Chapter 28: the saga continues

So Legolas..”

“Yes love?”

“We really have to start thinking about what we’re going to tell everyone once we get home as that day will come very quickly.”

“I know.” Legolas said, snuggling closer into Aragorn’s embrace.

“As I am King, the only problem is an heir, which can always be provided by a woman.” Aragorn told him, while pulling a face. “The only thing which can cause a problem is your family, or moreover your father. And we both know what he is like. He does not approve two Men falling in love, especially not his own son as you cannot provide an heir this way.”

“That is his problem, is it not? I am old enough to do whatever I want now and if he does not approve with my own decisions than I am just going to live with you. And your son or daughter can rule over Mirkwood as well, once he or she is of age.”

“It is not that simple, Legolas. If you turn your back on your father, you will turn your back on entire Mirkwood. Do you really believe that you can ever come back then? Also the human race and the Elves aren’t close enough for them to have one leader. I predict that this will cause a lot of problems.”

“I .. uh…” Legolas stammered, “I never thought about it like that. What are we going to do now? I do not want to lose you Aragorn, but I love Mirkwood and I do want to see the rest of my family again.”

“I know mellamin, so how are we going to do this?”

“Keep it a secret?” Legolas tried.

Aragorn frowned his eyebrows at this.

“Oh alright, I suppose the only thing we can do is talk to him and make him understand, which is highly unlikely of course. If this does not work, we will decided than and there what to do next, agreed?”

“Yes, I do not know what else we could possible do.” Aragorn replied yawning. “Why do we not go to sleep. I still have to teach Herbology, so it will be an early start tomorrow morning.”

Legolas rested his head on the Man’s chest as thought everything over what they had just discussed. Slowly a plan started to form inside his mind, unabling him to sleep from excitement.

>>>>>

Before dawn the next morning Legolas silently slipped out of the bed as to not to arouse his lover. He was ready to put the plan, which had kept him up all night, in motion. After quickly putting on his clothes he headed down the library. To his regret it was still closed

Hmm, what should I do now? Legolas pondered. Well I suppose there is no harm in looking whether he is awake or not. The Elf turned around and swiftly started to walk towards his intended destination. Of course he encountered no one, not even Mrs Norris or one of the ghosts. It seemed like the entire castle was still asleep.

He knocked on the door softly. Loud enough for anyone to hear, but not hard enough to actually arouse the person inside. It wasn’t even six o’clock after all.

An irritated hump could be heard from the other side of the wall. A few seconds later the door flew open to reveal an irritated looking Snape.

“What do you want?” he snapped.

“I … uh… do not know whether this is possible, or not. Because if it is, it could be very helpful to me.”

“Well spill it man, what is it?” Snape asked impatiently.

As Legolas whispered in Severus’ ear, the potions master’s eyes seemed to bulge a little and his mouth fell open unflattering. If it had not been for his blindness, one could have seen a fascinated glint in his eyes. “Are you sure about this? I mean I have heard of this procedure, but that’s it. I don’t even know if anyone has been able to make the potion, let alone stand correctly. Come back this evening, I will have more information then.”

“Thank you, Severus. I truly appreciate this.”

“Do not thank me yet. I might not be able to help you.”

“You are at least trying.” Legolas said smiling. “See you at breakfast.”

“No, you won’t.”

Legolas turned around by the door, frowning: “You do not have to put all your time into this.”

“It has absolutely nothing to do with that.”

“Oh, uhm well bye then.”

Severus sighed as he sank down in his favourite armchair, putting his head in his hands. He was tired, both mentally and physically. His blindness was not helping him in the slightest. Thankfully there were a lot of useful spells, which he could use in his search for information. Why did people always turn to him for help, while he himself had no one to turn to?

Whose fault is that, ey? He thought bitterly.

He rose from his chair, gently walking to his bookshelves. “Desiderat hominess conceptio” he mumbled, while pointing his wand towards his books. Promptly four books came flying towards him, hitting him in the chest before falling onto the flour. Severus let out a frustrated sigh, before bending over and picking up the books, which had either fallen onto his feet or in their proximity.

Neatly he placed one book next to the other on his desk. He placed his wand-hand on the first book and whispered: “Recito capitulumt.”

