CH 38~Titles and unhappiness!
Everyone at the celebration stopped talking as all eyes were fixed on Orlando and Legolas because they had something to share.
“As you all know, my brother and I have decided to settle down. I would like you all to bear witness, please meet my companion, Princess Jenny Greenleaf.” Legolas stated.
All eyes were now focused on Jenny as she stood up to wave at the People of Mirkwood. She loved the attention and being introduced as Legolas’s wife.
Chrissy’s thoughts, “I don’t like this…being the center of attention.”
Chrissy eyes glared over at Orlando as she knew what he was about to do. She could not disappoint him and call him out as he would think she did not care.
She whispered, “Make it a quick announcement. I am not feeling well.”
Orlando thought it was strange that she whispered into his hear what she did but nonetheless he did as she requested.
“All in Mirkwood please meet Princess Chrissy Greenleaf, my wife and companion. As you can see, we are to bear forth a child soon.” Orlando stated happily.
Chrissy stood up and smiled as she waved at all of Mirkwood. She did not like being flaunted around like some piece of meat! This was not her at all and when this was her long ago, she hated the title ‘Princess’. But she played it off like it did not bother her at all.
King Thranduil had a ceremony for the dead that lost there lives fighting to keep the lands free from evil. Everyone sat in silence for a moment and then the festivities began.
Chrissy watched how Orlando made his way around the room as he spoke with all the Queens and Kings with such manner and grace. Yet, he was happy being a Prince, just as Legolas was, they were spoiled rotten by there father, King Thranduil. He displayed them as if they were his trophies or Gods.
She thought, “Am I just to be thrown into the backseat while Orlando full fills his duties? Is this what my life will become? Just a Princess…who waits on her husband to acknowledge her existence and never be able to just have his attention? I do not want this…maybe a few years ago…I could have dealt with it…but now…NO…this is not me.”
Jenny was waiting on Legolas to return from greeting his guest and noticed Chrissy sitting at a nearby table. Her thoughts could be seen all a million miles away as if it was written all over her face. And if you knew her inside and out like Jenny did, you knew something was not right. She walked over to see what was wrong with her and why the deep thoughts.
Jenny asked, “Is there something the matter?”
Chrissy did not tell the truth as she looked down, “No, everything is fine. I am just tired”
She knew better, “No, you are not happy. I see it in your eyes. Tell me what cannot be better than this?” Jenny asked.
“You like being a Princess and being shown off as Legolas’s wife but me…I just like being…without titles and the way it used to be…What is wrong with me…I was born into this lifestyle…and now I wish things were different…” Chrissy said with a heavy heart.
Jenny processed everything her friend had told her and tried to find the perfect words to help her through this. But in her heart, it was not her place to give her friend advice and she would have to tell Orlando what was on her mind.
“Chrissy, maybe you need to share this with Orlando…I do not think advice from me is what you need…Go and talk with him…Orlando is very understanding…besides…he is crazy about you…and would do anything for you.” Jenny stated with a smile.
Later that evening, Orlando wondered why she did not like being introduced as his wife.
“Chrissy, why did you ask me to make our announcement short?” Orlando asked with worry.
She stopped to look at him, “To be honest, I dislike titles and being branded like someone’s property. On the other hand, I have to accept that is who I am...and acknowledge that I chose to take on this lifestyle…But, I do not like being a Princess…I know its part of who I am but it does not make me happy.”
Orlando was shocked to hear that she did not like being royalty. He just stared at her for a moment hoping that what he was hearing was not true.
His eyes darkened, “Do you not wish to be my wife and companion who part takes my last name?” Orlando stated rather angry.
Chrissy tried to find the words, “I love having your last name and being your wife is wonderful but I do not like being a Princess or of Royalty. You mean everything to me…our child means everything to me…but a title does not.”
Orlando could not understand why his companion did like being a Princess. He saw how her friend, Jenny, loved being a Princess and pampered by servants.
His angry over took him as he yelled, “Why does Jenny love it so much and you hate it? Do you regret binding yourself to me? Why can you not just be happy?”
Chrissy’s eyes were full of angry, “How dare you compare me to my friend! Jenny loves being the center of attention and having herself flaunted by Legolas. Why you ask? Because when we lived back in our other time…her foster parents made her work for every last cent she had and spent every thing she made. They never let her use the money she earned…Now that she has money she is going to do the things she could not…Now let me tell you about me? I use to love money…spent it everyday…shopped till I dropped…then a horrible thing happened…my foster parents die…with out a will…they left me with nothing…since I was not blood related…I could not have a cent of it…I was throw out of my home and into the real world…I asked…what is a job…I was spoiled…until someone taught me what it was like to work…then I had to learn the hard way what it was like to earn everything the way Jenny did…I had learn what it was like to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for days…I had to go out and get a job…learn what it was like to say No to spending…and hello to paying the rent…So I ask you now, spoiled Prince…you try trading places with one of your workers or village folks for one day…you will see what it is like to want…But the real question is…could you ever go back to your life style? (She paused for a moment as she began to point at him) How could you ask me such a question…if I regret binding myself to you…that was the happiest day of my life when I did this act with you…” Sadness rained across her face.
Orlando soaked in everything she said about being rich one day and the next being left nothing. She had called him spoiled and knew that if his Uncle did not take him in the way he did so generously, then he would have been left nothing and it would have been a horrible life.
He wished now that he did not ask that question and tried to smooth things over with Chrissy.
“I did not know all of this, Chrissy. I am sorry for making you raise your voice. Let us not fight.” Orlando stated apologetically.
“Let us not fight? Are you trying to candy coat this? Orlando, you are very self-centered. I am going to sleep in one of the many bedrooms here.” Chrissy stomped away mad as the door slammed.
He thought, “What is candy coat? I guess it means I was trying to sweeten our conversation by ending…what was that noise? What if she has fallen?”
As she was making her way down the hall, a pain hit her stomach and she fell to the ground. It had hit her so hard it knocked the wind right out of her body. She was in so much pain that she just laid there, hoping anyone would come to her aid.
“As you all know, my brother and I have decided to settle down. I would like you all to bear witness, please meet my companion, Princess Jenny Greenleaf.” Legolas stated.
