The Nicest Gifts

The halls of Imaldris that had once been filled with light and beauty were now filled with a palable darkness. Halls that had once been rife with laughter and music, now stood silently. Where elves had once sung and told story after story, they crept along hoping not to draw the attention of the Dark Queen. Or the presence of her Lord. Most of the fair folk had fled, and those that had remained whether out of loyalty to Rivendell or fear avoided the halls as much as possible.

Thus, Arwen was surprised to see an elvish form she didn't quite recognize standing in the halls. The darkness wrapped itself around her in a carress as she walked towards the figure, smiling at him.

"And what brings you here?" she asked, twisting ring back and forth upon it's chain absently.

"He has a gift for you," the Mouth of Sauron saiftlyftly, stepping from shadows. The darkness embraced her more tightly, swirling in visible tendrils of shadow. The elf stared at her with blank, frightened eyes and she finally recognized him as Glorfindel. One of her Father's trusted advisors.

"Glorfindel, yes? What have you brought me?" He stared at her silently, blankly and she laughed a dark velvety sound. "Mmm. Poor Glorfindel, too frightened? Well, if you do not have anything to say, do retrieve my present. I am sut wit will be pleasing."

The elf walked out of the room, seemingly unable not to comply. Arwen smiled, "No. I do not yet wish to wear it,"she whispered. The prescence surounded her further, acquiesing for the time being.

"You will enjoy my gift," the mouth intoned. "And the ring can certainly wait. I enjoy this for now."

"I am sure I will," she answered darkly.

Glorfindel returned then, carrying something large over his shoulder. He dropped it distastefully at Arwen's fate and turned to leave. "Stay," she murmured moving to inspect her gift. It gasped at she noted it was alive, human and beautiful. Red-gold hair streamed over the woman's shoulders partially covering her face. The face that was visible was pale, and slighly freckled, and very pleasant to look upon. Her clothing was covered with muck and blood, and clung to her enticing, muscular figure.

Arwen watched as the woman stood, slowly, panifully but defiantly. "I am Eowyn, niece of Theoden King, dear to the people of Rohan. They will come for me."

Arwen stared at back at her, and looked into her piercing blue eyes. "And I, pet, am Arwen, Dark Queen of Rivendell. Those who dare to come will perish."

Eowyn crossed her arms above her chest, and simply stared at Arwen in an obvious challenge.

"Oh, Glorfindel, you bring me the nicest gifts."
