Imladris, Fall, Third Age 2086
Thranduil entered his son's quarters, shutting the door behind him and leaning against it. "We will be leaving Imladris in three days," he said without preamble. "I would like to return to Mirkwood before the snows fall."
"I understand," Legolas said. "And what of Lord Glorfindel?"
"Glorfindel and Erestor will be returning with us," Thranduil said, his chin raised, daring his son to speak against the decision.
Legolas, wisely, said nothing.
"I do have a request of you, Greenleaf," Thranduil smiled. "I would appreciate it if you would keep close to Teledan. He has not healed in mind and spirit as much as I had hoped before our return, and with Erestor riding with us, I fear Teledan might... injure himself or someone else."
"Erestor broke your toy, and now you are throwing it away? Why do *you* not care for him?" Legolas spat out at his father, his upset and distaste clear in his tone.
Thranduil remained calm. "Teledan has left my service. I have released him. He needs what I cannot give him."
Legolas gave an undignified snort. "I see. I am to receive your hand-me-downs."
The elder Sinda's temper flared. "I thought better of you, my son. For as long as you have railed against me because you perceive that I treat my submissives as mere objects, I am surprised to hear you refer to one in the same manner. Teledan was wounded in spirit -- through no action of my own, I might add -- and now I am trying to do right by him. I trust you to watch out for his best interests for I have been entrusted with your one-time beau's sanity."
Flinching, Legolas had to acknowledge that his father was right. "Yes, that was indecorous of me. I am sorry, Father. He is no object; he is an Elf who is hurting." He took a deep breath and nodded. "I will do my best to ensure his comfort and mental well-being," though he did not fully understand what that meant.
Thranduil cupped his son's face and kissed the fair brow. "Thank you. You never give me reason not to be proud of you, Legolas."
Legolas gazed up at his father, his blue eyes holding Thranduil's green, and he speaks softly. "I understand more about your life than I did than before we came to Imladris, and I no longer resent you or feel ashamed or disgusted by your choices. I love you, Father, and I hope that you now understand, in light of all that has happened, how dangerous this sort of play can be."
A knowing smile formed on Thranduil's lips as he chuckled. "Of all the players in this topsy-turvy drama, I am probably the one Elf that needs to hear that the least." He kissed Legolas once more, and then turned and left the room.
