Chapter Twenty Five - Part Three
“Do you think I am so selfish that I would deny you and Elrohir time together?” Legolas asked barely raising his voice. “We have never spent time away from one another and the last four days have been more tortuous than I can tell you. I longed for your love and touches. Even a kiss would have sufficed. When I woke this morning and realized you had been together in the same bed that I was sleeping in and did not wake me, I figured all was lost. I am the elf you thought I was, Elladan. I always have been, always will be. I miss you and Elrohir. I long for your company.”
“We are here now, my Prince,” Elladan answered softly while running his fingertips along Legolas’ jaw. “We begged to be released early this day so that we could spend time with you. I know it was hard not to have us around, but don’t you think that we missed you the same? Our thoughts never drifted far from you, and many times we wanted to leave, but our new duties would not allow it. I will not regret making love to Elrohir, but I am sorry we did not wake you,” Elladan replied laying down beside the prince and pulling him into his arms. “Can’t you feel how I love you and want you even now?”
“Aye, I can,” Legolas said turning to face the elf warrior. “Kiss me, Elladan; show me.”
Elladan cupped the prince’s cheeks and kissed him softly and tenderly before pulling back to look in his azure eyes. “I love you, Legolas. Nothing will ever change that.”
“And I love you the same, Elladan,” Legolas whispered against the elf warrior’s lips before kissing him deeply.
“I hope this means we are forgiven,” Elrohir said walking in to find out what was taking so long.
Breaking their kiss, Legolas smiled as he lifted his head to look at Elrohir. “You are in fact forgiven. It was a mistake to allow myself to be upset by your love. There is, however, the matter of the days you left me alone to deal with.”
The elf knight chuckled and went to sit on the bed beside his brother. “We have already made preparations for that, my Prince. Now if you would kindly move off of my brother and get dressed, we have a feast awaiting us in the other room.”
Legolas kissed Elladan gently one last time before making his way to the wardrobe he was using for his clothes. “Will this be a formal affair or shall I dress down?”
“On second thought, let Elladan and I dress in our bathing robes to match you,” Elrohir suggested as he looked Legolas over. “It will make dinner that much more interesting. Comb out your hair, my Prince, but do not braid it. You know how I love your hair down.”
“Aye, I agree with my brother for once. Leave it down,” Elladan replied, also giving the prince an appreciative look.
“As you wish,” Legolas replied heading into the bathing chamber to comb out his hair.
Elladan and Elrohir changed into their bath robes and unbraided their own hair, combing it out with their fingers.
“We will meet you in the sitting room, my prince,” Elrohir said as he grabbed Elladan’s hand and led him out of the room.

Elrond sat in the middle of the floor in the bedroom he and Celebrian shared for several millennia. The elflord had packed his clothing and several items that he knew his lady wife cherished. Memories swept through him like visions and he wiped at the tears threatening to fall from his eyes.
“Soon we will be together, Celebrian. I hear you calling to me so plainly it sounds as if you are in the next room,” he said out loud not caring if anyone heard him speaking to his wife in Valinor. “I will sail in a fortnight and then we will be together for eternity.”
The sound of thunder approaching snapped him from his thoughts and he began to pack the many letters and scrolls he had written to her and for her into another box. These were private and only to be read by Celebrian. Love letters, mostly, but a few of them described his desperation to be with her again. There were also letters from Arwen and the twins each explaining their decisions to choose, or in Arwen’s case not to choose, to cling to elfkind. Arwen’s letter was the longest and Elrond would save it until he explained to Celebrian their only daughter’s decision.
Erestor, Glorfindel, Galadriel and Celeborn had also written letters. Each was sealed and the elflord had no idea what they had written; possibly their promises to join them as soon as their work in Arda was completed. Even Legolas had penned a letter to his future law-mother, promising to take care of her beloved sons and ensure their arrival in Valinor once they fulfilled the promise to their father. Elrond was sure the letter also contained his expressions of love for Elladan and Elrohir to ease Celebrian’s heart. Even Elrond had to admit that Legolas was the perfect match for his sons.
Moving from their bedroom, Elrond went into his private study and began to pack his personal books and scrolls. Many he would leave for Elladan and Elrohir; his sons had shown they were great healers in their own right, a fact which the elflord took great pride in.
