Chapter 6.
With each new day Nessa grew even more restless. Each night seemed
darker then the one before. Sleep no longer came easily for her.
They had rode hard towards Gondor, pushing themselves and their
horses
to near exhaustion. Nessa had hoped that once they were inside,
passed
the front gates of Minas Tirith that they would once again be able to
rest.
" Welcome Child," Turning towards the deep voice she was surprised to
find Gandalf standing before her " I am pleased to see your safe
arrival."
Nessa felt as if he had not expected a reply therefore none had been
given. Instead she slowly turned and looked around her. The faces of
the people now before her reminded her how Rohan had been just before
she had left. Lifeless, void of all emotion other then fear.
" Is this to be our fate?" She could not help but ask. " A life
without joy, a forever existing darkness over our heads and in our
hearts."
A soft sigh escaped her as she felt his hand on her shoulder, a
gentle
squeeze meant to comfort.
" Hold tight to your hope, child" His voice lower the before. Nessa
found it soothing. " Many parts have yet to be played."
He was gone before she could ask him what that meant. She had meant
to
ask him of Eomer as well but feared his answer.
It had not taken long for the news of Denethor death to spread. Each
version told different form the others. Some believed it was the
grief
for Boromir that had turned his mind to darkness. Others say it was
guilt that had overtaken him, that in the end he had saw his mistakes
and could not face them.
Closing her eyes she wished to drown out he noise around her. The
fighting, the screaming, even death would no longer be kept quiet.
Any hope she may have had diminished with each passing minute.
It was the next sound that brought her to her feet. In the distance
the faint sound of an all to familiar call could be heard. Never
again would she allow doubt to fill her heart nor would she question
the timing of the Rohirrim.
With both pride and fear in her heart she forced herself to watch as
they charged forward, fighting their way towards the white city. It
came as no surprise to her when they had turned and reformed the
line.
Stood their ground as they prepared to face theeat eat now before
them. Quickly she searched for Eomer but could not see him.
Turning away she quickly made her way to where her own horse had been
kept. She would no longer sit hidden in the shadows waiting for
whatever fate had in store for her.
It was the sight of the hobbit that stopped her from going any
further. Her first thought was that it was Pippin but upon a closer
look she realized it was indeed another.
" She is hurt, to the death maybe, but I deem she yet lives."
His words had held Nessa's attention. Searching for the one the
stranger was speaking of She gasped when her eyes found first King
Theoden then Eowyn.
" Where is Eomer?" Nessa stood by her friends side. Her eyes glancing
towards the hobbit briefly before returning to watch Eowyn.
"He rode back into battle." Was his only reply. His voice held little
hope.
Looking out over the fields in hope to catch a glimpse of Eomer had
proved useless. Her eyes feel to where her horse stood waiting.
"Wait" A small touch on her arm just as she had taken a single step
forward. " I know of who you are, Lady Eowyn often spoke of her
friendship to you." Nessa once again looked towards Eowyn "Will you
not stay at her side?"
Before Nessa could reply an eerie silence fell across the lands.
Everyone and everything seem to suddenly stop.
Looking into the distance she felt as if the air had been taken from
her lungs. Surely her eyes deceived for what she saw could not be at
all possible…..
