This is work of fiction! I do not know the celebrity(ies) I am writing about, and I do not profit from these writings.
Frame and Match
PLAYING THE GAME
RATING: NC-17
PAIRINGS: Paul Hunter/Elijah Wood, insinuated Matthew Stevens/Dominic Monaghan.
DISCLAIMER: This is *fiction*, i.e. it’s not real. As far as I’m aware, Elijah and Dominic have never even met these guys, let alone anything else. It’s pure fantasy.
AUTHOR’S NOTES: Yes, I know this is pretty far fetched, but hey – a bunny is a bunny! In case you’re wondering, Paul Hunter, Matthew Stevens, Mark Williams and Steve Davis are all snooker players.
Thanks have to go to Laura (my wonderfully mad email friend) for putting this picture in my head in the first place and for helping me to come up with some of the ideas.
*These* show the stuff that’s being said from a phone line (i.e. most of what Matthew says, up until the bit at the end)
PART FOUR – FRAME AND MATCH
The next morning, Paul woke up early. He turned over and smiled as he saw Elijah still fast asleep next to him, a serene look on his face. The blond couldn’t resist reaching out and stroking his boyfriend’s hair. It was clear that, for Elijah at least, everything was fine.
Sighing, Paul forced himself to get out of bed. He continued to glance at Elijah while he pulled on some clean boxers. Still Elijah showed no signs of waking.
As he walked downstairs, Paul saw the light on his answer machine flashing. He realised it must have been from when he and Elijah had gone to “clean up”. They hadn’t made it back downstairs after that, so they had had no chance to notice it sooner.
Paul rewound the tape in the machine and then pressed Play. The voice that spoke was instantly recognisable.
*"Hey Paul, it’s Matthew. I’ve held out for a month now, but I can’t deal with you ignoring me anymore. I really didn’t mean to upset you, you know I’d never set you up to get hurt. Please call me so we can talk about this.”*
As he listened to the message, the blond felt any remaining hate melt away. Okay, so Matthew could have just spoken to him. But then huld uld never have met Elijah, and that had turned out to be one of the best things to happen to him. He picked up the phone and dialled the number. After a couple of rings, someone picked up.
*“Hello?”*
Taking a deep breath, Paul replied, “Hey Matthew? It’s Paul.”
*“Paul, hi! I tried phoning you last night, but-”*
“I know. I got the message this morning.”
There was a pause at the other end of the line.
*“This morning? How come it took you so long?”*
“Well…I was kinda distracted…” Paul looked up to see a very sleepy looking Elijah walk down the stairs. He smiled as the American came up to him, clearly wanting Paul to hold him. The blond kissed Elijah on the head before speaking again. “I didn’t hear you phone.”
*“I see.”* Pause. *“Is someone there with you?”*
“Yeah.” Paul nuzzled Elijah as he said this. The actor smiled at him.
*“There is? Who?”*
Paul grinned as he said, “I’ll give you a clue. Small, dark-haired American who’s a lot less innocent than he looks.” The blond noticed Elijah blush a little at this.
*“Okay Paul, that fourth bit is what we call too much information!”* Matthew laughed. *“So you two are speaking then?”*
Paul rolled his eyes. “No Matthew, I make a habit of having sex with people I don’t get on with.”
Elijah couldn’t help but giggle at this. At the other end of the phone, Matthew grinned. *“Is he meant to let us know he’s there? Cos if he’s trying not to be noticed, he’s not doing the best job of it.”*
Paul couldn’t resist. “I don’t know, Matthew. Compared to last night, this is quiet.” He smiled as he felt Elijah bury his head against his shouldn emn embarrassment.
*“Okay, again that’s far more than I needed to know.”* Matthew paused. *“Although thinking about it, he is rather cute...”*
*“Hey!”*
As a second voice cut in, Paul smiled. “Seems I’m not the only one with company.”
*“Yeah well, don’t think you’re getting any gory details! Some of us like to keep our private stuff private.”*
Paul laughed. “Fair enough. I wasn’t going to ask.” Then, taking a more serious tone he said, “I’m sorry, Matthew.”
*“It’s okay, Paul. I understand why you reacted like you did. But you have to believe, we had your best interests at heart.”*
“I understand that now.” Paul looked down again at Elijah, who was gazing at him adoringly. “And I guess I should thank you really.”
*“No problem mate. Now go on you, go and see to Mr Wood. I’ll see you soon.”*
“Okay. Bye Matthew.”
As Paul hung up, Elijah smiled at him. “I’m glad you made up with him.”
“Well, after yesterday I kind of had to really, didn’t I?” Paul gently guided Elijah towards the kitchen. “But I never realised he was as well.”
Elijah nodded. “I think that’s how he knew. Maybe that’s why he couldn’t speak to you; in case you thought he was coming on to you.”
“You may well be right. Wonder who that was with him, though.”
Elijah couldn’t help but grin as he replied, “That was Dom.”
~*MS*~~*DM*~
Matthew placed the phone back on the stand before rolling over again in bed. “Looks like everything turned out alright then.”
Dominic nodded. “Although I could resent the remark about Elijah being cute.”
“Not jealous are you?” Matthew teased. “Besides, I’d have to get him away from Paul first.”
“How long do you give it until they emerge from the house?”
“Well let’s just say, I wouldn’t bank on seeing them today. From the sounds of it, they’re just getting to know each other.” Matthew raised a pointed eyebrow at his boyfriend.
Dom sighed happily. “Ah yes, I remember that stage. The “I can’t go for more than two seconds without touching you” phase.”
“They’ll get over it.” Matthew ran his fingers down Dom’s arm. “They’ll soon realise that they can survive apart.”
“They’re allowed the early phase though,” Dom returned. “I mean, Paul’s new to it all full stop, and Lij has been single for long enough.” The actor grinned. “Besides, I dare say they deserve to be happy after the last three weeks.”
“So you still think I did the right thing?”
“Definitely.” Dom kissed his boyfriend briefly. “Paul couldn’t hope for anyone better than Elijah. Especially with us two being taken.”
Matthew smiled. “We don’t have to be anywhere anytime soon, do we?”
Dom shook his head, knowing where this was leading. “Maybe we should follow Paul and Elijah’s lead? Daylight will be there tomorrow.”
“Sounds good.” Matthew kissed his lover, tracing a path down his chest with his fingers. “I’ve made up with my friend and I get to spend all day here with you. I can’t think of anything better.”
Dom pulled Matthew closer to him as he whispered, “Me neither.”
