Chapter 4
“Glorfindel, what in the name of Manwe did you do to Dringion?” Ecthelion said as he threw Erestor’s door open. “All over the barracks they are talking of how you nearly killed him.” He stared at Erestor and Glorfindel, as the two slowly broke apart. “And what in the name of all that is holy do you think you are doing with my brother?”
Erestor rested his head on Glorfindel’s shoulder. “He was just comforting me, Thel.”
At the same time as Erestor spoke, Glorfindel said, “I was just kissing him, Thel.”
Erestor lifted his head and smiled so adoringly at Glorfindel that the warrior had no choice but to place a gentle kiss on councilor’s soft lips.
“Well you can just *stop* kissing him, Glorfindel….now!” Ecthelion said, trying desperately to control his rising annoyance. “Do not toy with my brother, Fin, or you will have to answer to me! I think this pretense has gone far enough.”
“I do not toy with him, Thel,” Glorfindel said calmly, his eyes never looking away from Erestor’s dark ones. “I do not toy at all,” he whispered. “May I court you, Erestor?”
Erestor nodded. “I would like that very much, Glorfindel,” he whispered back.
Ecthelion stood in shock, looking at his brother and best friend. Glorfindel wanted to court Erestor? “What is going on, Glorfindel? You cannot mean that. You looked upon Erestor as a brother until last night, for Valar sake!”
“Thel…..close the door behind you,” Erestor said, “when you leave.” He slowly licked his lips, then placed them on Glorfindel’s in a fleeting touch.
Glorfindel’s lips closed over Erestor’s, and he silently thanked the Valar for the turn of events that had led to this sweet elf being in his arms. His fingers moved through Erestor’s silky hair as he deepened the kiss.
Erestor moaned softly as Glorfindel’s tongue traced the side of his own, stroking it and sending bolts of lightening through his body. His hands gripped the warrior’s solid biceps for a moment, before threading through the golden hair.
“Oh, Elbereth,” Ecthelion muttered, shaking his head. He exited the room, pulling the door closed behind him, and stood with his back to the door, guarding his brother’s privacy. As he stood, a smile slowly tugged at his lips. Glorfindel had certainly taken care of Dringion. Who would be better for his beloved little brother than his trusted friend and dear companion? He surely would not have to worry about Erestor’s welfare with Glorfindel around. And if Dringion tried anything in retaliation against Erestor, he would find himself answering to the Lords of two houses. Perhaps this wasn’t a bad thing after all; in fact, Ecthelion was beginning to think it was a good situation – a very good situation.
Inside Erestor’s office, the two elves finally broke apart. “I must go to the barracks and speak to Dringion’s captain, Erestor,” Glorfindel said softly, caressing Erestor’s face. “I do not want him anywhere around you.” He kissed Erestor’s reddened lips gently. “And then I must see to my own troops.”
“Will I see you tonight, Glorfindel?” Erestor asked, unable to move his eyes from Glorfindel’s and basking in the tenderness he saw there. There was something else he saw in the blue eyes as well, but Erestor could not quite place what it was.
“Of course you will. I thought to return this evening and escort you home. May I?”
Erestor smiled and nodded, then pressed his lips again to Glorfindel’s in a soft kiss. Running his thumb over the warrior’s lips, he whispered, “I like kissing you.” Realizing what he had just said, he blushed a lovely shade of rose, but did not remove his hand from Glorfindel’s face.
Glorfindel gazed in amazement at Erestor, seeing the adoring look on the young councilor’s face. His heart filled with love for this exquisite elf, and he knew he had finally found his soul mate. He wanted to sweep Erestor into his arms and carry him away to claim him as his mate that very day - but Erestor was too young, and Glorfindel knew he had to take his time and allow the younger elf to be sure of his feelings. And besides, Ecthelion would kill him. “I like kissing you too, Erestor,” he whispered back, kissing the thumb still resting against his lips. “I would like to stay here and kiss you more, but I really must go now. Will you wait for me to come back for you this evening?”
“Yes, always,” Erestor answered as he moved and rose with Glorfindel. He heart was pounding and he felt giddy and freer than he had ever before felt. He felt like singing, or dancing. He wanted to run and scream from the rooftops for all to hear that he loved this elf. Chiding himself to act like an adult and not an elfling, he walked Glorfindel to the door.
“Until this evening then, Erestor. Perhaps we can have dinner together with Thel? Would you like that?” Glorfindel asked, thinking it was too soon to steal Erestor away for just himself.
Erestor’s face lit up in a smile. “Yes, I would like that very much. And I think Thel would too.”
