Bad Surprises

4. Bad Surprises

It had been 2 weeks since Alan was living in Dom’s appartment. Dominic had done his best to avoid Alan, but as they were sort of living together, that wasn’t always that simple. He saw Billy and Alan far too often acting like they were in seventh heaven. He couldn’t stand that view, so he often left, not knowing where to go. He didn’t wanna imagine what they were doing when he was gone. He spent most of his time outside, walking along the streets, looking at the windows of the stores or going to the cinema alone.

One morning, he was still in bed in order to avoid seeing Billy and Alan kissing on the breakfast table, there was a knock on his bedroom door.

“Yes?” he said looking at the door.

The door was opened and Billy looked at him. “Morning, can I come in?”

“Sure, what’s up? Not with your Prince Charming this morning?”, Dom asked cynically.

Billy frowned: “Why don’t you like him?”

“I do.” Dom lied.

“No, you don’t and I know it... Well, anyways. I was wondering if you and Alan could go out tonight.”

“What?” Dom asked. He thought, he didn’t catch this right.

“You heard me. Because... listen, I’ve got an audition tonight. It’s an interesting movie and I’d really like to get that part. And Alan doesn’t know anyone around here, so I’d be very happy if you could take him out and show him around a bit.” Billy explained. “Please Dommie. This is really important to me.”

Dom sighed. He didn’t want to spend more time than necessary with that guy and now he was asked to actually spend a whole evening with him.

“Come on, Dom.” Billy started again. “Take it as the perfect opportunity to get to know him better. He’s really a nice guy and I just don’t understand, why you don’t like him. Come on, give him a chance. Do it for me.” He looked at him with his sweetest puppy look, not giving Dom the chance to reject his request.

“Alright, alright.” Dom agreed finally.

Billy smiled: “Thank you. You’re simply the best.” He placed a soft peck on Dom’s cheek and exited the room again.

Dom blushed. How he wished to be able to kiss those lips...

During the whole day, he prepared mentally for the evening with Alan. He decided to ask some friends if they were coming too, because he really didn’t care to be alone with Alan. Fortunately Viggo, Sean and Orlando didn’t have any plans and could join him. So at 10 o’clock in the evening they met in Jester. Dom introduced Alan to everybody and was lucky when Viggo and Alan immediately started a conversation. Dom ordered a beer and stood next to Orlando and Sean, who had put his arms around his lover.

“So, that’s him, huh?”, Orlando said.

Dom shrugged: “Looks like.”

“He seems nice.” Orlando said considering Billy’s new boyfriend.

“He isn’t.” Dom said energetically, looking at Orlando. If looks could kill...

Orlando swallowed hard turning around to face Sean and kissed him gently. “Wanna dance?”

Sean smiled and nodded and both of them headed for the dancefloor.

Dom looked at them for a while, then realized that Viggo was standing alone at the bar, no sight of Alan. He approached Viggo, sitting next to him: “Hey.”

“Hey.” Viggo said looking at him. “So, they’re living at your place...”

“Yeah, they are and I honestly couldn’t imagine anything worse.”

“He’s nice. I mean... Of course I don’t know him, but he seems to be alright.”

“Well, he most definitely isn’t. I know it sounds weird, but I just feel that there’s something wrong with that guy.” Dom said looking at his friend.

“What makes you think that?” Viggo asked curiously.

“I don’t know. There’s just something about him... I don’t trust him. He’s not good for Billy.”

“I thought you said Billy was smiling all the time since he’s there...”

“Yeah, well obviously Billy’s happy that he’s here, but he doesn’t know yet that something’s wrong with his boyfriend, now doesn’t he? So of course he’s smiling.” Dom said shaking his head.

“Dom... could it be that you’re becoming a bit paranoid? Honestly, I think there is nothing wrong with this guy.” Viggo said.

“I’m not paranoid. I know I’m right, even if you don’t see it... yet.” He took a sip of his beer, then asked: “Hey, where is he anyway? Wasn’t he here with you all the time?”

“Well... he left about ten minutes ago for the loo, should be back by now.” Viggo answered looking around in order to find Alan. “But I don’t see him.”

“Well, then excuse me, I’m going to look for him. I’m supposed to babysit him, how do you think it would look if I came home without him?” Dom said, drinking the last drops of his beer. “Sean and Orlando are on the dancefloor if you’re looking for company until I’m back.” He said and headed straight to the toilet.

He looked around, trying to find Alan on the dancefloor, but couldn’t see him. He entered the bathroom of the club and looked around. There was a gay couple kissing in a corner, and two of the cabins were occupied. He layed against the wall, waiting for anyone to come out. The first man who exited the toilet was a teenager in baggy clothes, the second one a man in his forties. Dom frowned. Where else could Alan be. At that moment, the gay couple moved –still kissing- into one of the cabins. Just before the door was closed, Dom could see one of the men’s face and his eyes widened as he recognized him as Alan. Un-fucking-believable. They hadn’t even been there for half an hour and already he was cheating on Billy. He knew it! He quickly got out of the bathroom trying to find his friends on the dancefloor. When he eventually found them, he pulled Viggo away, telling him what he had just seen. He said he was going home immediately and didn’t leave Viggo any time to hold him back.

Dom got home and entered his appartment. He was very surprised when he saw Billy sitting there on the couch, watching TV. Billy was as surprised as Dom.

“Already back?” Billy asked. “Where’s Alan?” He asked.

