1 Day...Pt 2
Chapter 47
*One Day to a Wedding Pt. 2*
Elijah and I sat next to each other at our table, surrounded by our friends and family in the wedding party. All was here...including Garrett...whom I'd sat next to Kelly and Orlando since they'd be the ones closest to him during the ceremony. Garrett, being the flirt he was, wasn't phased by the new female face. He babbled to her constantly, and smiled and laughed when she'd make faces and babble to him back. Orlando was even playing with him, they were having a mini fight with their macaroni salad, until Garrett's mom fussed at him, causing Orlando to blush and mumble an apology...even though she'd been fussing at her son.
"Everyone!" Elijah stood and called, bringing the small chatter to a stop. He pulled me up to stand with him. "Sarah and I would like to thank you all for joining us here. I know that this is just a rehearsal for tomorrow, but I'd like to say that we both appreciate your support. And, we'd also like to express our gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Nitz for allowing us to have the ceremony here at their house, and for opening their home to our guests and families." The guests clapped for the elderly couple, who sat at our table.
As the afternoon turned to the evening, there were different things around the field to do. We'd set up a badminton net in one corner, croquet in another, and we all traveled around them all. Elijah and I paired with Heather and Dom to play badminton. I'd hate to admit that they beat us....but they did. Heather did a victory dance and chanted the UNC fight song. When we played another round, it was Elijah and I who won. Billy kept distracting Dom and Heather by calling out taunts and chants as we returned the birdie. When we finally won our round, Dom dropped the racquet and together he and Heather chased down Billy with the water pistols that they adults had given the kids.
Elijah and I walked around and mingled with the guests. My grandfather had brought out his homemade wine, and a few bottles of whiskey for the adults who weren't going to be driving anytime soon.
"So where's the honeymoon then?" Billy asked after a few sips of his whiskey.
"It's a surprise." Elijah said smiling.
I laughed, "He won't tell me. I'll find out tomorrow after the reception." I shrugged. "I don't mind where we go, as long as it's not in opposite directions of each other."
"Well damn, there goes my honeymoon." Elijah jested, and leaned in to kiss my nose.
"Alright kiddies," My mom said pulling me up. "It's almost midnight, gotta go now Elijah." Together she and Elijah's mom hauled me into the house, while Elijah was dragged by my Dad and Grandfather to the car to take Elijah to my Uncles house. The groomsmen followed Elijah while the bridesmaids followed me. We sat up all night laughing and talking, watching romantic chick flicks and eating popcorn. In the end we finally had to try and sleep, since we were going to have the wedding at ten the next morning.
I couldn't sleep though. I grabbed a robe and walked outside to sit on the cellar bank, I looked at the stars and smiled.
*Flashback*
I heard someone walking up the side and knew who it was. "When I was a little girl I'd lay here and watch the stars. Every time I saw a shooting star I'd make the same wish, to be happy, and successful at whatever I chose to do."
"What about now?" He laid down next to me and stuck a blade of grass in his mouth, chewing on it slightly. I know he wanted to smoke, but I'd asked him to try not too, due to my mother and grandfathers poor health.
"Well...I can say that I'm happy, happier than I think I've ever been. I'm starting my acting career, and I hope to be successful at it." I smiled, and blushed. "All I need now is to get married, have kids and grow old with my husband."
"That sounds like a good wish." He said, "now all you have to do is find your star." He smiled and took my hand.
"No pun intended of course." I smiled.
"What pun?" He joked. Then looked up into the sky as it was suddenly filled with shooting stars.
I grabbed his arm, "Oh look!" It was a meteor shower, and a bright one at that.
"I think that means your wish shall come true." He whispered.
*End Flashback*
As I walked back into the house I saw another shooting star, and all I could do was smile.
