Chapter 50
Elijah ran down the hall of the hospital as if his life depended on it. He stopped outside the room to catch his breath, and stepped inside. I was on the bed asleep, Dom at my side, but he quickly walked over to Elijah when he saw him.
"How is she?
"She's gone into labor. The doctor gave her a sedative, so that you could make it here in time."
Elijah walked over to me and took my hand. "She's early." He whispered.
"Not enough that she or the baby will be in danger the doctor said." Dom reassured him.
I opened my eyes and smiled at Elijah. "Hi."
"Hi Honey, how are we feeling?"
"I'm alright. I'm ready to do this." I smiled, and tried to hide the grimace as another contraction rippled across my belly.
The doctor came in and checked on me. "Well...we're progressing nicely." He looked to Dom, "I'm going to have to ask you to wait outside son."
"No! Please let him stay." I asked. The doctor nodded and let Dom return, who walked over to the bed and took my hand. Elijah had the other.
The doctor leaned over, "Alright, you're going to have to push for me Sarah."
I was sweating, and didn't want to push. All I wanted to do was go to sleep...and suddenly Elijah's voice was grating on my ears. "C'mon Sarah" he kept saying.
"Elijah if you don't shut up right now I'm going to castrate you with a butter knife!" I yelled between pushes.
Dom laughed and I squeezed his hand harder.
"One more Mrs. Wood and you're all done." I heard the doctor say. I shook my head no. I was so tired, just let me sleep. I pushed again, and suddenly felt the pressure go away. I heard a tiny scream and smiled softly. "Congratulations, it’s a girl."
"See? I told you so." I smiled at Dom.
