Summary: The love of a child is unconditional.
A/N: This story follows “House and Home~Innocence”. A three year old elfling is approximately equal to a three year old human according to a few different sources.
Erestor poured himself a large portion of strong whiskey before edging around his desk to sit in his chair. It was dark, dinner was over, and Glorfindel was entertaining the elflings for a little while before it was time for bed. Erestor watched with half an eye as he went over the finance charts for a final time before he handed them in the next day.
He was engrossed in changing a mathematical mistake when his charts were suddenly drenched with a strong spray of liquid from the other side of the desk. He looked up, eyes startled at the gagging and choking elfling that still held the glass of Erestor’s forgotten whiskey in his hand.
Erestor rushed to the three year old and took the glass before it could drop and break. He picked up his youngest child, and only son Glaurion and took him into the kitchen. He gave the elfling several swallows of warm milk to help chase the burning whiskey down and to wash out his mouth. Erestor saw Glorfindel peek in the doorway a few times to make sure everything was fine before returning to the other children.
The entire time, tears ran down Glaurion’s stricken face while Erestor berated himself for leaving something like that out for the children to get into. They often picked up the glasses of their parents to drink out of, and Erestor had forgotten that fact.
When the worst of little Glaurion’s coughing and heaving had past, Erestor sat in the kitchen with his elfling on his lap while he rubbed the little back. Glaurion looked up at Erestor with eyes filled with tears, and Erestor leaned down to place a kiss of the child’s forehead.
“I saved you, Ada,” said the little, quivering voice of the elfling.
Erestor wrinkled his brow in thought and brushed the golden ringlets away from Glaurion’s face. “What did you save me from, love?”
“The poison!” exclaimed Glaurion, his voice hoarse from the scorching whiskey and constant coughing. Tears flowed even more as he said, “I’m glad that I took the poison instead of you. I never want you to get hurt, even if I have to get hurt instead. I love you, Ada.”
“Oh, sweetling! It wasn’t poison, you’ll be fine.” Tears filled Erestor’s eyes at the words of his child. The love of a child was unconditional. “I love you, too,” whispered Erestor as hugged his elfling close.