At the ringing of the last bell, Elrond realized it was midnight, and he sighed as he became aware of the lateness of the night. He would finish his packing on the morrow, and turned to head for the bed the he shared with his lady wife, hoping dreams of her would fill his sleep.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Erestor sat at his desk transferring the information from his journal to scrolls that would serve as the official transcripts of the meetings for the last four days. He was so involved in his work that he did not notice his lover approach.
Long skilled fingers made their way inside his robe and the counselor gasped at the feeling. Dropping his pen, Erestor looked up into the dark eyes of his beloved. “Has anyone told you what a tease you are, meleth?”
The dark haired elf laughed before bending down to nuzzle Erestor’s neck. “Only you have ever called me that, Counselor. I suspect, though, that you don‘t really mind the interruption.”
“Your suspicions are correct as they always are,” Erestor answered almost purring.
“Take a break. It is late and I would have you love me before you are too tired to perform the act,” his beloved replied almost too sensually for the counselor to handle.
Erestor stood and kissed his lover with a deep pillaging kiss that left them both breathless. “Bed,” the counselor demanded and smiled as he watched his lover comply with the demand. “Prepare yourself for me.”
Erestor watched as his dark lover did just that. Pouring oil on his fingers, the elf slowly opened himself for his beloved. The counselor’s breath came in gasps as he watched his lover’s fingers move inside his body. “You look so good doing that,” he breathed stepping closer to the bed. “Prepare me,” Erestor said as a well oiled hand stroked him until he was covered with the sweet smelling oil.
Climbing atop his dark haired lover, Erestor entered him with one smooth thrust as their cries echoed through the room.
“Ai, Mel, I can never get enough of you.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Legolas entered the sitting room and gaped at all the food and desserts. “They are all my favorites!” the prince said with a pleased smile.
“Aye, and some of Erestor’s supposedly hidden wine,” Elrohir replied with a grin.
Elladan stood and pulled out a chair for the prince who took it with a smile. “It is our attempt to make up our absence over the past few days,” the elf warrior answered as he took his own seat. “Besides, there is something of great importance for us to discuss with you.”
“Yes, there is,” Elrohir agreed. “We hope that after you hear our proposal you will accept.”
“Tell me what this proposal is and I promise to think about it,” Legolas answered while looking between the two of them.
Elrohir looked at Elladan and motioned for him to continue. The elf warrior turned to the prince and took a deep breath before speaking.
“Erestor and Glorfindel have decided to stay in Imladris with us, but will no longer fulfill their roles as chief counselor or seneschal. They will be here primarily for advice and to help if we happen to need them. Elrohir will fulfill the position as seneschal, but we need a chief counselor.” Elladan paused to take a sip of wine before continuing. “Our father made a suggestion to us and the more we thought about it, the better it sounded. There is no one we trust more than you, Legolas. Your skill as a diplomat matches Erestor’s and if you would consider taking the position, we would be honored to have you serve as our chief counselor.”
Legolas was silent as he processed what Elladan had just proposed to him. He looked to Elrohir who nodded his head in agreement.
“You are well skilled in all the matters a chief counselor needs to possess,” the elf knight said, trying to encourage their beloved.
“Forgive my silence, but I am taken by surprise. I never expected to fill a role in the ruling of Imladris,” Legolas replied, choosing his words carefully. “To help you both in your endeavors would be an honor to me and a dream come true. How could I possibly turn down this proposal?”
Elrohir leapt from his chair and hugged Legolas closely while Elladan smiled from ear to ear.
“Welcome, Chief Counselor Legolas,” Elladan said raising his wine glass to his beloved. Elrohir did the same once he returned to his chair. Legolas raised his glass and touched theirs with a smile.
“Thank you, my Lord and Seneschal. A fine team we will make in public and in private,” Legolas said before taking a sip of wine.
“It is the ‘in private’ that interests me at the moment,” Elrohir answered with a grin.
“Somehow that does not surprise me, my Elf Knight,” Legolas responded with a laugh. “Can we at least finish our meal?”
“I suppose I will allow that,” Elrohir grinned. “After all, you will need your strength.”
“As will you, Elrohir,” Elladan said after winking at Legolas. “Our Prince has gone without our company for several days. I am sure his appetite is nigh insatiable.”
“All the better,” Elrohir said with a smile.
“I claim my right to be first,” Elladan announced quickly.
Elrohir growled and gave his brother a menacing look. “Why must you always go first?”