Legolas happily skidded back towards Aragorn’s bedroom. Upon arriving there he realised to his misfortune that Aragorn was already awake and waiting for him. “Where were you off to?”

“Nowhere, I just wanted to stretch my legs for a bit. I think that unicorn milk is still bothering me.” He only partly lied.

“I see.” Estel said thoughtfully, pulling the Elf playfully on the bed.

As Legolas lay on top of the man, he looked him into his eyes lovingly. “Everything is going to be fine.” He whispered in his ear, before kissing him softly. They lay comfortable in each others arms for a while, letting their hands explore each others bodies.

“I believe we should better go and have some breakfast.” Estel suggested, after a while, his belly agreeing loudly.

Indeed when they arrived at breakfast, Severus was nowhere to be seen. Legolas spotted Remus looking around sadly, before turning his gaze to the plate in front of him.

The Elf wondered if everything would ever turn out right for them. He certainly hoped so. It was a pity to see love like that go to waste. Because love actually is all you need.

Once they had finished their breakfast Albus approached them, “Gentlemen, could you please come and see me in my office in five minutes?”

“Of course Albus.” They replied.

“He probably wants to know when we will want to leave.” Legolas sighed.

“The sooner, the better, I suppose.” Aragorn remarked.

“Really? I am actually getting kind of font of this place.”

Aragorn looked at him strangely: “Are you serious? I thought you wanted to leave as badly as I do. It is not that I do not like it here. It is just that I miss my friends and well.. our world. It is so completely different form this one. Or are you just afraid to go home and face your father and family?”

“Of course not, as that day will come sooner or later anyway. Besides the time travels much quicker here so a week more or less would not matter now would it?”

“I guess it would not, but why are you so intend on staying a little longer?”

“I only want to say goodbye to everyone properly, that is all.”

Estel frowned his eyebrows, but decided to give the subject a rest for now. They both rose from the dinner table to slowly head towards Albus’ office.

“Welcome, if you could please take a seat over there. Thank you. Tea anyone? No? Some candy perhaps? No, alright let’s get down to business then.

You probably already know why I asked you two to come here.”

“Yes, we do.”

“Then what do you suggest?”

“We were wondering if we could stay for another week.” Legolas told him.

“But of course,” Albus replied smiling, “nothing would please me more.”

“Thank you Albus, I am glad to hear that. By the way did you speak to Galadriel?”

“As a matter of fact I did. She told me that they were all pretty concerned about you when you disappeared Aragorn, but are very happy that we found you, Legolas”

Legolas smiled happily. “Thankfully time travels a lot faster over here, so for them we will be back in no time.”

That evening Severus got up behind his desk, hating Albus for his stupid rules, as one of them said that every teacher had to be present at dinner unless they had a very good reason not to be there. Sometimes he suspected the Headmaster of making some of these rules just to tease them, or him in particular. The man was such a child for time to time. No wonder he had managed to live among these hormonal driven brats for so long.

He grabbed his wand, which he had enchanted to act as a kind of walking stick. It would indicate when an object was nearby, by pulling its owner into the opposite direction or when it considered stairs either up- or downwards. Thankfully Severus knew Hogwarts well enough, or at least his standard routes from and to the dungeon, that he could have easily found his way to the Great hall without his wand, but just to be on the safe side he had decided to take it with him after all.

He walked towards the door and cursed loudly as his wand started to pull him backwards. “It’s only a bloody door, you useless piece of shit!” he yelled, before opening the door angrily and slamming it behind him once he was through.

He still had to fix that little knickknack The problem was that he didn’t know how to bewitch his wand so that it would recognise doors that were either visible to the eye or not.

Grumbling he walked on. He could hear students snigger and talking behind his back. They were probably wondering what could have happened to him. He was sure that some wildly exaggerated rumours were spreading through the school right now.

He put on his worst scowl, while silently continuing on his way. When he entered the Great Hall a wave of silence greeted him, starting at the Head table and ending with the Gryffindors.

“Yes, yes, I’m blind! Get over it will you!” he snapped.

Some Slytherins grinned at his remark, knowing very well that they would probably hear the entire story eventually.

