Chapter 3
Sean woke up. He couldn’t tell what had disturbed his sleep because the night was quiet. A look on the clock told him it was 4:30 in the morning.
A sleepy groan escaped him and he turned around to his left. His hand reached out for Orlando but the space where he was supposed to be was empty. Where was he?
Sean rolled tired out of bed, tapping bare-footed to the door. He stood in silence for a moment, listening. But there was no sound to be heard and he walked out of the bedroom to look for the boy.
“Orlando?” Nobody answered.
Sean walked down the stairs, looking in every room on his way. The living room was deserted. The fire had burned down and only the blankets on the couch spoke of last evening’s incident.
Sean didn’t really expect to find Orlando in the kitchen but he looked anyway. Empty, like he’d thought. Sighing, he turned on the tab and filled a glass with water. He drank thirstily, facing the huge window.
The view was incredible. The two big trees in the back were covered in thick white powder. Their branches folded over the snowy yard like fingers, grabbing each other. The low fence hid nothing from the eyes.
The moon was out in the cloudless sky, standing round and full over the river. It spread its bright light over the frozen surface, running through the landscape like the Milky Way up in the starry sky.
Sean stopped short when his eyes fell on a lonely figure, moving graceful over the ice. He brought his face closer to the window and for the split of a second he saw clearly the dark Mohawk. What the hell…?
It took him only a few minutes until he was fully clothed and out of the back door, grabbing Orli’s woollen hat on the way.
The sound of Sean’s heavy boots on the snow sounded loudly through the night when he took the shortcut over the fence.
Coming closer, Sean stood still for a moment, watching his young lover skate in wide circles through the night. A smile crept over his face and he shook his head in wonder. Orlando clearly had too much energy.
He slipped while climbing down the banks of the river and landed hard on his hands and knees. Cursing fluently under his breath, he stood up again slowly. The ice was creaking and crunching under his weight but it held.
For two month now it was this cold, almost minus 15°degree, leaving your breath escape in white clouds from your mouth. Enough time for the water to be frozen solid, strong enough to carry a heavy weight. Not that Orlando was heavy at all.
The loud thud and Sean’s angry rambling had reached Orlando’s ears, who’d not been far away. Startled, he was pulled out of his thoughts. He stopped and looked back at the source of the noise.
Seeing Sean swaying on his own feet, barely keeping his balance left his mind reeling with ideas. A wicked smile, much like the one on the mountain, lighted up his beautiful face.
He started skating in Sean’s direction, going faster with every step.
Sean, who still had small problems with standing upright on the slippery surface, turned around to look out for Orlando. For a moment, he had difficulties with seeing in the dark.
He wiped a hand over his eyes to clear his view and shoo the last bit of sleep away.
Orlando used the moment to take advantage of the situation. With one last powerful push of his skates, he lunched forward and tackled Sean down. The Brit was literally lifted out of his shoes, falling heavily on his back, Orlando landing on his broad chest, knocking the air out of him.
“Hello Beautiful.” A little breathless but full of love.
Sean still tried to regain his senses but Orlando was faster. He closed the gap between them and pressed his cold lips in a passionate kiss on Sean’s mouth. His tongue gained quickly entrance and he kissed Sean in way, a man should be kissed. Like the secret to his soul lies hidden in the back of his throat.
Breaking for air, the younger man looked deep into the green oceans of Sean’s eyes, sparkling with fire in the moonlight. Orlando bent down again, touching Sean’s lips just for the briefest of moments.
“What got you out of the warm bed in the middle of the night? Coming here into the freezing cold? You need your sleep, old man.”
Sean chuckled quietly, slapping Orlando hard on the butt for the ‘old man’.
“Be nice Boy. Besides, you brought me out of bed. I’ve been concerned.”
The smile on Orlando’s face faltered.
“About what?”
The look on Sean’s face softened.
“About you.”
He reached into the pocket of his coat, pulling out what was inside.
“You forgot your hat.”
Pushing it over Orlando’s head, he pulled him into another kiss, savouring the unique taste that was Orli.
“You coming back to bed with me or do you want to skate ‘til the sun comes up?”
Orlando caressed the side of Sean’s face with his fingers, kept warm in thick gloves. Sean hissed when the cold fabric touched his skin, only to push into the hand a second later.
“I think I’d rather come to bed with you. The sun’s rising tomorrow again but who knows if you will be in my bed.”
Sean grinned.
“Oh believe me, I will.”
