Happy and Sad Times

The week passed by quickly with the plans for the bonding. Heidi and Celeborn were seen rarely ouside each others company. Denise gladly divided her time between Heidi and Legolas. Mirkwood was such an interesting place she loved it there. To Heidi it was a dark depressing place and she longed for the splendor of Lorien. The day of the bonding dawned hot and bright. Denise rose and bathed she was dressing when Heidi knocked on her door. Heidi's hair had grown long and she seemed otherworldly, serene. Denise longed for her old friend back. Smiling Heidi stepped into the room.

"Oh...you haven't dressed yet." Heidi said frowning.

"Was about to." Denise said as she pulled on the white silk dress.

Heidi watched her dress as she wondered when they had grown apart and how. Heidi smiled and took Denise's hand.

"I love you. You are my dearest friend. I do not know what happened to us or why. But I will rectify it. I promise."

Denise smiled and kissed Heidi on the cheek. "I know hon."

Smiling Heidi led Denise to the great hall where Legolas stood next to his father and Celeborn. The most important of Mirkwood's society were present. Heidi led Denise to Legolas and then she went to stand next to Celeborn. Thranduiok hok his son's hand and laid it in Denise's. He tied their hands together with a silk cord as he said a prayer to the Valar in elvish. Heidi smiled and took her husband's hand as Legolas and Denise exchanged gold rings. After it was over Thranduil removed the silk cord and laid it in a box. He handed the box to Denise who smiled. The crowd cheered as Thranduil laid thin gold crowns on the couple's head.

"You are now a crown princess Denise. Someday soon when I step down you shall be Queen." Thranduil kissed Denise on the cheek.

After the bonding was a huge feast soon after Legolas and Denise disappeared to be alone.

A pounding on the door woke Celeborn and Heidi late that night. Celeborn grabbed a robe and slipped it on, he went and opened the door a bit. Heidi sat up and used the sheet to hide her naked body. Celeborn nodded and closed the door. He began to dress hurriedly. Heidi stood and slipped on a sheer white dress.

"Whats wrong?" She asked as he grabbed his armor and weapons.

"Ors. An army approaches fast." He said as he strapped on his quiver.

Heidi nodded and watched him dress. He turned grabbed her arm and hauled her against his body.

"I will be back. I love you." He kissed her softly.

"I love you to." she whispered.

He turned and left the room and she followed him to the great hall where Legolas and Denise were. Denise ran to Heidi and they held each other as their mates walked outside. They followed and watched as Thranduil, Celeborn, and Legolas mounted horses. After a brief salute to the women they were gone. Sighing Heidi and Densie went to set up the healing chambers.

The wounded flooded in as night turned to day and day to evening again. Heidi was bandaging up an elf when the doors burst open and Legoals came running in carrying a still silver headed form. Heidi felt as if time had slowed, the world spun as Legolas passed her carrying her husband. She could hear a keening cry coming from somewhere, she realized it was her. Legolas laid the Lord down on the one empty bed. Suddenly several healers began to attend his wound Legolas turned to Heidi who was swaying. Her cries had died down into whimpers. Legolas reached out and embraced her, she buried her face in his chest as she sobbed. A pair of hands were stroking her back and Heidi realized Denise had joined them. They led her to a chair close by the fire. She watched in horror as they struggled to save her husband. Through the bond she could feel him slipping away from her.
