Two weeks had passed since that moment in the warehouse. Dom’s words really had comforted Billy. He was eager to learn and tried to do his best. But he never ever mentioned that night again. Since then he could not look Dom straight in the eyes. It had been the way they had been sitting next to each other, Dom holding Billy tightly. It was so intensive, so intimate. They had been so close to each other. Billy had pulled away as he had realized Dom’s words. Dom maybe hadn’t noticed that Billy had been confused. His feelings for this stranger, for this fantasy creature, this young man with those gorgeous eyes and incredible body, weren’t really normal, he told himself more than only once.
He never felt like this before, men usually didn’t turn him on. In fact nothing turned him on except computers and expensive looking armors and weapons. Perhaps it was just the fact that Dom was what he was: A Vampire. Maybe he had some aura that would draw victims towards him. His deadly gift. It was true, Dom didn’t drink any blood. Well, at least Billy never saw him drinking any. Or see him drinking at all. But it could possibly be that even when a vampire refused to be one his abilities stayed. Yes, that must be it! He hadn’t had any feelings for this… for Dom.
All these thoughts were almost tormenting Billy, though he had this theory. But it became lame the more he was around Dom. They had been practicing very hard and Billy became better from day to day. Dom had said fighting was in Billy’s blood and he only had to remember and to train this sense again. Dom would show him every move, swirling his sword around him in his black clothes. That leather coat, damn it, it nearly drove Billy insane. He had to blink several times and shake his head violently to control his emotions. Billy also wasn’t able to sleep. Though he was so tired of practicing all night long he stayed awake anxious to close his eyes. For then the image of Dominic would appear. He would be again so close. But out of reach. Billy couldn’t believe that the young vampire attracted him so much.
“Ok, that was very good! I think three more lessons and you will be as good as I am! See, I’ve told you that you had it in you! Your grandfather was absolutely right about you. You must be the one.”
Dom and Billy were standing in the old warehouse again. Dawn was almost breaking and Dom had to leave.
“We gotta go, or instead I will be nothing but a pile of ashes and of no use any longer.” He laughed about his joke and again divulged his white canine teeth.
“Did it hurt?”, Billy asked not noticing that he was staring at Dom’s mouth part.
“Huh? What did you say?”
“Did it hurt when he bit yeh?”
“Like hell! I will have those marks of his teeth forever burned into my neck. As every human being he bit. By the way, I wanted to know what you do know about Viggo. Or how you even know his name.”
“He introduced himself to meh as a salesman who traded with swords and stuff. We only had email contact, Ah never actually saw him. Ah mentioned that Ah was searching for that sword and if he had it by accident, but it turned out that he was looking for it, too. He always emphasized that he wanted that sword, how important it was to him. What use does he have if he gets it anyway? He can’t control it, right?”
“Right. But he can control you. He’s looking for you, too.”, Dom said seriously. “That’s why you have to be careful. That’s why I’ve came. To protect you.”
And for the first since Dom had met Billy he smiled gently at him, not insolent but nice and friendly. Billy literally melted away. He until now had known the brave, cheeky, powerful and also dangerous character of Dominic. But now Dom seemed to have opened up to Billy. He was looking at Billy now with great respect and decency. Not quite the way Billy had wished Dom would look at him.
“So, we’ll better leave then.” Dom cleared his throat and started to walk out of the hall, Billy right behind him.
Suddenly an arrow shot out of nowhere and brushed Dom’s left arm ripping a big hole into his black coat. Billy jumped and quickly ran over to Dom. He at that moment even forgot that Dom was immortal.
“Are yeh alright? Anything happened?”, he asked with a worried voice.
“Yeah I’m fine. Billy, Nothing can happen to me!” He reached with his right hand over to the place where if he had been a normal human being blood would be streaming out of it. “But what the bloody…?” Dom turned around and looked up.
“I’ll tell you what the bloody!”, a deep rough voice echoed through the hall. “Hello, Dominic! Nice to see you again! Did you miss me?”
Billy and Dominic rushed back to the middle of the hall and looked around in it. Then they could recognize him. A man with deep blonde hair emerged on a platform which floated in the air hanging down from the ceiling.
“And I see that you already brought him with you. Very good job, Dominic!” Viggo applauded, his single claps filling the whole space. And then his helpers appeared in every corner. “It was really nice of you to take care of my property but now I’m sorry that I have to claim it back.”
He smiled mockingly while Billy and Dom standing back to back now were slowly surrounded by the enemies. Both men reached for their swords and pulled them out hastily making the others jump slightly. But Viggo seemed unimpressed.
“Billy, when I say run you run.”, Dom whispered.
“But what about yeh? Ah won’t leave yeh alone!”, Billy whispered back a little bit louder.
