Chapter 38

I awoke with a pain in my head to match the dull ache in my side. It was hard to focus on anything, but the first thing I recognized was a brown head lying on my stomach. I starred at it; it was out of place here. I ran my hand through his hair, and was pleased to see him jerk up and gasp. "Hi." I whispered to him.

"Hi." He whispered back.

"What are you doing here? I thought you weren't going to be back for a few more weeks."

"Awe hun, you know I'd not be able to stay away when I heard about this." He kissed my nose and smiled. "Why do we always meet in a hospital room?"

"It's very romantic, me, bed, and lightweight nightgown." I smiled, but coughed and grimaced in pain. "What happened?"

"That creep caught you with the blade. It missed all of your organs, and you'll be fine." He grinned, "Now we're getting off the subject...you, bed, lightweight nightgown..."

"Elijah!" I laughed. It hurt to laugh, but great to see him smiling at me again. "Oh my God! Dom and Billy! Where are they?" I tried to sit up, but it hurt to move.

"I'm fine hun, right here with you." Dom said standing up and walking to my bed. "I phoned the ambulance that brought you here." His grin was forced, I could see that.

"Billy." I stated flatly. Dom walked over to the curtain that divided the room and pulled it aside to reveal Billy in a hospital bed. He was asleep, and had fair more machines than I did. I blinked back tears as I watched the pump on his oxygen rise and fall. "Is he going to be okay?"

"The wanker got him in the lung, they had to operate on him to repair it. But don't let the oxygen mask scare you, it's just temporary until his lungs are stronger again. He's not in life support, and he can breathe on his own." Elijah reassured me.

"Yeah, those Scots are tough as nails." Dom pointed out. "Don't let the skirts fool you." He smiled.

"They're called Kilts ye daft wanker." A voice said softly.
