Sheet Lightning

Chapter three

Where is this place that we have found

The surgeon had explained that modifying the scars would never erase them completely, but for the most part her looks would be greatly improved. The result was a face-lift a woman her age, in her early thirties, should not have needed, but would give her a face much younger looking than what she should have needed. There would be some work needed on her top lip as well. Her mouth would never look the way it once had, but the twisted and puckered scar that marred her mouth would look natural, maybe even enhance the beauty her mouth had once had.

The first week or so she’d had nurses. After that she had come to depend on Liv, Miranda and other members of the cast and crew. When the swelling and bruises had gone to a more natural look, she had seemed more comfy at Sean’s house. She no longer needed someone with her constantly, but the loneliness was the worst of it. Her days and nights revolved around Sean and Billy. Sean seemed to truly enjoy taking care of her, and red relinquished his sofa to her. Sean, being a father of three girls, always seemed to know how to give her gentle guidance and the comfort she needed so badly, and Billy always knew how to make her laugh, and had an uncanny sense of what to do or say to rebuild her self-confidence.

Little by little she had told Sean, Billy, Miranda, Cate Blanchette and a few other women her story, all of the whole, ugly thing. In smaller and more muted tones, she told the tough little Scot. It wasn’t until d red realized that until he’d been raised mostly by and with women and that she understood his deep sensitively for women, yet he could be rough and rowdy with men. He had a great deal of self-confidence without arrogance.

And Sean had close relationships with both men and women and not only one; he had had three divorces and a few daughters, so Sean had plenty of experience with women…but he had always wanted a son. It seemed to Jean that above all, Sean needed to care for someone, Sean needed to be needed.

Jean knew she could never return the generosity they had shown her, She wanted to do at least some little something to show her gratitude was genuine. So she had begun to read scripts with them now, and it was during a scene she was reading with Billy while Sean critiqued Billy’s reading when suddenly Sean raised a hand for silence. Jean and Billy sat side by side on the sofa, and Sean went and knelt before the two. As usual when he moved towards her, it was with a calmness and grace that immediately put her at ease. He cupped their faces, Billy’s and Jean’s, and studied them closely with a softly muttered, “Well, I’ll be damned…”

At first she covered her face, thinking she still was somewhat disfigured, and Billy had moved her hand away with a gentle “no…no, there’s nothing wrong with your face.”

Sean had offered each a hand and led them to the bathroom and had them peer into the mirror.

“You could be brother and sister, your eyes, those same bloody gorgeous , peridot and emerald” Sean had commented to the smaller man and Jean had perused each mirrored image of the other. Billy had given her one of his unique silly faces. She had laughed back, unable not to laugh when he did this. Billy had the countenance of a chameleon, she had found, and now she deliberately imitated his silly-Billy face, and laughed yet harder at the resemblance. Sean found himself laughing as well. “Look at you two, you’re even the same height!” He had draped a long arm around each, the woman and the Scotsman. He dipped his head and gave her a somewhat gentle, almost fatherly peck on the cheek; she blushend Bnd Billy laughed.

“Just when I thought you couldn’t get any prettier!” Billy laughed. “What a sweet blush you have, Jean!”

“Well, let’s compare those, too…” Sean said, in an obvious bid to out-silly Billy. He gave Billy a peck on the cheek just as he had done to Jean, and now Billy made the silliest face yet, like that of a little boy being teased by an older brother. Billy blushed all right, but his was a bright red as he squirmed away from Sean. Now all three were laughing heartily. Billy rubbed the cheek Sean had kissed.

“Trying to rub it off?” laughed Sean.

“Nah,” Jean giggled, “He’s trying to rub it in!”

Billy laughed even harder now, and Jean was so delighted she returned a smile to Billy’s face, that face which had given her so many smiles.

So of course she had then given them both a kiss. Looking back, she could now see how it all had begun. And for whatever reason it had never dawned on her, when they went to bed that night, as they always had, she noted Billy didn’t go home. With Jean on the sofa, Billy and Sean had gone to bed together, as they had since she had all but moved in.

She thought about this and began to wonder about the nature of their relationship. She didn’t think they were gay. The two didn’t seem to be the type that would have hn thn their sexual orientations.

Could they be bisexual, maybe? Now there was a thought. As she dozed off, she imagined she’d like to be a fly on the wall in that bedroom. And on the tail of that thought, she wondered what it would be like to be in that bedroom, not as a fly, either, but in that bed with those two beautiful men…
