Chapter Four
“Nice to meet you Billy Boyd, I’m Dominic Monaghan.”
Billy smiled and gave Dominic the papers as he stood up.
“Please call me Dom.”
Billy smiles, “okay… Dom.”
Dom gave Billy this cheeky grin that made Billy smile wide.
“So, Billy, what are you majoring in?”
“I just decided to go with Drama, and you?”
“Me too!” Dom said shocked, “this is wonderful! Take the same courses that I’m taking! We could be classmates for good!”
Dom’s enthusiasm made Billy laugh, “Alright, you convinced me, let’s go.”
Both went to the registration office and Billy picked out the same courses as Dom, four in total. Both went outside and sat down on a bench to check out the schedule.
“Right, we have ‘Introduction to Drama’ with McKellen, Mondays from 2 to 5 pm. ‘History of Cinema’ with Mortensen, Tuesdays from 2 to 5 pm. Ooh, lookit that, we get Wednesdays off! Uh, ‘Acting Workshop’, Thursdays from 2 to 5 pm with Astin and finally ‘Drama Seminar’, Fridays from 2 to 5 pm with Bean… I like this schedule, what say you Billy Boyd?”
Billy laughed, “I say, wonderful schedule Dom Monaghan.”
They sat in comfortable silence until Dom asked.
“So, Billy, where are you from?”
“Edinburgh, Scotland. What about you?”
“Scotland! I love that country! I went there when I was very young with my family, have good memories of it… I’m from Manchester, England!” he laughed.
I like this Dom, he makes me laugh. “So you just arrived?”
“Yeah, I arrived two days ago, I’ve been trying to get settled, familiarize myself with the city, get a part time job to pay the bills, what about you?”
“I just arrived today.”
“Bloody hell Billy! You must be tired!”
“Just a little but I’m fine.”
“Oh no, you must go rest, let’s go to the apartments, I’ll show you where I live and you show me where you live. That way, we’ll know where to find each other.”
“Alright Dom, sounds good to me.”
“And, if you like, we could go have dinner?”
“Yeah! Sure!” Did I answer too bloody fast?!
Dom laughed, “Good! 8 o’clock! I’ll pick you up.”
They went to the student apartments. Billy saw that he was two buildings away from Dom. Dom had a roommate, Elijah who was also majoring in drama but is halfway through.
“Okay, Billy, I’ll pick you up at 8.”
“Okay Dom, see you later.” This sounds like a date!
Billy went to his room. Dom is quite a character, he’s friendly, funny and silly, I think we will be good friends if things don’t screw up. I’m going out with him tonight and we just met!
Dom was true to his word; he picked up Billy at 8 and went to downtown LA to the Cheesecake Factory. Both talked about their childhoods, though Billy had to modify his childhood and didn’t mention some things like the languages he knew, the martial arts he knew, or really anything.
Billy learned that Dom was also 28, that he was born in Germany and lived there for eleven years, then moved to Manchester, and that he has been living there since he moved to America. Another thing that we have in common, I can also speak German thought Billy.
He also found out that Dom had an older brother and that his parents were still married.
“What does your father do Billy?”
Oh God. “Eh, he runs a… company.”
“What sort of company?”
Double trouble. “Uh, latex?”
Dom’s eyebrows raised, “Latex? That’s interesting.”
“Yes, it’s interesting,” Billy laughed. No more questions about my family, I can’t tell you!
They ate their meal and walked around the city for a while, they did some more talking, this time about the things they liked to do. They arrived to Billy’s apartment at midnight.
“Dom thank you so much for tonight, it was fun.”
“Yes, it was fun, I’m glad I met you Billy.”
“Yes, me too. I guess I’ll see you Monday in class?”
“Yeah, goodnight Billy.”
“Goodnight Dom.”
Billy smiled and gave Dominic the papers as he stood up.
