Chapter Four:

With shoves and taunts, Glorfindel and Erestor were lead into a tent. Upon entering, its purpose was clear. There was no furniture inside, nor a fire to fight off the chill. A strong pole was in the center and both elves knew it wasn’t there just to keep the tent standing. Glorfindel tried to look around this small area, but was interrupted when a blade came up to his throat.

“Take your place, elf and do not try anything.” The man said with a harsh, scratchy voice. Slowly Glorfindel lowered himself with his back to the pole and felt his hands being tied with thick leather. Unfortunately, for all their apparent lack of education, they seemed to have mastered knot tying quite well.

“What should we do with this one?” The other man asked, nudging Erestor with the flat of his blade.

Their pondering had just begun when another man forcibly entered, “Kian wants that one, the black haired one in his tent right now. Take him there.” And like an ill wind, he left again knowing his order would be carried out.

The two elves made eye contact as the men turned to Erestor. Together the elves could overcome this dilemma, but their ability would be greatly hindered separated. Fate had decided to increase their challenge. No words were spoken, for none were needed. All that needed to be said they did so with their eyes. Words of love, strength and courage flowed in their gazes and then Erestor was gone and Glorfindel was alone with guards posted around his prison tent. The blond worried for his dark love. The advisor had a beauty few possessed and he could only hope that this Kian did not see it. For if he did, there would be no escape for Erestor.

A hopeless feeling washed over Erestor as he was lead away from his love and towards an unknown place to an even scarier mysterious purpose. Nothing good could come out of this confrontation and the elf could only hope that this meeting would be a short one. His mind told him he was kidding himself, but that small hope was the only thing he had left and he held on to it with an iron grip.

Finally, he came to a tent in the middle of the camp. All the other tents surrounded it almost as if protecting it from an enemy. It was the largest one in the group and Erestor knew before he even entered it that it would have all the luxuries of a fine home inside.

One of the guards spoke hesitantly, “My Lord, we have with us the elf you wished to be brought to you.”

“Let him enter and you stay outside.”

“Get in there, you!” Erestor was shoved through the opening and into warm light and comfortable heat. His eyes immediately found Kian sitting on a small, soft sofa near a fire burning in the center of the tent under a gap in the cloth to allow the smoke to leave harmlessly.

“Ah, I am glad to be able to look upon you alone, my dear elf. If my eyes did not betray me earlier, I thought you were quite enchanting.” The man stood slowly and Erestor could now see that he wore loose sleeping pants and a robe which was untied revealing his chest which was broad and showed strength.

Erestor found his voice, “Why have I been brought here? Why do you continue to hold us? A ransom would gain you little but a group of powerful elven warriors tearing your company apart.” He tried to keep his voice strong in the face of his captor.

“I think the elves will happily give us what we seek in exchange for your lives.”

Curiosity overtook the elf, “What could you possibly want?”

Kian smiled and came up to Erestor’s face so close that he could smell the man’s breath, “Immortality.”

“What?” Erestor questioned, “That is not something that can be given or received. It is not within our power.”

“Ha!” The man laughed loudly, “I thought you would say that. I have heard from people I trust in my cities that it is something that can be given and received by another. Perhaps an elixir? Do your own stories not tell of elves giving up their immortality for another?”

“You are insane.” Erestor spat.

“Perhaps, but in the meantime, I have you and your companion and I plan on holding you until I get what I want.”

A tense silence overtook them both.

Now that the man could study his captive he again took in Erestor’s features. The beauty of him and the way the firelight seemed to dance off his skin. Nothing he had ever seen before compared to the creature before him now.

“You will stay with me in my tent and you will not attempt to leave.”

Kian turned away and went to the table. “Would you like something to eat or drink?”

Erestor shook his head when his captor looked at him once more.

“You’re probably wondering why I don’t think you’ll try to escape? Yes?” Kian asked with a glass of red wine in his hand. “Simple, I have the other elf held away from you. If you leave in the night I will kill him and I will guarantee his death will be slow and full of agony. That elf is under heavy guard, you will never be able to slip my from tent and get to his and free him without being detected. Now, sit down, you will be here for quite a while I should think.”

The advisor numbly sat on a soft chair. He could never live with himself if Glorfindel was killed because of him and self-doubt was enough to stop him in him tracks.

“You will stay with me, elf.” Kian stated as he looked over Erestor’s body like a predator looking at his prey.

Erestor lowered his head with resignation.

He was trapped.