“Because, dearest brother, I am the older twin and it is my right,” Elladan chuckled.
Legolas laughed at their banter as he continued to eat during their conversation. “I will pick the position I wish to have.”
Elrohir turned his eyes to the prince in surprise. “Where does that leave me?”
“You may find yourself well surprised my, Elf Knight.” Legolas answered with a mischievous grin.
The sound of thunder in the distance caused Elladan to smile. There was nothing better to him than making love when it rained, and it looked like he was in luck tonight.

Three Weeks Later
The Havens
Elrond and the party from Imladris arrived in the Havens and no one was more relieved than the elflord himself. Tomorrow at dawn he would take the ship to Valinor and be reunited with his wife.
Glorfindel, Erestor and Thranduil had met with Elrond during the afternoon to try to cheer him some. Even knowing he would meet Celebrian, he regretted leaving his sons behind. Thoughts of Arwen always left him with feelings of loss and despair, and he worried about Celebrian’s reaction to the devastating news.
Dinner that evening was a somber affair for everyone present. Good byes had already been said and advice given to Elladan, Elrohir and Legolas. Thanks and a tearful speech during dinner by Elrond had caused everyone to lose their appetites.
Once dinner was complete, the elflord requested Elladan and Elrohir to join him for his last night in Arda. Legolas well understood the need for Elrond to have his sons close, and chose to spend his time with the others in quiet talk for the evening.
“You will miss the twins this night, will you not?” Thranduil asked his son sympathetically.
“Aye, it has been many nights since we have slept apart, but I know their father needs them more than I right now,” Legolas answered honestly.
“It is good you understand Elrond’s needs,” Erestor pointed out with a soft smile.
“I am sure if my father was sailing, Glorfindel would give us time together,” Legolas replied with a grin. “Perhaps not the entire night, but some of it.”
Glorfindel laughed and nodded his head at Legolas’ answer. “I would try to contain my needs long enough for you to have some time with your father, my Prince.”
Thranduil chuckled and pulled Glorfindel closer to him so he could plant a deeply passionate kiss to his lips.
Legolas looked away, still unused to his father doing such things in front of him.
“Come now, Legolas. It is not as if you do not do the same with both your lovers,” Erestor said with a chuckle.
“I do, but watching my father...” The prince shivered. “I am just unused to witnessing such a thing. It makes me almost want to crawl away and hide.”
Thranduil and Glorfindel just grinned at the blushing Legolas, who shook his head with barely disguised repulsion.

Elrond’s Tent
Elrond led his sons into his tent and asked them to sit with him. He had a few more words of wisdom to share with them. “Make yourselves comfortable. This is not an official meeting. Tonight I will be just your father and you will be just my sons.
“My life has been long, and though I long for and love your mother, my children have meant more to me than anything. That you have grown to be such elves of honor pleases me, and I am proud to call you my sons.
“Allow me to impart some final words of wisdom to you. Listen to my words and keep them in your heart for eternity. They are life to those who listen. Watch over your hearts with diligence, and honor those who would honor you. Keep those who would deceive you far from you.
“Let your gaze be fixed forward and all your paths will be well-known. Defend yourselves and those close to you from the evil that still lurks in Arda. When you walk, do not let your steps be obstructed, and when you run do not stumble. Let my words guide you for all the long years of your lives. Acquire wisdom and understanding in the ways the Valar have taught us. Be brave in the face of your enemies and know that your honor will be rewarded.”
Elrond finished speaking and turned first to Elladan and then to Elrohir. “Do you understand the things I have said to you?”
“Perfectly,” Elladan replied quietly. “It is what I expected to hear from you.”
“Aye, father, the meaning of your words is clear,” Elrohir answered as quietly as his brother.
“Elladan, there is one last gift I would give you,” Elrond said while slipping Vilya off his finger and handing it to his son.
“Father, I am not worthy to wield this ring…” Elladan began in protest.
“You are the new Lord of Imladris; by all rights it is your ring now. You are more than worthy, my son, as is Elrohir.”
“Protect the citizens of Imladris and yourselves with this ring, Elladan,” Elrond said with seriousness. “It will keep the refuge safe from those that would cause it harm.”
“I do not know what to say,” the elf warrior said, staring at the ring his father gifted him with.
