Possession
Chapter 28
Author: Frosty the Micro Machine
Rated: NC-17
Codes: Aragorn, Elrond, Faramir, Eowyn, Legolas, OC, AU, N/C, Oral, Anal, M/F, M/M/F, character deaths
Summary: After Arwen's death, a visit to Gondor reveals something unexpected. Canon-oriented; takes place after Sauron's defeat.
Author's Notes: Translations are in parenthesis after the Elvish.
This is the final chapter. I wanted to do the last scene in elvish, like I did with the very first scene, but I would have had a lot of difficulty translating that conversation. So y'all are outta luck. Just pretend it's in Sindarin. ;)

Valawen stood by her horse, watching Elrohir and Elladan speak with Galadriel and Celeborn. Her hand stroked the mane of the animal softly as she waited. Elrond's sons had embraced her when they arrived, but the pain on their faces had been evident. She had not cried, nor even felt the urge to. Instead, she had simply apologized to them and taken their assurances in stride. As much as it pained her to think it, it no longer mattered to her what they said or felt.
A hand touched her shoulder. She closed her eyes briefly before turning to look at Legolas. "It is time," he said, "Are you ready?"
Valawen nodded, moving her hand to clasp his. "I wish you well on your journey," she said, "I will miss you."
"And I you, but we will see each other again." His eyes turned sad as he looked over her face as though memorizing her. The next words he spoke were a barely a whisper. "Some day."
"Some day," she repeated. She looked back to the group, who now separated to move to their own horses. Elrohir nodded to her, moving her into knowledge that it was time to leave. Valawen looked up, then placed a soft kiss on the young Prince's cheek. "Good bye, Legolas."
"Good bye," he replied, stepping back.
Valawen mounted her horse and adjusted her cloak around her, then looked back down at him. There was so much she wanted to say, but her voice could not be found. His eyes told her that he felt the same way. Taking a deep breath, she kicked at her horse and followed Elladan's horse on the path out of Lorien. Unable to help herself, she looked back. Legolas watched, but made no move to stop her leaving. She wondered if she ever actually thought he would. He had been right. These were her choices now. And this was the right one.
Valawen looked ahead, closing her eyes against the brisk wind. It wouldn't be long now.

The road to the sea was taken with ease and in silence. It was a reflective time, not one filled with conversation. Valawen took the time to remember everything good that had happened in her life. There was no point in dwelling on the evils; she wouldn't spent the last days of her life filled with remorse.
They were getting close. Nearly a week had passed since she parted with Legolas, leaving him in the forests of Lothlorien to begin his own journey. That was one good thing she could concentrate on - Legolas had saved her life and given her the opportunity to begin anew. She was grateful for that, even as it threatened to overwhelm her.
Her hand skirted along the pocket of her cloak. She touched the object within and closed her eyes, comforted. Once they were out of the Shire, there would be no going back.
When Valawen opened her eyes and looked up, she saw Galadriel looking back at her. The Queen smiled softly and turned away just as Elrohir slowed his horse to ride beside Valawen. "How do you fare?" he asked.
"I am well," she replied, taking a long, deep breath. The air was clean here, empty of the impurities man placed in it. Minas Tirith had been a dusty, clouded city.
"We will arrive at the boats within a day. Will you sit with me when we sail?"
She regarded him, saddened. It amazed her how he could be so kind to her after what she had done. "Elrohir," she said, smiling faintly, "You and your brother mean so much to me. Whatever love is left in me, it belongs to you."
He reached across the space between them, squeezing her arm. "And ours to you, Valawen. It will all be better once we reach the Havens."
She nodded, then noticed Galadriel looking back at her again. The Lady's expression was unreadable. "I look forward to seeing the sea," she said softly, moving her eyes to Elrohir.
"It is a beautiful sight," he replied, "You will be happy in Valinor, Valawen. I promise."
Again, she nodded. Elrohir smiled and rode away from her towards his brother. When she checked to see if Galadriel was still looking at her, she found she wasn't. She was alone again.
Her fingers moved to her pocket. Dipping inside, they clasped onto a small phial and pulled it from the fabric. "It won't hurt," she breathed to herself as she pulled the stopper, "No longer."
Valawen looked up and hesitated bringing the small bottle to her lips. Elrohir and Elladan were smiling at each other, speaking of things the wind carried away. Was she the only one who was caught in this evil that never seemed to fade? Tears pricked her eyes as she hoped that they would still be able to smile after she did this.
Closing her eyes, she drank from the phial.
The taste was bitter. Valawen dropped the bottle to the earth and looked at the four elves in front of her. None seemed to have noticed. As a stray tear fell from her eye, she felt the internal conflict that she knew would begin. All her life Valinor had been her destiny, as it was the destiny of all elves. She was now purposely keeping herself from that haven. She hoped Elrond could forgive her.
As her eyelids became heavy, she thought about how she would never observe the sea. She idly wondered what Elrond's sons would do with her body once she had passed? Would they simply bury her here, on the path to Valinor? The brightness of the world turned to dusk as she thought on Mandos. If Elrond were there, she hoped she would see him. She missed him terribly.
"Valawen? Valawen, are you alright?"
Her eyes closed even as Elladan spoke. There was the vague feeling of warm arms collecting her as her body became weak. It occured to her, though, that Aragorn had been right. There was no pain.
Somehow, just before the end, that made her feel better.
