Chapter 35
Disclaimer: Elves are not mine, but Tolkien's.
A? N: Here is one more. Would have posted it earlier but I was a bit hrm, occupied. Hope y'all like it.
Ps, This chapter doesn't explain a lot about Glorfindel's past relationship with Theodred, but I will get to it later. And Arthon is causing havoc in this chapter, hehe. Sorry, but I consider him a bearer of the bad news.
~*~*~*~*~*~
"Tell me my friend; why is your face glowing this morning. What joy does your heart sing?" Huor squeezed Erestor's shoulder and he smiled at his friend, realizing for the first time that his friend was glowing, because he was deeply in love.
"Oh, why. Is this joy so visible on my face?" Erestor turned to his friend and he explored the face of the other elf, finding in there the same joy he himself was spreading.
"Although." Erestor added. "I have to ask you the same. Hmmm, which elf had broken through your fences, Huor. I see on your face the same happiness, and I must say it's very surprising."
Erestor asked in a teasing voice and Huor sighed as he remembered the last night's events.
"That elf is Semar, but my heart spreads a different joy from yours. I have only bedded my lover, but I have not yet come to confess the deepness of my feelings." Huor said in a soft voice and Erestor nodded in understanding.
"So, Tell me. How do you feel this morning, my friend? Has your wound healed completely?" Erestor kindly smiled at his friend, while he asked him that question.
"I swear I had feared for your welfare, during those days you have spend healing, and I must excuse myself for not being there for you when you needed me the most."
Erestor's voice was lowered in shame and Huor just waved it off.
"Nay, Erestor. Do not apologize. You have already bonded yourself to Glorfindel and your strength was wisely spent, as you lingered by his side. He is your husband and you needed to be with him. I don't hold grudge against you, at all."
Huor patted the other elf's shoulder and they started walking once again.
"You are a good friend, Huor." Erestor whispered and he sighed as the morning air refreshed his senses.
"So tell me, is today the day when the company from the Western Mirkwood would be arriving at Rivendell. This will be a most interesting day, indeed." Huor said in a teasing voice.
Erestor chuckled at his friends word's and he shuddered as the feeling that something was missing within him, seized his very being.
He knew that he shouldn't linger away for far to long from his husband's side, but spending time with his friend had made him feel good and care free.
"Yes, they are supposed to cross our borders today." Erestor said softly.
"Hrm Huor, we should really try and imagine our Lord's wedding day. We shall all experience our Lord's wrath, because the contract he is bonded to, he cannot escape." Erestor softly said and he bit his lip, as the grin occupied his face.
Huor laughed and he scratched his head in the deep thought.
"He is marrying, Arthon. Oh Gods, don't get me wrong but I really despise your cousin, Erestor." Huor grinned and Erestor shook his head, as their morning walk took them to the library.
"I know that everybody hates him, but I really think that he will be good for our Lord. I don't know how, but I can feel it." Erestor chuckled again and Huor's brow furrowed in the silent question.
"Well, maybe he will be a good Lord to us all, Valar forbid, but I cannot possibly see those two as the match. It's foul thing, to imagine them as the married couple." Huor shuddered as the thought of those two dominating each other in the bed, had made his stomach turn upside down.
"Maybe, you are not seeing something that is hidden deeply inside of them. Trust me, they are well-matched." Erestor winked and Huor was confused by his friend's words. He wondered what secret could be hidden between the two Lord's and he knew that his friend was keeping something from him.
"Speaking of hidden things, Erestor; where is your husband this morning. I thought you were not to leave him alone for a while, or your bond might grow weak."
Huor wondered and Erestor shook his head as the playful voice rang through the air.
"I don't think my husband is getting any weaker, right now. I think he is stuffing his face with the Ardalia's chicken pies, and he's strength is being tested, as he is being chased away from the kitchen grounds."
Huor laughed and he came to sit beside the main desk in the library; waiting for Erestor to occupy the other chair.
"Indeed, you two may be a strangest pair that I have ever known, but *strange* can sometimes be a good thing." Huor said and his eyes followed his friend, as he took the book from the shelf located above him.
"I cannot believe that I am bonded to him. Is this really happening?"
Erestor's dreamy face clouded his sight, that he didn't see his cousin Arthon coming through the Library's entrance.
"Keep you dreams and your husband on the tight leash, Erestor. Your worst nightmare had already arrived at your door." Erestor's head had snapped forward, and he met his cousin at the door of the library.
Arthon's voice was cold and Erestor wondered why was Arthon saying those things to him. What nightmare was coming? What if something was going amiss? Erestor's mind was whirling around these questions as he tried to utter a reply.
