Good News

Denise tucked Heidi in bed after they had reassured her that Celeborn would live. Heidi had been so tired that she had passed out from sheer exhaustion. After Denise was sure that Heidi was comfy she left and went to the healer’s wing. Legolas sat holding the sliver lord’s hand. He smiled tiredly at Denise.

“How fares Heidi?” He asked as Denise knelt next to him.

“Asleep.” Denise laid her head in Legolas’s lap.

“About time, she was suffering something fierce.” Legolas ran his fingers through Denise’s hair. “Some bonding night huh?” he smiled mirthlessly.

Denise sighed. “It will get better. At least we know that we can survive hardships.”

Legolas laughed softly so he didn’t disturb Celeborn. A soft knock sounded at the door as Thranduil entered. He looked at his son and daughter in law. They looked so tired and sad.

“Why don’t you two retire for what remains of the night?” He suggested as he laid his hand on his son’s shoulder. “I will stay with Celeborn.”

Legolas nodded and he gently laid Celeborn’s hand on the bed. He took his wife’s hand and led her to his, now their chambers. Thranduil sat next to the sliver lord’s bedside hoping his old friend would wake soon.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Heidi woke the next morning feeling stiff and her heart hurt. She changed her clothing and brushed and braided her hair. She went directly to the healing quarters where she hoped someone had stayed with her love. Heidi didn’t want him to wake alone. She entered and saw Thranduil sleeping in a chair next to the bed. He woke immediately and smiled at her.

“He still lives.” The King reassured her.

“I know…our bond it tells me as much. He is weak but fighting hard. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost him. It hurts so much.” Heidi said as tears fell down her face.

“I know how you feel.” Thranduil said as he wrapped his arms around her.

“How?” Heidi returned the hug.

“My wife died after she was attacked by Orcs. Legolas was just a baby. I held her as she died. She never woke up. If Legolas hadn’t been so young I would have passed on as well.” Thranduil explain

Thranduil held her as sriedried in his arms, after awhile the sobs subsided. Heidi looked over at Celeborn and gasped, he was looking at them confused. Thranduil smiled when he saw that Celeborn was awake.

“Welcome back.” Thranduil smiled.

Heidi knelt next to the bed and she laid her head on the mattress and she cried. Celeborn weakly ran his fingers through her hair as he smiled tiredly.