Most of the teachers gave him a worried glance, because well ... he really looked like hell. His already pale complex seemed to be a bit ashen grey in the candle light, which only made the dark circles around his eyes stand out more. Even his hair seemed greasier than normal, and that’s saying a lot. It was not only his psychical appearance that radiated fatigue and stress. When one would close his eyes a person could even feel his darkened mood. It was so strong that sensitive people could easily be effected by it, getting a bit down as well. But another emotion seemed to bubble at the surface, screaming to be released. Something like sadness or maybe defeat. It was hard to tell of course, as Severus’ ever remaining mask was neatly in place.

Severus also hadn’t slept at all last night and he wasn’t planning to do so for the upcoming night either.

He sat down with a humph, realizing that it was almost impossible to go through this meal without any help. He turned his head downward, wondering whether he should just forgo eating all together tonight.

“Do you need some help, Sev?”

Argh, just my luck! I have seated myself next to that annoying werewolf. Well not really annoying. No, yes he IS annoying! The mere sound of his voice or the thought of him can break my concentration of anything. He makes me think about things I don’t want to talk about and have feelings I do not want to endure. Plus I need my concentration badly, especially with being a spy and all. Wait a minute I can’t use that excuse any longer. But I do need my concentration at making potions. He remembered himself.

“Sev?”

“Uhm yes?”

“Yes please, is the correct answer Professor.” Remus teased.

“Oh shut it, will you.”

“So what would you like to have for dinner?”

“Just as long as doesn’t have any beans or peas or something in it, it’s fine with me. Those things are just disgusting.”

Remus laughed at the face he pulled. “Of course, love. I uh… Severus, I mean.

Severus cocked his eyebrows at him, but decided not to say anything as Remus quickly started to fill his plate in silence.

“Do you need me to help you with eating too?” he asked softly.

“I certainly hope not!” Severus replied with a sigh.

“You haven’t eaten yet have you?”

“No as a matter of fact I haven’t. Do you have any problems with that, Lupin?”

“Yes, actually I have. I am just concerned about your health you know, that’s all. You know I care about you Severus. My feelings even go deeper than that.”

Once again Severus remained silent, managing to eat rather decently.

When everyone was done eating, Albus motioned them all to be silent. “Good evening everyone, I have some announcements I would like to make. First of all: Legolas and Aragorn will be leaving us very shortly. Aragorn will continue teaching Herbology until his departure. Thankfully I have already found a new very skilled teacher who will take over his classes where he has left off.

Through an unfortunate accident professor Snape is now blind, but if all goes well he will be able to see better and better during these upcoming days and we’re hoping that his full eyesight has returned by next week. This also means that ‘till then his classes will be cancelled.” A round of cheers irrupted from the Hall, but Albus had them soon quiet with a stern look.

“Tomorrow professor Lupin will leave us for some personal matters he needs to sort out. He will return to us as soon as he can. I will take over his lessons for now.

On a cheerier note most of the Death Eaters are now locked up in Azkaban. I got the reports this afternoon from the ministry of Magic. They found them huddled together in a hotel room in the Netherlands. The hotel owner suspected them of having illegal sexual activities as hooded men kept coming and going. Let’s hope that this means we will have some quiet years ahead of us. That’s all for now.”

Severus turned his head towards Remus questioning.

“You heard, personal business.” The werewolf told him.

“You having personal business to attend to?” Severus sneered, trying to hide the hurt he was feeling inside. Why was he not informed about this?

“Is that so hard to believe, Severus?” the other man snapped back, before sighing deeply in fatigue, rubbing his face as he did so.

“Apparently so!”

“As Albus told you it’s a personal business I need to sort out. So please don’t make a big deal out of this. But if you’ll excuse I have something I need to discuss with Albus. I trust you will find your way back to your room?”

“Of course.”

“Okay I will see you soon, Severus. Take care of yourself.”

“This is goodbye then?” Snape asked puzzled, his anger temporarily forgotten.

“For now, yes. I don’t know when I’ll be back, but trust me you will be one of the first to know.” Remus kissed his forehead, before walking away, leaving a very confused Potions master behind. He wanted to reach out for him, take him in his arms and beg him to stay. But he did none of these things. He just stared at the plate in front of him, not daring to move in fear of cracking his indifferent mask.
