Part 5

Part 5…

Glorfindel was stopped twice whilst enroute to Haldir and by the time he was able to extract him self from his impromptu conversations, the March warden had departed. Clenching his jaw in frustration Glorfindel once again surveyed the room, trying to catch a glimpse of the elusive guardian. There, leaning casually against a marble pillar by the hall entrance. Once again Glorfindel moved towards him, this time skirting along the edge of the room in an attempt to avoid any additional unwanted attention. When he had come within a few feet of the silver haired trouble maker Glorfindel stopped, and for the second time that evening found him self frozen in place. Haldir was not alone, was in fact whispering quietly into the pointed ear of one lovely, dark haired, dark eyed advisor. With something bordering on horror Glorfindel watched as Haldir moved closer and lightly touched Erestor’s slender waist. In mounting distress he bore witness to the soft and delicate kiss which was bestowed upon the advisor, just along the edge of his mouth. Without a moment’s hesitation and with a red haze coloring his vision, Glorfindel descended upon the unsuspecting pair.

Erestor had scarcely set foot within the dining hall when he had been accosted immediately by the fair faced Haldir. Barely able to tolerate the Guardian when at his best, Erestor found he was having a difficult time enduring his presence in his current condition; frazzled and tense and dreading any encounters with would be suitors or twice born Balrog slayers. Not only was Haldir’s exceedingly sweet tone annoying, it was causing his stomach to churn, although this could also have been the result of the alcohol he had so swiftly downed while hiding in the study. Having fended off the over zealous march warden on three previous occasions, Erestor had reluctantly come to the conclusion that Haldir was not easily put off. Preparing to reject the silver haired rogue’s advances for the fourth time, only this time with the addition of a scathing set down to accompany his refusal; Erestor was quite stunned when the boittlittle upstart kissed him. Jerking back in shock, Erestor fixed Haldir with an icy glared and had just opened his mouth to deliver a contemptuous statement regarding Haldir and his obviously closely related kin ties to that of small brained animals such as pigs, when out of no where an enraged Glorfindel swept down upon them. Erestor watched in disbelief as Glorfindel seized Haldir by the throat and forcibly dragged him from the room.

Shaking his head to get rid of his sudden bout of paralysis, Erestor swiftly followed the two warriors out into the hallway, only to come up short at finding Haldir pinned against the wall, his toes several inches from the floor, and Glorfindel threatening and growling at him.

“Heed me well Haldir of ‘Lorien, Erestor is not to be trifled with. You will apologize for your ill advised wager and your inconsiderate advances”. Staring into Glorfindel’s flashing blue eyes, Haldir swallowed loudly and nodded as much as the grip upon his neck would allow, not about to be foolish enough to oppose the famed Balrog slayer.

Allowing Haldir to slide down the wall until his feet once again touched the floor; Glorfindel finally released the hold he had had on the terrified guardian’s throat. Both elves turned to where Erestor stood, not three feet away, watching them in silence, an unreadable _expression on his face. After glancing wearily at Glorfindel, Haldir timidly moved forwards until he was almost toe-to-toe with the advisor.

“Please accept my most humble apologies for my earlier conduct.” Haldir paused at Erestor’s small nod of acceptance before softly continuing. “I would also like to beg your forgiveness for issuing the challenge in regards to your seduction. It was wrong of me to make a game out of such a thing and was extremely inconsiderate of your feelings.” With sad eyes Haldir looked into the expressionless face of Erestor and felt immense regret as he perceived the hurt hidden deep within the counselors’ large brown eyes.

After a short, though drawn out silence, Erestor sighed softly and spoke. “Haldir, I will not lie and say that your ‘entertainment’, which was brought about at my expense has caused no offense. I will however accept your apology and strive to grant you forgiveness, but I do ask that you to please refrain from lingering in my presence until I have gotten over my anger.”

Nodding and whispering a quiet thank you, Haldir bowed low at the waist and silently moved down the hall in the direction of the guest wing. Erestor watched him until he had turned the corner and disappeared from sight, before slowly turning around to confront Glorfindel, who had yet to move from his place by the wall.