“On the loo of Jester snogging and probably fucking some male slut!” Dom burst out. He couldn’t think, it just came out of him. He looked at Billy who was looking at him with an expressionless face.

“What...?” he whispered.

“Yes. We weren’t even there for an hour when he sneaked away and fucked the first guy he found. Can you believe that?” Dom said furiously.

“I can’t believe it...” Billy said, looking at Dom. “I can’t believe that you would do something like that.”

Dom looked at him confused: “Me? Billy, I just said that Alan, your boyfriend Alan is cheating on you.”

“Yes you!” Billy raised his voice and looked angrily at his friend. “I don’t know what your problem with Alan is. You hated him from the first moment he got here and now you invent stupid lies about him. I don’t understand you, honestly! I thought you were my friend!”

Dom looked at him. He couldn’t believe it. He was saying the truth, but Billy didn’t believe him?! “What? I’m telling you the truth, Bill. That guy isn’t faithful at all, but he certainly doesn’t love you, savvy?!”

“You’re such a liar, I can’t believe it. Dom, what’s fucking wrong with you?!” Billy screamed. Seriously, how could Dom invent lies like that?

“Why don’t you believe me? Billy, I’m telling you the truth, I want to protect you from that bastard, why don’t you see that he’s the liar?”

“Because he isn’t! It’s obvious that you’re just trying to make me hate him, I just can’t see the reason!”

Dom just shook his head: “This just doesn’t make any sense. You know what? Believe that stupid idiot and get hurt! I’m trying to help you and you just made me feel like the last idiot, so do what you want, I don’t care!” He went to his bedroom and shut the door with a loud bang.

The next few days, they avoided eachother. Billy and Alan – obviously Alan hadn’t told Billy about the other day and Billy kept believing him – always left the house in the morning and didn’t come back until late in the evening when Dom was already in his room. They rarely saw eachother and Dom welcomed it. He was still raging. Now there were fighting. They had never had a real fight and it didn’t feel good. But he wasn’t going to apologize because there was nothing wrong with what he said. He only wanted to protect his angel and now they were fighting.

A week after that night, Dom was sitting in the living room watching TV. He didn’t expect the couple to come back before 11 pm, because Viggo had told him they were going out together. Without him. Now he was excluded by his own friends for telling nothing but the bare truth. Wasn’t that fantastic?

He flinched when suddenly the front door was unlocked. He turned his head and saw Billy entering the flat, closing the door behind him. He went immediately to his room, closing the door behind him. Dom looked at the door confused. Where was Alan? And could it be that he had just heard a sob? He didn’t know what to do. He turned off the TV and listened very attentively until he finally most definitely heard a strange noise from Billy’s room. He got up and knocked on the door.

“Go away!” Billy’s voice said from the other side of the room.

Dom knocked again and opened the door as he didn’t get an answer. He looked inside and saw Billy lying on the bed, his head buried in his pillows.

“I told you to leave me alone!” Billy said. His voice didn’t sound very stable.

Dom approached his bed: “What’s going on?”

Billy didn’t answer.

Dominic sat down on the bed and Billy moved away.

“Where’s Alan?”

“Not here, are you happy now?” Billy said, looking at him. His eyes were red, it was obvious he’d been crying.

“What happened...?” Dominic asked, slightly worried.

“He’s not here, and never will be, because I never want to see him again! You should be happy, because you were again the one who was right, so are you satisfied now?!”

They looked at eachother for a while. Dom shook his head. “No, Billy, I’m not. I never wanted you to get hurt...”

“Yeah right.”, Billy sobbed putting his pillow over his head and crying.

Dom was so sorry for him. He had wanted Billy to know what was going on, but he was so hurt now. Somehow he wished, he had never said anything. On second thought, he realized that it wasn’t his fault at all, because Billy had found it out on his own.

Dom laid next to Billy, putting his hand gently on his back. Billy flinched at the touch.

“Leave me alone.” He sobbed again.

Dom moved closer to his crying friend, pulling him in his arms. At first, Billy was struggling, not wanting to be held, but eventually he gave in and snuggled into his friend’s embrace crying even harder.

Dom stroked his friend’s back and whispered comforting words. It hurt him so much to see his love so vulnerable. “I’m sorry, honey.” He whispered, placing a soft kiss on his temple and hugging him.

After some time, Billy managed to calm down a bit. He looked at Dom who wiped the tears from his friend’s cheeks.

“I’m sorry I didn’t believe you...” Billy murmured.

“I know. Maybe I shouldn’t have said something. It was your business. But I couldn’t just ignore it. I would’ve felt bad. I just didn’t want you to get hurt again...” Dom explained.

“I know. You always only wanted my best and I said all those awful things to you. I’m such a bad person...” Billy said, his eyes filling with tears again.

“Nooo...” Dom said pulling him closer. “You’re the best person I’ve ever met. I understand your reaction. If I was in your place, I’m sure I would’ve reacted like that too. It’s really not your fault, honey. You’re the sweetest, nicest guy I’ve ever known and I know that you didn’t really mean all those things.”

Billy pulled up his nose. “Thank you.” He smiled a bit.

Dom smiled back: “You’re welcome.”

The following day, Alan came back and wanted to talk to Billy, trying to apologize and get him back, but Dom didn’t let him come close to his friend and threw him out with all his stuff. Then he slammed the door, letting Alan know that he wasn’t welcome here anymore.
