Haldir said sadly.
“Where is he? Is he well?” Orophin demanded grabbing Haldir’s shoulders.
“You must hurry, for her is badly wounded he hasn’t much time left.”
Orophin followed his brother in total shock. ‘Valmir was a one of the best warden, that he had ever seen. How could this be? Could his lover really be dieing?’
The first sight of Valmir tore the bleeding heart out of Orophin’s chest. He dropped to his knees, pulling Valmir into his arms.
“Val!” Orophin gasped pulling him closer. To kiss his beloved’s lips.
“Phin I love you.” Valmir said looking up into his pain felled eyes.
“Val please don’t leave me!” Orophin cried out. Placing a soft kiss on his lips.
“I’m Sorry my love.” Valmir said with his last breath. Closing his deep green eyes for the last time.
Orophin watched as Val took his last breath. Taking his heart and a huge part of his soul with him. Haldir had ordered them to be left in piece for a moment. While they bound the body of the other fallen warrior. When at last they came for Valmir, Orophin would not let him go.
Shaking Valmir’s shoulders, as if trying to wake him up from a long mid-summer’s nap. “Val please open your eyes and talk to me!” Orophin felt hands on his back and shook them off. “Val please… I love you.”
“Phin come we have to get going. Let us see to his binding.” Rúmil said softly. Pulling Orophin away from his fallen love.
Flashback ends
Orophin… Orophin aou wou well brother? Should I take you to the healers?”
Orophin shook his head and smiled sadly.
“Nay… I was thinking of the first time we took Rúmil to Mirkwood.”
“Come brother, this night is for making happier memories.” Haldir said as he slapped him on the back. Orophin brought his hand up and knocked softly on the front door of the twin’s talan. Doing his best to shake the unhappy memories from his foggy mind.
