Part 5

Part 5…

Glorfindel shifted in the saddle and rolled his shoulders in an agitated gesture at the eerie feeling of being watched. Since they had started out on their journey that morning he had had the feeling of being watch, and as odd or crazy as it may sound he was positive it was Erestor who was watching him, which made no sense. Erestor had never watched him before but over the last three days he had felt that piercing dark gaze directed at him on several occasion and was at a loss as how to explain it.

Twisting to look behind him Glorfindel quickly located the advisor and wat int in the least bit surprised to find him gazing off into the surrounding forest. He knew, deep down, he knew that Erestor had been watching him. It was a gut feeling, on that had never let him down yet, and although Glorfindel had never caught him he was convinced that the dark haired elf was watching him, and that small assurance was enough to keep the hope in his heart alive. He would have his hearts desire; he just needed to remain patient. And after waiting so long for Erestor to return his affections he was rather good at being patient.

Erestor was grouchy; it was the only word to describe his rotten mood. Not only had he been constantly distracted by the memories of his dream, which had tormenting him repeatedly for the past two nights, but he just couldn’t seem to stop himself from watching Glorfindel. Added to this was Elronds sudden inspiration to journey to Lothlórien and his insistence that Erestor needed to accompany him, if only to ‘have some time to relax and enjoy life’. Erestor snorted, drawing an inquiring look from the guard at his right. Raising an eyebrow he waited until the guard focused his gaze elsewhere before directing his eyes to their newest pastime of watching Glorfindel.

“Are you not enjoying yourself Erestor?”

Wrenching his eyes away from the blonde warriors’ broad back he turned to his left and smiled humorously. “Oh utterly, I can barely contain myself.”

Elrond sighed at the dry and sarcastic tone. “I thought you would enjoy getting away from your office.”

“I happen to like staying in my office.”

“Erestor…”

“Elrond please, we both know I had no desire to accompany you on this journey. I am only here because you ordered me to be.”

“Once we get to Lothlórien you can lock yourself away in Celeborn library for the entirety of our stay if that is your wish. And then you can go back to locking yourself away in your own study once we return home.”

“Provided the Twins don’t demolish the place in our absence.”

“They are quite capable of managing Imladris while we are away.”

Silence was his only response and Elrond briefly closed his eyes. After a few moments he opened them and turned once more to address Erestor.

“My friend, please, at least try to enjoy yourself while we are away. Take some time away from the books and scrolls, if not for your own sake then for mine?”

A sigh. “Very Elr Elrond, I will try.”

Elrond rested a slender hand on Erestors black clad shoulder and smiled in silent thanks.