"What are you talking about, Arthon." Huor was the first one to ask this question and Arthon's eyes were surprised as he encountered the other elf, who was addressing him.
"Who the hell are you?" Arthon asked with the rude tone and his eyes flashed a warning light as they searched for a signs of danger in the other elf. Erestor gazed at them both, but the words his cousin had said, weighed openly upon his soul.
"Ai, for Valar's sake what is wrong. Why are you saying these things, Arthon?" Erestor was on the verge of his patience and he wanted to know what news Arthon was bringing.
"Because Erestor." Arthon glared at the strange elf sitting at the table, and he proceeded only when the other one had averted his gaze from his sight.
"Glorfindel had greeted a party from Rohan this morning, and I must say that he was a little more than friendly with the Prince of Rohan. I saw them hastening away together, shoulder by shoulder, eyes holding the same affection that is usually shared between a two lovers. I am telling you this, because my mind has set this warning, and I am advising you to go and find your husband before it gets too late."
Erestor's gaze had dropped down to the ground and the hope he was holding for himself and his husband had withered away. Why was Glorfindel acting familiar with the Prince of Rohan?
This uneasy feeling he sensed this morning had captured his mind, and he was being drowned in this sudden sorrow, as the suspicion deeply gnawed upon him.
/What is going on?/ His mind was asking this question, but the jealousy and confusion ruled over his mind.
Erestor's alarmed expression was visible upon his face and Arthon came closer to his cousin, as the eyes filled with anguish had greeted him.
"Look, I am just saying that something might be suspicious with those two. Nothing is yet lost, Erestor. Go to your bonded, and stay with him. Do not allow some stranger to take away something which is only yours."
"Shut you mouth, Arthon. Don't you see, you are scaring him." Huor stood up and he quickly came to his friend's side.
"And who might you be." Arthon's eyes scanned through him, but Huor ignored the other elf, as his concern only lay with his pale faced friend.
"I am called Huor, and I am sure that once upon a time you used to know me, before your memory had slipped away. Why are you telling him those foul things? I am sure that Glorfindel's acquaintance with the young Prince is a harmless one."
Huor tried to mend the situation, Arthon's big tongue had caused and threateningly he glared at the raven haired Lord.
Erestor suddenly felt so dizzy, and his lightheadedness had caused a worry from the both elves.
Arthon took him by the shoulders and slowly he moved his cousin to the chair, cursing himself for provoking this pain in his younger cousin.
"Arthon, could you go and find Glorfindel. I don't think that they should be separated for this long, and I think that their bond is being severed right now." Arthon growled at the other elf, not sure if he should leave his cousin so easily.
"Why me, why don't you go Huor or whatever your name is." Arthon's voice was a cold one, and his eyes came upon his distressed cousin, hoping he had not damaged the others chances to make this bond through.
"Because you are the one who had brought these suspicions to him, and YOU should go and find his husband." Huor's hands massaged Erestor's shoulders and he was worried because Erestor had remained silent through all this.
"All right, I will go." Arthon said and with one more glance he hastened away to search for Glorfindel.
Huor had tried his best to provoke some kind of the reaction from his friend, but all he could see was a deathly pale face and the lost hope in those dark brown eyes.
~*~*~*~*~*
Cursing his own stupidity, Arthon had made his way toward the Glorfindel's study, and he hoped that the directions he got from the servant, would not get him lost on the way.
"I will kill Glorfindel and that Princeling if they hurt my cousin, but being the idiot as I am, I have done some damage myself. Why do I always run my mouth, when I shouldn't do so?"
Arthon was so lost talking with himself, that he didn't notice a few elves giving him a strange eye and on the left side of the path stood his future husband who was wondering if the other elf had somehow lost his wit.
"Arthon, who are you talking to." Elrond called for the passing elf, but the other one just ignored him, as his form disappeared around the corner.
Elrond's curiosity was awoken and he started following the other elf, leaving some distance between them.
He gulped when he saw his husband entering the Glorfindel's study, and he knew that this wasn't a good thing at all.
Arthon couldn't stand Glorfindel, and Elrond knew that he will have some trouble with those two today.
"You idiot, you are here talking with that human and your husband is suffering from some kind of sickness. What kind of husband are you, that you cannot feel the pain of your bonded." Elrond heard the Arthon's angry voice, and he hurried up to see what's happening inside.
"Arthon, what is going on." Elrond asked him, but the other elf was just glaring at Glorfindel.
"Nothing, I am just being cross with this cretin over here." Arthon's hand waved toward the Glorfindel and nd snd saw a Prince Theodred sitting on the other chair.
