Chapter 3
Chapter Three
Orophin sat on the bench. Such quiet moments did not arise often, either within the Valley or the Golden Wood. Though he was heartily glad of the company of both realms, he treasured also the solitude.
So absorbed in his reading, he noted the presence of another only as Melpomean sat beside him.
“Lord Elrond wished me to pass on the news that the party from Lorien is delayed.” He placed his hand on Orophin’s arm as the blond elf started at the message, a thousand consequences playing across his striking features. Melpomean shook his head. “There is no cause for alarm, the lady Galadriel merely wishes to lengthen the journey somewhat.”
“How long?”
“A week, perhaps, no more than two.”
Orophin nodded. “Thank you.” There was disappointment, Orophin had longed to be united with his brother, but also some relief that he would now have more time to assist Elladan.
Melpomean rose, walking several paces before turning back, regarding Orophin carefully. Little wonder Elladan kept company with him, little wonder Elrohir felt the unity between them.
“Would you walk with me?” he asked quietly.