“You are the rightful owner now; do not abuse its power,” Elrond answered in a gentle voice. “There is a box on the shelf in my private study where I have kept it. On your return, I would advise you to keep it there until it is needed.”
“Aye, I will keep it there and well hidden from the eyes of others,” Elladan swore, finally looking up at his father. “I will miss you once you are gone, but I know mother is waiting for you. I love you, and wish that you also pass that message on to mother.”
“I will,” Elrond promised while he turned to look at Elrohir. “My dearest Elf Knight, you are charged with defending Imladris and your brother. Let nothing keep you from your task.”
“Nothing could keep me from my assigned task, Father,” Elrohir promised with a wrist over his heart. “I will miss you too, Father, and I also love you and mother. Do not let a day pass by without letting her know her sons will join you one day.”
“I love you both,” Elrond replied as he pulled them closer to him. “I will count the days until you join us in Valinor, but forgive me if I weep. Arwen will have passed and your mother and I must grieve for her.”
“As we will,” Elladan answered, hugging his father.
“Aye, we will grieve her passing even as we rejoice at seeing our parents once again,” Elrohir swore as he joined Elladan in hugging their father.
“The hour grows late, my sons, and we should sleep,” Elrond said sadly while giving them one last squeeze.
“We shall stay with you through the night,” Elladan said, fighting the tears that threatened to fall.
“Aye, we will guard your sleep, Father,” Elrohir agreed, holding back his own tears.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
With dawn approaching, the twins woke their father and helped him dress for his long journey. Just as they finished, servants arrived to collect Elrond’s various trunks and boxes.
“We have a while before you must board the ship. Will you have breakfast with us?” Elladan asked, leading his father out of the tent.
“Aye, breakfast sounds good. Maybe the others can join us as well,” Elrond replied.
“I will fetch them,” Elladan volunteered, leaving Elrohir to walk with their father to the table.
“Do you have faith in us, Father?” Elrohir asked holding onto his father’s arm.
“I have all the faith in you,” Elrond answered, smiling at his son. “I would not be leaving if I doubted your abilities.”
Elrohir chuckled and wrapped an arm around his father’s shoulder. “I should have known the answer to that question. I will miss your guidance and your company.”
“And I shall miss seeing your mischievous smile and hearing your hearty laughter,” Elrond said in reply.
When they reached the table sitting in the small glade, everyone was waiting for them. Elrond smiled to see his friends and family gathered to have his final breakfast in Arda.
“The Valar have surely blessed me to have you with me on this day,” he said to everyone while taking his seat.
“It is the Valar who blessed us in allowing us to know you, Elrond,” Erestor replied, just as the food arrived.
“You will be missed, my friend,” Glorfindel added.
“Even I shall miss you, Elrond,” Thranduil said with a chuckle. “We should have made plans together before our latest one.”
“It is a pleasure to have you here, Thranduil,” Elrond admitted with a grin. “We did not even have to make the plans; it seems our sons took care of everything on their own.”
“Give us some credit,” Elrohir insisted. “We are neither blind nor stupid.”
“Legolas had our attention long before he arrived in Imladris with the message you sent,” Elrohir boasted to Thranduil while Legolas raised his eyebrows.
“That is a story I haven’t heard before, care to elaborate?” Legolas asked with a grin.
“Later, beloved,” Elladan replied, glaring at Elrohir.
Laughter greeted Elladan’s reply as everyone enjoyed breakfast. It was a much livelier affair than the dinner the night before. Elrond seemed at peace and ready to join his wife; the sadness that had radiated from him the past months was gone.
Too soon for everyone involved, a servant arrived to tell Elrond that the ship was ready to sail and that he should board soon. After thanking him and sending him on his way, Elrond turned to face his sons and his friends.
“Thank you for making this a breakfast to remember,” he said with a smile. “I shall tell Celebrian about it once I arrive and have spent some time alone with her.”
Smiles greeted him in return and he reached for his sons to lead him to the ship. The others followed behind them, both happy and sad at Elrond’s departure.
With one last hug to his sons, Glorfindel, Erestor and Legolas, and a warrior’s farewell to Thranduil, the elflord boarded the ship. The bell announcing the sailing of the ship sounded, and as the ship left the harbor and sailed to the West, they watched Elrond until they could no longer make out his figure standing at the railing. When the ship was nothing but a small spot on the horizon, they finally turned. It was time to go home.

The End
