Summary: Orophin's first visit to Imladris is fairly uneventful and boring until he stumbles upon a certain black haired advisor in the library. Now his goal is to win Erestor's heart before he heads home again.

Erestor leaned against the tree, his legs crossed before him at the ankles and Orophin at his side, leaning against the same tree and sitting so close their shoulders touched. The rest had been Orophin’s idea; the seating arrangement had been Erestor’s. Left up to Orophin, he would be seated in his lap.

They sat in silence for a long time. Every so often, Erestor looked over when he felt as though he was being stared at, just in time to see Orophin quickly look away and pretend to be looking at the sky.

“That one there… it looks like a rabbit.”

“That one what?”

“That cloud.”

“A rabbit?”

“Yes. Do you not see it? Right there.”

Erestor looked in the direction that Orophin pointed and strained to see. But try as he might, he only saw clouds void of rabbits.

“I do not see it.”

“How can you miss it?”

“I am sorry, Orophin.”

“Have you never just watched the clouds float by and imagine what they look like?”

“No. I am always too busy. And I fear my imagination is not good enough for that task, anyway.”

“Oh, come now! Everyone has enough imagination in them to picture things in the clouds.”

“I am rather boring then, I suppose.”

“Nonsense. Give it a try.” He quickly scanned the sky and picked out a plump, oddly shaped cloud. Pointing, he asked, “There. What does that one look like?”

“It looks like a rain cloud.”

“No, Erestor! Use your imagination! Look again, and tell me what you see.”

Erestor stared for a moment. “Well, I guess it could be a bear.”

“Not bad! I can even see her cubs!”

“You seem to be better at this than I am.”

“You just need practice. Try another. How about that one? First thing to come to your mind, what is it?”

“Well… it looks like a book.”

“A book?”

“Yes. I giant book. Although obviously it does not have a title.”

“A giant book. Alright. How about that one drifting in behind it?”

“That one looks like… it looks like a set of fallen stairs.”

“Better. See? You are a natural at this!”

“Hardly!”

Erestor had failed to notice that Orophin was now on his knees, sitting back on his feet, and very much closer to him. He continued to watch the clouds, enjoying his new found talent.

“Any more?”

“Yes. That one over there. It looks like a cat getting ready to pounce on a rat.”

“Nice. I can see that. But the rat does not look too concerned. I wonder why.”

“Maybe he has outsmarted that cat before.”

“Possible. Or maybe because he’s standing so close to that bear!”

“I would be more concerned by the bear!”

“But cats are much faster.”

“That is true. And… much… sneakier.”

His eyes rested on Orophin, only now noticing his closeness. He smiled down at the dark haired elf and decided to take his chance, now that his attention was moved. Reaching out his hand, he touched Erestor’s cheek. Closing his eyes, Erestor leaned into the touch ever so slightly, not really thinking of what he was doing.

In the next instant, his eyes opened wide as he felt his mouth claimed by the silver haired warrior kneeling over him. Startled, he pushed back into the tree, but Orophin pushed back with him, unwilling to break the kiss. Erestor relaxed only slightly, noticing the tenderness in the kiss and feeling the amazing softness of Orophin’s lips against his own. He noticed those soft lips also tasted of apples, and a moan escaped him before he could stop it. Feeling Orophin smile into the kiss and trying to deepen it, Erestor snapped himself back to reality.

Placing his hands on Orophin’s shoulders, he pushed, holding nothing back. The tall Silvan fell backwards onto his feet before losing his balance and toppling into the grass with a laugh. Erestor felt a slight anger welling in him and huffed as he pulled himself off the grass and onto his feet again.

Orophin looked up and saw the fire in his eyes as he brushed grass and dirt from his robes. “I meant nothing, Erestor, I only wished to…”

Erestor cut him off with an exasperated huff before turning on his heels and storming away, his lose for words silencing his sharp tongue for the first time. Orophin frowned as he finished the sentence to himself, “…taste you.”

Licking his lips, he swore he could taste the subtle flavor of cloves and spice.

“Haldir, wait for me!”

Haldir stopped and looked back, smiling as he waited for Glorfindel to catch up. “Hello, my friend!”

“I have had almost no time to speak with you, and I wish to know how things are in Lothlorien.”

“Well, for the time being.”

“I am glad to hear of it. How has your visit been thus far?”

“Productive, and very busy. But it always is.”

“Ah, yes. I understand your brother has been very busy as well.”

“Yes, he is interested in someone, which does not surprise me. I wish he would find other things to do besides trying to woo elves.”

“He seems to be making progress.”

“With Erestor?”

“Yes. I saw them walking earlier, and Erestor looked very content to be by his side.”

“Really? I did not expect that.”

“Nor did I. Lindir told me of his little quest. And I must say I am rooting for your brother.”

“And why is that? I have told you how he can be.”

“Yes, I know. But whatever it takes to get Erestor’s mind off of me, I am going to root for it.”

“You are aware of his interest in you?”

“Of course, how could I not be. You should see him! Haldir, it is almost silly!”

“What does he do?”

“He leers at me, for one thing. But aside from that, he is always trying to do things for me, and he acts like an elfling around me. It is rather tiresome.”

“You are not interested?”

“Not at all.”

“I must agree with Orophin, though. He is very fair.”

“I agree as well. I was very attracted to him at our first meeting, but discovered very quickly that he the most boring elf to grace Arda.”

“But you said you found him annoying.”

“I do. But it is actually possible for someone to be annoying and boring at the same time. Although his boring side is more powerful. He is too involved with that library and books, and he spends so much time alone. It exhausts me to think about. Which is why I do not understand Orophin’s interest in him. Unless, of course, that interest in is having at him and being done with it.”

“And that is Orophin’s way. He is trying to prove he can get even the most difficult elves into his bed. Once he does, his interest will drift elsewhere and Erestor can go back to his books.”

“Which is well advised. I considered trying to bed him once just for the experience, but changed my mind. He is always swooning around me as it is, it would only get worse if I bedded him.”

“Well, I would rather keep my relationship with him on a formal basis. He is fair, but I do not much enjoy one time flings, regardless of what you may have been told.”

“Ah! So you have heard those rumors?”

“Oh yes, the many that there are. Have you heard what my latest fling supposedly is?”

“No, but I would love to know!”

“Well, it appears these trips I make every so often are to bed Elrond, and that is the only reason!”

“And have you bedded him?”

“Of course not! Not that he is not attractive, of course. But I am bound, you know this. And I honor that.”

“And Celeborn is a lucky elf for that. I have noticed more than a few who do not honor their commitment.”

“Well, that is their choice, but not mine. I am more than happy to return to Celeborn and only Celeborn every night.”

“And I am happy with Lindir, although he does not appear too happy with me at the moment.”

“Is something wrong?”

“There are rumors about me, too. And unfortunately, Lindir is a very jealous elf.”
