When we last left Arwen and her brothers: they had just met Galadriel
----------------------
Galadriel smiled softly at her tiny granddaughter. "You look like
your mother," she said softly. That made Arwen smile a little, but
she made a whiny noise when Glorfindel attempted to pull her in front
of him and take her thumb from her mouth.
"My Lady, this is Arwen Undomiel."
The toddler shook her head. "Not uh, just Arwen." "Shh," Glorfindel
ordered sternly. Arwen frowned, but Galadriel continued to
smile. "Yes, Arwen the noble maiden of Lord Elrond. You are very
pretty."
Giggling shyly, Arwen squirmed as Glorfindel rested his hands on her
shoulders to try and keep her still. Galadriel knelt in front of her
and put a necklace around her neck. It was the Evenstar.
"Wow, I'm pretty now," Arwen whispered in awe. "Hannad lle" (thank
you). Galadriel nodded, then turned to Haldir. "Haldir, show our
guests to their rooms, they must be tired from their journey."
Hooking onto Glorfindel's leg, Arwen whimpered. She didn't want to be
alone in this big new place.
Haldir nodded, and led the way to the rooms, followed by Glorfindel
who unhooked her hands from his leg and handed her to Elrohir, who
rather reluctantly accepted her. Arwen leaned up to his ear and
whispered, "Can I sleep in your room?" She sounded so serious. "I'm
scared, it's real big."
"Sure," he said softly, patting her head to reassure her. He followed
Haldir into the room that would be given to him, and Haldmilemiled at
them both. Arwen was smiling and snuggling close to Elrohir's chest,
and she waved at Haldir.
He waved back at her and walked over to her. "You are a very
beautiful elfling," he told her. He and his brother's were part of
Celeborn and Galadriel's family. Celebrian had been their sister and
she considered them her brothers. Which made this little elfling, in
a round about way, his niece. That whole idea rather fascinated him.
"Thank you!" Arwen's giggle brought him back to reality. He nodded at
her, then looked at Elrohir seriously. "I know you may not want to
hear this....but I am very sorry for what happened to your mother. We
will all miss her."
Arwen began to cry, burying her face in Elrohir's shoulder. She began
to wail over and over again "Nana goed away! Nana goed away!"
Patting her back, Elrohir glared at Haldir. Of all the stupid things
to say in front of Arwen. "We don't want to bring her up. Please
leave."
Haldir was stunned; he hadn't expected her to start crying and he
hadn't expected Elrohir's glares and growls either. He instantly felt
bad, having obviously made a mistake. "I am deeply sorry for what I
said." Then he left the room quickly, embarrassed and ashamed of
himself.
Elrohir busied himself trying to comfort Arwen, who was now
murmuring "nana" over and over. "Shh, it's ok," he tried to say,
rocking her as he walked around the room. "Nooooo! Never ok again!
Nana gone, she not coming back NEVER" The toddler quickly grew
hysterical.
He hurriedly found Arwen's favorite doll and handed it to
her. "Here... see, she doesn't want you to cry." Arwen held the doll
tight. "Nana gived her to me" she sobbed. "Nothing be good ever
again!!"
"Please don't say that!" Elrohir nearly begged. "Something good might
happen, don't give up on everything." She shook her head no and
continued to cry.
Feeling his anger rise, Elrohir turned from her for a moment. He was
angry--he couldn't help her, their family was changing and would
never be the same, he had been in so much trouble lately. Knowing he
would lose it if he didn't leave, he hurriedly left the room.
She began to pound her little fists onto the bed, mad at whoever had
taken her nana away from her as her brother left the room......
----------------------
Keeping his head down, Elrohir ran into Galadriel.
"Oh, I'm sorry...I didn't see you." he said feeling
embarrassed. "Elrohir, is something the matter?" she asked
concerned. "No...everything is JUST fine." he said...anger heard in
his voice.
she narrowed her eyes at him and asked, "Is something the matter?"
he looked at her, "I said...nothing's wrong."
"Elrohir, you know that I can see what you are thinking...now would
you want me to call your grandfather here or would you rather tell me
yourself?" she asked hands on hips. he felt a chill run down his
spine and he hung his head. he said softly, "It's Arwen."
"What's wrong with Arwen?" "she misses our mother soooo much. Haldir
said he was sorry for what happened to her and Arwen started to
cry...me or her doll can't get her to calm down. I wish ada was
here." Elrohir said softly.
Galadriel sighed and said, "Elrohir, I know how Arwen feels. Your
great grandmother and great grandfather are living in Valinor. I
haven't seen them since I was a young Elfling. I will talk to her and
see if I can calm her down."
