Chapter 4

And once again the poem is by the Scarlet Faerie and it's called 'I was dancing'

Part 4

***** Falling... I am falling, Into oblivion with you ******

"What about this one?" Haldir asked. G'lia looked up at the pale violet dress he held in his hands, a disgusted look came over her face and she shook her head. Haldir suppressed a sigh of exasperation, it had been a few weeks since he had brought her to Lorien, and her wounds were healing well, her physical wounds, that is. Her mind would take a lot longer to heal, most nights she still woke screaming in terror.

"What would you like to wear?" He asked. She paused for a moment wondering if he would let her get what she wanted, then she pulled a garment loose from the pile next to her and held it up for his approval. He was about to tell her that most girls wore dresses and not shirts and leggings, but then he saw the look in her eyes and instead he nodded.

"Okay, let us go and find out if they have it in your size" he said. He walked back to the front of the shop, G'lia following close behind. The owner nodded at his request and then went to find the items that they wanted. When they stepped outside carrying the packages of clothes, he looked back at her as she tried to keep up with his long stride and slowed his pace somewhat to allow her to catch up with him. As they got nearer his talon, he saw Orophin approaching from the far side, he saw G'lias face light up and he knew that she liked both of his brothers. He handed over his packages to the other elf as he joined them.

"I must go and mCeleCeleborn and Galadriel, e said. He saw G'lia stiffen imperceptibly at his words.

"You're leaving?" She said quietly. He glanced at Orophin, not quite understanding the reason for her distress, Orophin just shrugged.

"Yes, they have asked to talk to me. I will return as soon as I am finished talking to them," he said.

"You promise?" She asked. Inwardly he sighed; he should have realized that was what she was afraid of. He knelt in front of her and put his hands on her shoulders.

"Yes, I promise. I will not leave you, G'lia," he said. After a moment she nodded and he stood up again.

"Alright. Look after her brother," the last part was murmured so only Orophin could hear him. Orophin raised one eyebrow as if surprised his brother would think he would have done anything less. As soon as Haldir left them, Orophin turned his eyes on G'lia, she was watching Haldirs retreating back, and then she looked back at him.

"He does not like me," she whispered. Orophin shook his head.

"What makes you think that, little one?" He asked. She frowned in thought for a moment.

"I do not know, but he always seems to be angry when he looks at me," she asked.

"I cannot say his name right yet, he gets angry then as well,"

"That is not why he gets angry. He has other things on his mind, that is all," he smiled down at her. She stared up am anm and then slowly shook her head.

"But he must be, he must hate me.as much as I hate myself," she whispered the last part, almost in despair. Orophin knelt in front of her, in the same place Haldir had been moments before. He lifted her chin up until he looked her in the eye.

"It is not your fault. He does not hate you, never think that. He loves you," he saw her face change and k new that the wall she had been hiding behind was beginning to crumble away, she looked away from him, her chin trembling and tears running down her face. She shook her head again.

"You do not understand," she looked back at him again, afraid of the judgment she might see in his eyes, but there was none; he waited for her to continue.

"Elessar said that there were orcs near us, and Mama told me to keep quiet so that they wouldn't hear us. I tried, but there were a lot of twigs on the ground and I stepped on them and they cracked loudly. It was me the orcs heard," she cried even harder. As Orophin moved closer to her, gathering her into his arms.

"When I go to sleep at night I see them, I can feel them hurting me.and I deserved it. But then Mama and Elessar tell me that it was my fault and they're right. I should be the one dead and not them," she hiccupped softly against his shoulder. Orophin felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up to see Haldir standing over them. His brother had obviously heard every word G'lia had said, for there was a look in his eyes that Orophin had never seen before. Noticing his distraction, G'lia too looked up.

"It is not your fault, selde. They would have found you anyway it was just a matter of time." Haldir said. He had seen the area around where the orcs had been and he spoke the truth. Orophin stepped back from her, letting Haldir take over. She looked a little suspicious as if not sure whether to believe him or not.

"But they are dead because of me, if it is not my fault then why are they dead?"

"No, they are dead because of orcs. There was nothing you could have done," finally she nodded but she still looked a little uncertain.

"What matters is what we have done, not what we think we should have done," She looked a little confused by this statement.

"You will understand what I mean when the time is right; come let us put your clothes away and start dinner. Rumil is coming and you know how much he eats," he said. She giggled at that, and put her hand in his as he walked into the talon, G'lia skipping along beside him. Suddenly she stopped and Haldir looked down at her.

"What is wrong?" He asked.

"Did you mean to call me selde?" He looked surprised; he had not realized that he had indeed called her that. But on reflection the words had come from his heart and had been truly meant.

"Yes, and you may call me Ada if you wish," he almost melted inside when she smiled up at him, showing him all the innocence that should have been hers all along.

"Good cos I can't say your name right yet," she stopped again and looked up at him again.

"Can I call Rumil and Orophin Uncle, Ada?" She asked. He thought of the looks on his brothers faces when she called them that and smiled to himself.

"Of course,"