“Do as I said! Keep your mouth shut and when I’ll give you a sign you leave. Go to the bar ‘Black Widow’ tonight, there you will find friends of mine. They will help you.”
Billy wanted to contradict but it was too late for the first vampires attacked them. Dom stormed into the crowd and fought like a tiger. He stabbed nearly every vampire and made them burst into ashes when only brushing them with his silver sword. He swirled around, coat and blonde hair floating in the wind he produced, feet kicking, fists punching, eyes harder than iron. Billy, though also involved in some fights, wasn’t able to take his eyes off Dominic now. He was worried that they would be separated because this was obviously Viggo’s plan.
Thanks to Dom’s lessons Billy could kill most of the creatures and so created some kind of empty space around him. Realizing this he took the chance and rushed over to Dominic who was more and more surrounded by attackers. Suddenly Dom shot into the air, jumped over the heads of the vampires and hid behind a big trunk. Moments later a great light filled the area going out from the spot where Dom had been standing and the vampires vanished within seconds. Sunlight, Billy thought at once and ran over to Dom.
“Dominic! Are yeh alright?” Billy knelt down beside him and was glad to see him alive.
“I’m fine! But why didn’t you bloody leave? That was the perfect moment!”
“Ah won’t leave you.”, Billy answered. “If this is the way Ah shall die than Ah’m ok with that. As long as Ah die at your side.” Billy blushed at his sudden words. Where the hell did that come from? Why did he say that? Because it was true apparently.
“You’re hiding? What are you, Dominic? A vampire or a coward? I won’t play hide and seek here with you! I insist that you show yourself immediately! Otherwise I will kill both of you!” Viggo was outraged and shouted loudly.
“He can’t do that. You’re too precious to him.” Dom grinned panting. “Well done, Billy. Looks as I have to get our asses out of this again, huh?”
He took out two guns and started loading them with silver bullets.
“Wh…What are yeh going to do?”, Billy stuttered anxiously.
“I’m going to ask Viggo if he wants to dance tango with me. What does it look like to you? I’m gonna threaten him! You’re not ready to challenge him yet.”
Dom was about to stand up but Billy stopped him. This could be the last time he would see Dominic.
“What is it n…?”, started Dom annoyingly but never finished.
Billy pressed his lips against Dom’s. He grabbed Dom’s shirt and pulled him into himself. He felt Dom’s mouth open for him and their tongues met. Billy was sure he could feel Dom’s sharp canine teeth touching his upper lip. They broke apart panting heavily.
“Wow, I call that a goodbye kiss!”, Dom said and smiled.
“Dom, Ah…”, Billy began but was interrupted by Dom.
“Don’t. I know what you’re trying to say. I like you, too. But it will never work, Billy. I’m a vampire.” He took a deep breath. “Stay here.”
And with that statement he stood up and began to slowly walk out of his hiding place. Viggo jumped downstairs and stood now in front of him.
“There you are. I was wondering if you are still alive at all.” Viggo grinned nastily.
Dom panted heavily holding out his two guns now pointing them directly at Viggo.
“You can’t kill me, you know that.” He stopped and his grin widened. “Oh, Dominic, you were never good at hiding your feelings.” Viggo looked around until his gaze landed on the trunk behind which Billy was hiding. “Neither is he.”, he whispered as to himself.
Next to Viggo out of the blue a tall thin figure appeared. Black hair, brown eyes, thin mouth. He wore a black suit, he looked rather elegant and noble, and went right over to Viggo.
“Viggo, you know he isn’t ready yet.” He spoke with a smooth tone in his voice.
“But he will be, Orlando. And he will come to me of his own free will.”, Viggo whispered back emphasizing the last three words strongly.
Then he walked over to Dominic and stopped directly in front him, Dom’s guns touching Viggo’s chest.
“You’re afraid…and in love. Dangerous combination.”
Dom’s hands started trembling again and little drops of sweat could be seen on his forehead.
“Your blood lust is making you suffer, isn’t it.”
Viggo took one more step, Dom dropped his hands weakly to his side and allowed Viggo to come nearer. He leaned over and spoke softly into Dom’s ear.
“I can give you your life back.”
Dom’s head fell down on his chest before his whole body started shaking and then Dom collapsed suddenly right into Viggo’s arms. Immediately more servants of Viggo appeared and seized Dom. They brought a black coffin and lay him into it.
“He isn’t dead, Billy. Not yet.”, Viggo shouted into the hall. “It’s all up to you. Get prepared and when you are come to the harbor. My partner will be impatiently waiting there for you.”
Viggo and his servants left the hall with Dominic stowed away in the coffin, leaving behind a desperate and crying Billy.