Giving Erestor one last soft kiss, he opened the door and ran into Ecthelion’s back.
“About time you came out of there, Fin. I was about to barge in and drag you out. Now what’s going on?” Thel demanded.
“Well, I asked your brother if he would allow me to court him, and he said yes.” Glorfindel grinned, closing the door behind him. “I will escort him home this evening and we will all dine together, and then we can talk more about it if you like.”
“Oh, yes. I do indeed want to talk more about it.”
“Good. Now if you will excuse me, Thel, I need to see Dringion’s captain, and then see to my own troops. I will see you tonight.” Glorfindel took off down the hall, whistling.
Ecthelion opened the door to Erestor’s office to find his brother hugging himself and dancing around the room. “Erestor,” he started speaking gently.
Hearing his brother, Erestor stopped and ran to him, grabbing his hands in his smaller ones and pulling him along. “Oh, Thel, is it not wonderful? Is he not wonderful? And he asked to court me! Oh, I am so very happy, I feel like I could fly!”
Smiling in understanding at his brother, Ecthelion clasped him in his arms and hugged him close. “Erestor, I want you to be happy, but I also want you to take this slowly enough to be sure of your feelings. You are so young yet. Remember, you had never even been kissed before last night.”
“Thel, I can feel it…..I feel it in my heart and in my soul. This is right. There will never be another for me. No matter what happens, no matter if he decides he does not love me and does not want me, I am Glorfindel’s. And I always will be.” Erestor placed his hands on either side of Ecthelion’s face and looked into his eyes. “I *know* this Thel. I *know*.”
~~~*~~~
In the barracks, Dringion’s captain listened to Glorfindel and sighed. “I was always afraid something like this would happen. Dringion is a good guard, but thinks too highly of himself and too little of others. Perhaps duty in the palace stables for a while will teach him some humility. Will that do, my Lord?”
Glorfindel nodded. “A fitting punishment for an arrogant guard, Captain.”
~~~*~~~
When it was time to return to their homes, Glorfindel returned to the palace to escort Erestor home. Knocking on his office door, he waited until he heard Erestor call for him to enter. Opening the door he smiled, finding Erestor alone and tidying up his desk.
Erestor looked up, and a smile spread across his face, making his eyes sparkle. “Glorfindel.”
Glorfindel closed the door. Hurrying to Erestor’s side he picked up the slighter elf, laughing in joy and spinning him around. “I have missed you, my beautiful Erestor,” he said. “Did you miss me?” Sitting in Erestor’s chair, he held the councilor close on this lap.
“I missed you too, Glorfindel,” Erestor said, his arms winding around the warrior’s neck and looking at him with eyes full of love. “May I kiss you?”
“Yes, please, Erestor. I have dreamt of your sweet kisses all the day, and longed to hold you in my arms again.” Glorfindel’s heart raced with the nearness of this perfect elf. The soft mouth descended on his, and Glorfindel opened to him, waiting and allowing Erestor to take the lead.
Erestor moaned as he felt Glorfindel’s mouth open to him. Unable to resist the offer, Erestor thrust his tongue into Glorfindel’s sweetness, tasting every corner. He could no longer think, simply feel. His body was on fire and only Glorfindel could extinguish the flames. Turning in Glorfindel’s lap, he straddled the warrior and pressed every inch of himself he could against the muscled body beneath him.
Glorfindel groaned as Erestor pressed against him. Pulling apart for air, panting for breath, he looked hard into Erestor’s eyes before capturing his sweet mouth in a deep kiss of his own. Holding the lithe body to him, his hands stroked Erestor’s back.
Erestor could no longer think, as Glorfindel kissed him senseless. His hands clenched and unclenched in Glorfindel’s hair until lack of air forced them apart once again.
Glorfindel cradled Erestor’s head against his shoulder as the councilor slumped against him panting for breath. He could feel Erestor’s hard length pressed against him, and resisted the urge to thrust his own against it. He held Erestor for long minutes, and then finally said, “Erestor, sweet one, we should return to your home or Thel will be concerned for you.”
Erestor nodded against Glorfindel’s shoulder, then lifted his head. “All right.” He laid his head back down again. “In a minute. I do not want to move yet. It feels so good when you hold me.”
“It feels so good to hold you. Like you belong in my arms. You fit so perfectly against me.”
“How did this happen, Glorfindel? Before last night I never thought of you as anything other than a dear friend – nearly another brother. And now…..” Erestor’s voice trailed off.
“I think perhaps these feelings were always there, Erestor. I have been thinking of that today. I have been your brother’s best friend since before you were born, and perhaps we just never noticed how our feelings changed until Dringion’s actions brought them into the light. I knew the minute I agreed to pretend to be your lover it would not be hard at all, because I already loved you.”