"Erestor! Where is he? I was looking for him but I couldn't find him. Is he all right?" Glorfindel quickly stood up and with challenge he faced the furious Lord before him.
"If you looked harder, you would have found him already. Tell me, what is going on in here. Why are you spending time with this, this human, when you should be building a bond with your rightful husband? Hah, Hah?" Arthon was a stubborn one in his quest for an answer, and Glorfindel was confused as he saw all that fury directed at him.
"Now Arthon, I don't have time for any explanations. Tell me where is Erestor."
"He is in the library. Go to him and be quick about it." Glorfindel's legs were faster than the Arthon's words, and Arthon's eyes turned to the human who was quietly sitting on the chair.
Theodred felt uncomfortable under Arthon's gaze and he knew that he needed to escape this confusing situation.
He stood up from his chair and he bowed his head in a deep respect, excusing his presence as he attempted to leave Glorfindel's study.
He wanted to go back to his company, and to find a servant who would settle his party down.
"Where do you think you are going, Theoden." Arthon brushed up beside Elrond and with quickness he closed the door, preventing the young one's escape.
"Sire, my name is Theodred. The name of my father is the one you had uttered, not mine."
The youth coldly glanced upon the furious Lord, but Arthon's eyes showed the equal menace toward the youth. Elrond was caught between disbelief and confusion and in his mind he knew he had stop Arthon, from scaring this youth away.
"Theoden, Theodred, well your names don't really matter, because you are all same to me. You are after all the second born parasites. Now tell me, what business do you have with my cousin's husband."
Arthon possessive voice rang over and Elrond's voice came through, as it was fighting this air of tension around them.
"Arthon." Elrond threateningly glared at his future husband, making it known to him that he was going too far.
"Elrond, I have my reasons for this." Arthon said and he turned himself away from Elrond." Well, are you mute, young one. Answer me."
"We used to know each other, five years ago when Lord Glorfindel was visiting my father; as he was bearing a message from the Lord Elrond."
Theodred's scared eyes watched for Arthon's every move, fearing that this anger Arthon was showing may become a fatal one.
"And in what way did you know Glorfindel, Prince Theodred." Arthon's eyes flashed with a sudden danger and Elrond knew that this confrontation had to do something with Glorfindel's previous relations.
"My Lord, I cannot say it in front of the Lord Elrond. It is not proper."
The youth blushed and Arthon's face had turned a ripe red from the fury he experienced inside.
Elrond rubbed his brow and carefully he observed the Arthon's actions, fearing for the youth's life should this elf suddenly explode.
"Of course. I understand now." Arthon's dark voice suddenly broke over but his tone became softer, as he was asking a next question.
"Tell me, how old were you five years ago, young one." Arthon's expression became indifferent and the question he asked had surprised Elrond.
"I was seventeen at that time, my Lord." Arthon's fists were clenched and Elrond quickly came between those two, trying to calm the Arthon's fire, in case it was about to break out. Arthon's voice was strained as he quickly uttered a dismissal.
"You may go now Theodred, but not before you hear these words. You are young and if you appreciate your life and sanity, you will stay away from the Glorfindel.
He is bonded to my cousin, and if I catch you hanging around him, you will wish you were never born. Now Go!"
Arthon's voice was cold and heartless and without hesitation the youth had quickly disappeared.
"That son of an orc. He doesn't deserve to be bonded to my cousin. What was he thinking, getting himself involved with the human underaged Prince? Does he always think with his tight leggings?"
Arthon's voice was becoming softer and his body had surrendered as he lowered himself upon the chair.
"Arthon, what is happening around here. Why did you scare that youth? Why are you attacking Glorfindel's honor? And why do I even bother with asking these stupid questions?"
Elrond felt like he was about to pull his hairs out, and he came closer to the one that occupied the chair, as the thought of strangling his fiance became very inviting to him.
"Elrond, lower your voice. It is not fit for the one of your station to act like this. Besides, I will need you to go and check on my cousin, and see if he is doing well."
Arthon sighed and he looked up at his distressed fiance, chuckling at the other's confused face.
"Don't tell me what to do or how to act, you overstuffed baffoon." Elrond growled.
"Now stop insulting and let's away. I need to see if my cousin had regained his wellness, now that his husband is by his side." Arthon said in the cynical tone and he stood up from the chair, passing beside the angry Elrond.
"Ai, I think I have gained headache from all of this." Elrond complained, as he followed the other elf.
"Nay the headache is a thing Glorfindel will gain, as I get through him today." Arthon said under his voice, but Elrond had heard all those threatening words; shaking his head at the stubbornness shown on the Arthon's face.
