Revelations

Chapter fifty-two Revelations

Thranduil frowned when he saw Valthroman running his way. The warrior had an angry and fearful expression and Thranduil mentally prepared himself for horrid news.

The warrior bowed respectfully for his king, grateful he had found him. “My King, Melpomean has tried to kill himself. I fear for the Peredhil.”
Thranduil’s eyes widened in disbelief and guilt clawed at him. He could have prevented this had he stayed with the other elf.

He closed his eyes and sighed. “We shall have to keep an eye on them and we need to get Galadriel and Celeborn here.”
Valthroman nodded. “Haldir has already contacted them, my lord, and they will undoubtedly travel swift. I shall send an escort their way.”
Thranduil smiled gratefully. “Let’s pray the Valar are on our side. Keep your eye on the twins, especially Elladan. And maybe Elvil can help you there. Orophin will have to look after Elrohir.”

He nodded. “Yes, and I’ll tell Legolas to keep Elnihir busy. His whole family will be preoccupied and distant now.” He marched away. “I will aid Erestor and keep Imladris afloat.”

Elvil paced the corridor of the healing house and his heart stopped when he saw Elladan’s lost look when the twin emerged. He rushed forward and embraced his love. “Elladan? Will he survive?”

Elladan allowed Elvil to sit them both down and he shrugged. “He’s lost a lot of blood and he has no will to fight.” He made such forceful fists his knuckles turned white. “Doesn’t he know adar needs him? Why do they always leave us?”
Elvil pulled him close and sighed. “There are some things we cannot control, Elladan, no matter how much we desire to do so.”

He looked down and frowned when he saw his medallion. After some thinking he nodded and stood, walking to the right room. Elladan looked at him, but didn’t rise. Elvil was no longer a child that needed to be kept away from such horrid images, although the need to protect and defend him was greater than ever he knew that it didn’t include this.

Elvil carefully entered the room and smiled sadly at his father.

Elrond sat at the bedside, a lost and empty expression in his eyes, wet with tears.
The healer looked on ruefully. He had done everything he could. It now was up to the elf to return. He hoped Elrond’s words had somehow reached the other elf and brought him the will to fight.

Elvil walked closer and placed his hand on Elrond’s shoulder. “Adar?”
Elrond looked at him and smiled, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “One thing after another upsets our house these days, Elvil. Why did he do it?”
Elvil shrugged. “I don’t know, but maybe this can help him?”
Seeing Elvil hold the medallion in his hands made Elrond smile, but he shook his head. “Nay, you need it yourself.”
But Elvil shook his head. “Nay, my memory has been restored and now that I know I am a reborn it can no longer aid me in any way. I merely wear it to honour my mother and father.” He smiled. “But it might be able to aid him.”

He removed it and placed it around Melpomean, uttering some ancient words.
Elrond hugged him gratefully. “I am blessed to have you here, my son.” He sighed. “Look after Elladan for me.”
Elvil grinned. “And make Orophin look after Elrohir and Legolas after Elnihir. I will.” He hugged his father tight and looked at Melpomean. “Have faith he will return to you.”

He leaned in closer and delivered a hug to the near-death elf. “And you need to have some faith in adar’s love for you. Thranduil means nothing. If you die he will follow.”
He stood and left.

/Where am I?/ He knew this wasn’t Imladris anymore, for which he was glad, but he also knew without a doubt it wasn’t Mandos.
`It isn’t your time yet. Return to your love, to your heart, your soul and your redemption. He needs you as much as you need him.`
The elf twirled around but saw nothing. “Who said that!”
`Don’t you remember me?`

Slowly someone visualised before him and he narrowed his eyes, recognizing the features, yet was unable to name them. The female smiled warmly and placed a hand on his shoulder. `You hold his heart, my child. There was a reason I brought you to him.`
Suddenly he gasped and went to his knees, remembering. “Grandmother.” He cried his tears and flung himself at her, smiling when she embraced him. She was the only elf he’s ever felt a bond with. “I missed you and I felt so lonely.”
She hugged him close. “I cannot stay here and neither can you. Elrond needs you, my child. If you do not wish to return and try for yourself, then do so for him. His heart is aching and already he’s approaching Namo’s halls.” She smiled and pressed a kiss on his forehead. “Go back and allow yourself to blossom under his care.”

