Part V. Theft

Haldir watched the display silently from the still open doorway, scowling darkly at the two figures cuddled close on the large bed. Disgusted, Haldir turned quickly about to leave when something gleaming softly in the dark caught his eye. He honed in on it, his mood blackening by the second.

There lay the blue stone glimmering in the moonlight, innocently winking at him from it’s perch against the pale chest of the advisor. Haldir entered the room silently and walked up to the bed, looking down at the entwined lovers. He gazed at Legolas longingly. He seemed so content and happy. That only fueled Haldir’s anger at Erestor even more. The advisor had taken Legolas from him. It was /his/ bed Legolas should be laying in right now. It was /his/ arms the prince should be seeking.

He glared down at the advisor, studying him appraisingly. He had to admit one thing, Legolas’ tastes certainly hadn’t diminished or changed at least. For the advisor hid a truly beautiful body beneath his stuffy robes of office. It was lean and muscled, quite surprisingly. Haldir would have assumed the advisor’s body would have been soft from lack of warrior’s training. But seeing as Erestor was so old, he had obviously not always been a councilor. That was the body of a warrior, despite one long out of practice. The muscles had indeed softened over the years, but not disappeared, giving the advisor the look of both softness and steel. Quite a combination that the advisor had obviously used well to ensnare the prince’s heart. At that thought Haldir’s anger returned in full force. He gazed at the stone pendent. He reached out and caressed the smooth surface, providing so little pressure that it’s barer could not feel it.

In a moment of rage Haldir suddenly clasped a fist around the stone, and without thinking pulled hard. The delicate chsnapsnapped from the pale neck, instantly awakening Erestor. Erestor gazed in shock at the shadowed figure looming above him. He unconsciously pulled Legolas to him closely, a gesture both protective and possessive. He couldn’t make out his visitor’s identity, for his vision was still hazy from sleep. Before he could blink, the figure disappeared into the darkness, fleeing the scene.

Erestor let out a sigh of relief, relaxing his grip on Legolas, who was stirring, sensing the tension in the room. His hand instantly went to his neck where the blue stone should have sat, but cried out in alarm when he realized it was gone. The symbol of Legolas’ love for him had been cruelly stolen from him, and Erestor felt tears sting the back of his eyes. He cuddled the still sleeping form of the prince tightly against him, as though fearing he, too, would disappear should he let go.

Notes: Another chapter that is way too short. I think this was the shortest one yet. Argh. I’ll try to make the next one longer. Blame the muse. It’s all her fault. She’s the cruel one, not I. Plus I’m hitting a bit of a block at the moment. Not sure what to do now. ;_; I'll try to get the next chapter up in the next few days, if all goes well.

Min: Yep, there is sometimes a benefit to vacations. XD I'm sure we'd all like to give Hal a hand or two... maybe even more than just hands..hmm... =9 Yes, and I don't see elves as being easily sloshed. Whatever the twins gave him must have been pretty potent stuff. ^_^ Tirion is one of my favorites also. That will definitely make it into the story somewhere. And your votes are worth a lot!

bernsteinnixe: I like Drunk!Legolas too. Easier to take advantage. ;) 5 minutes? sorry even I'm not THAT fast. =s

friendly: Obviously no, I didn't realize that. And it was Calthoniel. =P It had no meaning I wasn't comparing it to other names I found, I was just sticking elvish words together.

Crookis: Thanks for the votes. ^_^

sivan: Here's some more. =)

HHS: Yes, unfortunately he did. Unrequited love is a painful thing.

Talia: Oh, Legolas has his ways of making it up later on. As for Hal, I have a few ideas of what to do with him. ;) Yes, well, it'll probably be the last lighthearted chapter for a bit, as you can tell.

narcolinde: Haldir let them be? But then there would be no story! =) I like that name too. It's pretty.