Erestor raised his head again and looked into Glorfindel’s eyes. “You love me?”
“Of course I do, Erestor. I would not have asked if I could court you otherwise.” Glorfindel answered softly. “What does your heart tell you of how you feel about me?”
“My heart tells me I will love only you, forever. That I was born to love you, and only you, forever. That you are the other half of my soul,” Erestor whispered.
“Oh, Erestor,” Glorfindel breathed against Erestor’s lips. “My Erestor.”
“Yours. Always…..only yours,” Erestor whispered before his lips were enclosed in a tender kiss.
~~~*~~~
“Well, it is about time you two arrived,” Ecthelion said as his brother and Glorfindel entered the small family dining room. “I was just wondering if I should be worried or not.”
Erestor crossed the room and wrapped his arms around his brother. “We needed to talk, Thel. I am sorry we worried you.”
“Hmmm…..looks like you did more than talk, little one,” Thel answered, looking at Erestor’s still kiss-swollen lips.
Erestor’s smile was blinding. “Well, maybe a little more. I love him, Thel. And he loves me.”
Ecthelion nodded. “Will you let me speak to him alone for a few minutes before we eat, Erestor? There are some things I want to…..need to say to him.”
“All right, Thel.” Erestor moved out of his brother’s arms and into Glorfindel’s. “I will leave you two alone to speak for a little while I change out of my robes.” Caressing Glorfindel’s face with his hand, he whispered, “Kiss me?”
Glorfindel’s lips moved over Erestor’s in a long and loving kiss. “Hurry back, sweet one,” he whispered, releasing Erestor with a tender smile. His eyes followed Erestor as he left the room.
“Well, Fin,” Ecthelion said as he handed a glass of wine to Glorfindel, “tell me. What happens now, my old friend?”
“Now I court him, Thel, and allow him the time to be sure. How I long to join with him, but he is so young yet. No…..I must be patient,” Glorfindel said. He sipped at his wine.
“Do you doubt that he loves you, Fin?”
Glorfindel raised his eyebrows in question. “I do not. Would you have me move faster?”
Ecthelion sighed and sat down in his chair, motioning to Glorfindel to join him at the table. “I am torn, Fin, and troubled. I want Erestor to be happy, and he is happier now than I have ever seen him before. I want him protected, and I know you will protect him. Forces of evil are moving. Who knows how long we will be safe here.”
Glorfindel nodded. He and Ecthelion had spoken of this before. “Erestor wants to learn how to defend himself, Thel. I believe he should learn, especially now. He did not like feeling helpless with Dringion, and I agreed to teach him.”
“I suppose you are right. Very well. We will both teach him. But he is young, and I just want to be sure he really understands what he is doing.”
Glorfindel and Ecthelion were so close that they could easily follow their disjointed conversion. Thel had gone back to worrying about Erestor being in love with him. “I love him, Thel. I have loved him for a long time, but did not realize it because of our closeness. I would never do anything to willingly hurt him. I truly believe he is my soul mate.”
Ecthelion sighed. “He feels the same. He told me he just *knows*. Erestor is a very intuitive elf, Fin. Even Turgon has seen it. It is why he chose Erestor to be a councilor at his young age. Erestor may see himself as nothing more than a glorified scribe, but the king has relied on his counsel on more than one occasion. Do not rush him, but neither delay too long, Fin. I wish to see him happy for as long as he can be, come what may. I no longer doubt that the two of you belong together. You have my blessing – not that you need it since Erestor is grown and his own elf, but you have it all the same.”
“Thank you, Thel,” Glorfindel clasped Ecthelion’s hand.
“Have you spoken long enough, brother? The servants wish to begin serving us before our meal grows cold.” Erestor’s head was peeking in the door.
“We have finished, Erestor.” Ecthelion smiled at his brother. “Come and join us.”
Erestor entered the room as Glorfindel rose to greet him and engulfed the smaller elf in a hug. “I missed you, sweet one,” the warrior said, “and Thel has given us his blessing.”
Erestor sighed happily in Glorfindel’s arms. “Thank you, Thel,” he said, peeking around Glorfindel to look at his brother.
Ecthelion smiled, raised his goblet to Erestor, then took a sip of wine. “Come and sit, you two. I am starving. Some of us need more than love to live on.”
The two lovers laughingly took their seats just as the servants entered with their food.
After dinner, the three elves lounged on sofas in Ecthelion’s cozy sitting room. “Play for us, Thel?” Glorfindel asked.