Melpomean leaned forward. “I feared you’d died.”
She smiled. “I had. But a Maia is just as immortal as a Vala, you know that. I only stopped being Lorien’s aid and became Namo’s. It’s his generosity that allows us to see and speak to each other now, pen-neth.”

She tightened the hold, sensing his need. “If you do not fight and return to life but choose to walk his halls instead, you know you will be punished.”
He nodded. “I don’t care. Thranduil will reclaim his heart and I don’t want to witness that.”
She cocked her head. “You will never be allowed near the ones you love, any of them, and believe me when I say at least five will enter shortly after you. Elrond and his twins, and their lovers will perish if you do not return.”
Melpomean blinked. “The twins? Elladan? Elvil?” He refused to be responsible for their passing. They’d suffered enough.

Slowly he faded from her view. She sighed. /I did not reach him./
“Yes, you did. He only needs time to process it and now that he’s returning he will have enough of that.” Namo materialized before her and smiled. “You did well. The future smiles once again for our ailing elves.”
She grinned at his words. “Thank you for this meeting.”
Namo shrugged. “We will go back often and watch them. Come, let us go.”

Erestor looked at Thrilmaldur when the door suddenly opened and revealed Thranduil.
The Mirkwood elf smiled at the two counsellors. “Valthroman told me what happened. I am here to help, and no, Erestor, I will not be send away.”
Thrilmaldur chuckled at the words.

Legolas smiled and led his little friend to his rooms. “I know Elrond didn’t state a bed-time, Elnihir, but I do want you rested tomorrow. We are going to practise some more.” He smiled and wiggled his eyebrows. “Besides, I am getting rather tired myself.”
Elnihir grinned and jumped up; he liked it when Legolas carried him. “But you will tell me a tale?”
Legolas grinned. “I’m afraid I’m out of tales, but I do not mind retelling one, or better yet, listen to one of yours.”

He frowned when he saw Haldir march towards him. “Haldir, man raica?” He swiftly told him to speak Sindarin, knowing Elnihir did not understand that.
Haldir sighed. He had to be careful and leave out names. “This lord’s secretary tried to kill himself. There’s no telling what will happen. The twins are looked after but they want someone to…” Haldir bit his lip. How was he going to continue without giving names?
But Legolas understood and nodded. “I’ll keep my eye on him. Let me know what happens.”
Haldir nodded and smiled. “I’ve contacted Galadriel and Celeborn, they’ll be here soon. And before I forget, your father is temporarily ruling.”
Legolas laughed freely. “He’ll like that. He’s never been one for idleness. Take care, Haldir.”
He waited for the other to be gone before he entered his room.

Elnihir pouted. “What did you say? You two deliberately spoke Sindarin so I wouldn’t understand. What is wrong? What is it?”
Legolas sighed and sat down. He closed his eyes. He did not wish to lie to the little one, but how could he tell him the truth. /But if Melpomean dies he’ll learn anyhow and he won’t be prepared for the doom that will happen then./ He nodded, deciding he needed to tell him in order to prepare the big blow, should the worst occur.

He pulled him close. “Aiya, Elnihir, how to tell you.” The eyes widened and dread and fear entered them. Legolas sighed. “I fear Melpomean has been injured gravely and is now fighting for his life.”
Elnihir gasped and instantly said a prayer to Elbereth to guard his friend. His mind worked swiftly. “Ata’da! He won’t leave ata’da, will he?”
Legolas shrugged. “None can say, Elnihir. He’s lost a lot of blood and I think we should prepare ourselves for his demise, though I hope and pray he’ll remain with us.” He bit his lip. “But let’s not think gloomy thoughts now. Let us hope.”
Elnihir nodded. “He’s made ata’da happy and he’s been lonely for so long. Ever since ata’s mother sailed. I want him to be happy.”
Legolas nodded and laid down on the bed, pulling Elnihir in an extremely tight embrace. He wanted to guard him and fend of any evil, but he realised this was the type of evil none could ward off.
