The best index to a person’s character is (a) how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and (b) how he treats people who can’t fight back.

And with that, Erestor ran outside, seeking Legolas, calling out for him, trying to let him know that he was not alone, even as he inwardly cursed Elrond.
Erestor hurried after the princeling; he did not wish him to be hurt, not like this.
He knew how much words could hurt, and knew that it could effect the princeling very much, especially in his current condition.
“Legolas,” He called as he took deep breaths of the fresh air, and scanned the view.
He finally noticed Legolas, knelt beside the river. Erestor came forward, and noted how the princeling gazed into the river.
Erestor smiled, and trying to comfort the distraught younger elf, he said, “Legolas, I have been worried about you.”
But there was no response from the elfling, and that concerned Erestor.
Legolas kept his eyes on the river, staring almost entranced-like at it.
Erestor could feel dread wash over him in a matter of seconds, and for once he could not talk, he was speechless, and had no idea what to say to the princeling. Erestor was so deeply in thought of how he should get Legolas’ attention that he did not feel Glorfindel’s presence behind him.
That is, until Glorfindel spoke. “There you are,” Erestor spun around to look at him, and Glorfindel added, “I have been looking for both of you, and Elrond did not help much.”
“You should stay in bed, mellon-nin, you are still sore.” Erestor replied to the other lord.
“I should, but I also want to help him.” Glorfindel motioned to Legolas, still staring deep into the river.
Erestor nodded, and turned to look at the princeling with a worried look, hoping that he could somehow ease what ever bothered the young elf, knowing it was caused by the herbs Legolas had taken.
Legolas leaned over the river, and that caused both the lords to hold their breaths, hoping that he would not do such a foolish act as jumping in, or anything that might cost his life, neither wished that.
“Legolas?” Glorfindel asked softly as he grabbed Legolas’ hand, trying to bring him back from the dangerous edge, but the elfling shook his hand free, and with that small movement Legolas jumped into the river.
Erestor rushed to the edge, and caught Legolas’ legs before the cold water covered the elfling’s form completely.
Glorfindel helped the advisor to settle the princeling on the grass, taking the edge of his tunic he dried Legolas’ face, as he stared at both of them in fear.
With vibrant shaking, Legolas asked weakly, “W…why?”
“Because we love you, and we care for you, Prince Legolas.” Erestor answered for them both, knowing that Glorfindel also cared greatly for Legolas, just as he did.
“El…Elrond not love me…” Legolas said sadly, and looked away from them. Then added, “It was my fault that Elladan was hurt, I could see the accusation in Elrond’s eyes…”
Erestor moved closer to the princeling and softly said, “It was not fault, and Elrond does love you, and he is the one that is acting selfish, and it is part of the lord’s fault, not yours.”
But it seemed that his words fell upon deaf ears, as Legolas continued as if he had not heard him or was ignoring him. “Can I have more of the herbs he gave me?”
“Those herbs, Greenleaf, make you feel worse, and you barely can eat already; and I can see it in your eyes, the spark of life is fading, slipping from you, and you grow weaker and weaker; you are losing control of your own body. You are fading, young one, when you should be getting stronger.” Glorfindel spoke softly to the prince, and hoped that he would hear him, and take things to heart, as he did not want to be the one that would tell King Thranduil of what had become of his son.
Erestor added, “What would your Adar say if he heard about you taking those poisonous herbs?”