“All right.” Ecthelion set his wine glass down and crossed the room to pick up his flute. “What would you like to hear?”
Erestor named a traditional lover’s song, and settled his back against Glorfindel’s chest, sighing contentedly when the warrior wrapped his arms around him. After Ecthelion played a few measures, Erestor began to sing.
Glorfindel was transfixed, listening to Erestor’s pure, rich voice weave an enchanting spell around him. When the song ended, he whispered, “Beautiful. How did I never know your voice was so beautiful,” and lifted Erestor’s chin to bestow a sweet kiss on his soft lips. “You enchant me, my love.”
“As you do me, beloved,” Erestor whispered back.
Ecthelion began playing another tune, finding it difficult to keep playing around his grin. Fin and his brother really were adorable together. And it was evident to his eyes that they were very much in love.
“Will you dance with me, sweet one?” Glorfindel asked.
Erestor nodded and rose, pulling Glorfindel up along with him. He settled against Glorfindel, his head nestled under the warrior’s chin, content to have strong arms surround him as they glided across the floor to Ecthelion’s soft music.
“I love you, Erestor.”
“I love you, Glorfindel.”
I want Erestor to be happy, and he is happier now than I have ever seen him before. I want him protected, and I know you will protect him. Forces of evil are moving. Who knows how long we will be safe here.”
Glorfindel nodded. He and Ecthelion had spoken of this before. “Erestor wants to learn how to defend himself, Thel. I believe he should learn, especially now. He did not like feeling helpless with Dringion, and I agreed to teach him.”
“I suppose you are right. Very well. We will both teach him. But he is young, and I just want to be sure he really understands what he is doing.”
Glorfindel and Ecthelion were so close that they could easily follow their disjointed conversion. Thel had gone back to worrying about Erestor being in love with him. “I love him, Thel. I have loved him for a long time, but did not realize it because of our closeness. I would never do anything to willingly hurt him. I truly believe he is my soul mate.”
Ecthelion sighed. “He feels the same. He told me he just *knows*. Erestor is a very intuitive elf, Fin. Even Turgon has seen it. It is why he chose Erestor to be a councilor at his young age. Erestor may see himself as nothing more than a glorified scribe, but the king has relied on his counsel on more than one occasion. Do not rush him, but neither delay too long, Fin. I wish to see him happy for as long as he can be, come what may. I no longer doubt that the two of you belong together. You have my blessing – not that you need it since Erestor is grown and his own elf, but you have it all the same.”
“Thank you, Thel,” Glorfindel clasped Ecthelion’s hand.
“Have you spoken long enough, brother? The servants wish to begin serving us before our meal grows cold.” Erestor’s head was peeking in the door.
“We have finished, Erestor.” Ecthelion smiled at his brother. “Come and join us.”
Erestor entered the room as Glorfindel rose to greet him and engulfed the smaller elf in a hug. “I missed you, sweet one,” the warrior said, “and Thel has given us his blessing.”
Erestor sighed happily in Glorfindel’s arms. “Thank you, Thel,” he said, peeking around Glorfindel to look at his brother.
Ecthelion smiled, raised his goblet to Erestor, then took a sip of wine. “Come and sit, you two. I am starving. Some of us need more than love to live on.”
The two lovers laughingly took their seats just as the servants entered with their food.
After dinner, the three elves lounged on sofas in Ecthelion’s cozy sitting room. “Play for us, Thel?” Glorfindel asked.
“All right.” Ecthelion set his wine glass down and crossed the room to pick up his flute. “What would you like to hear?”
Erestor named a traditional lover’s song, and settled his back against Glorfindel’s chest, sighing contentedly when the warrior wrapped his arms around him. After Ecthelion played a few measures, Erestor began to sing.
Glorfindel was transfixed, listening to Erestor’s pure, rich voice weave an enchanting spell around him. When the song ended, he whispered, “Beautiful. How did I never know your voice was so beautiful,” and lifted Erestor’s chin to bestow a sweet kiss on his soft lips. “You enchant me, my love.”
“As you do me, beloved,” Erestor whispered back.
Ecthelion began playing another tune, finding it difficult to keep playing around his grin. Fin and his brother really were adorable together. And it was evident to his eyes that they were very much in love.
“Will you dance with me, sweet one?” Glorfindel asked.
Erestor nodded and rose, pulling Glorfindel up along with him. He settled against Glorfindel, his head nestled under the warrior’s chin, content to have strong arms surround him as they glided across the floor to Ecthelion’s soft music.
“I love you, Erestor.”
“I love you, Glorfindel.”
