Chapter 3

“Where are you going, Legolas?” Orophin managed to ask while Eluvir’s tongue explored the side of his neck and Malefinnon’s teeth attacked the tip of his ear.

“For a walk,” the youngest Prince answered curtly.

“But we walked the entire day,” Orophin protested. “If you stay, I will make it worth your while…”

With a snort and a last glance at the writhing Galadhrim, Legolas left the talan. He never cared much for Orophin, and it had a lot to do with how eagerly the guardian jumped into bed with any Elf who struck his fancy regardless of his partners’ emotions. It angered him now more than ever, because he had always thought Rúmil was different.

Disappointed, Orophin turned his attention to the other two princes. They were always a good fuck, but it was Legolas who he desired most; the one he never had.

Legolas’ heart nearly stopped when he spotted a particular stone bench beneath a flowering tree in the park. ‘This was the wrong place to come,’ he thought. But he could not turn back now. Instead, he sat down in the same spot where he sat with Rúmil a few years ago. It was on that day that, as they talked about everything from the names of the ‘Lorien birds to fighting orcs and spiders, he looked into the guardians sparkling, violet eyes and saw more than just a friend, more than just a fair face. What he did see was an Elf heted ted to give his heart to, and possibly to spend his entire immortal life with. It was there that he realized he had fallen in love with Rúmil.

As Legolas remembered that day, a single tear trickled down his cheek. During his time away from ‘Lorien, the Prince had dreamed up many possibilities of what might happen between him and Rúmil; that he would be used and then cast aside like an unwanted toy was not one of them.

“What troubles you so, Legolas?”

The Woodland Elf looked up to see Haldir as he made to sit down beside him. “Is it your brother’s wont to discard his lovers?” he asked.

The Galadhrim sighed; he was not new to such questions. “Orophin is still very young…” he started.

“I do not speak of Orophin,” said Legolas. His words came out sounding more irritated than he would have liked.

Haldir’s eyes widened with surprises. “Surely you are not accusing Rúmil of such things. He has never taken a lover…”

“Aye, he has.”

There was silence while Haldir allowed the information to sink in. He could not believe what he had just heard, even though he knew Legolas would not lie about such a thing. The guardian had a feeling he knew why Rúmil made it seem like he used the Prince. “Do you love him?”

“Aye.”

Haldir laid a comforting hand on Legolas’ shoulder. “Legolas, this may be hard for you to understand, but Rúmil would not have shared himself with you if he did not care for you. My feeling is that he is afraid of getting hurt.”

“So he chose to hurt me instead?” Legolas turned angry, sad eyes on his friend.

“It would be harder for him if…” the Prince cut Haldir off with a snort. The gently hand on his shoulder suddenly gripped his upper arm almost painfully. “Legolas, listen to me. There is something about my brother that you do not know, and it is not my place to tell you. Only he can do that; but if you knew, you would understand what he is afraid of.”

“I would never willingly cause him any pain,” said Legolas as he wondered if Haldir was right, and what the problem could possibly be.

“That could change if you knew…” Haldir trailed off.

“Nay, it would not!” the Prince yelled, “Nothing could and ever will change the way I feel about him!”

Haldir stood up and looked down at Legolas, eyes burning into the Prince’s. “Yelling at me will not change anything, pen neth. If your love is true then go seek answers from; bu; but I give you my word, if you break his already fragile heart, I WILL come after you. Do you understand?”

Legolas nodded. He felt a shiver travel up his spine at Haldir’s words, but that would not stop him. When Rúmil returned from the border he would go and talk to him.
