Legolas' Revenge

"'Tis in my head; 'tis in my heart; 'tis everywhere; it rages like a madness and I must wonder how my own reason holds" - Thomas Otway

“Annowe,” he moaned into her hair as she clutched him tightly. His body trembled with release and he panted weakly against her.

“Legolas,” she whispered to him, stroking his damp hair over his shoulder as she continued to hold him. “Oh, Legolas.”

He lay flat against her for a few moments, allowing his weight to press fully down on her while he slowly recovered his senses. She was murmuring quiet words of endearment to him between gentle kisses to his neck and shoulders. Slowly, he rose up on his elbows to look down at her and smiled. The flush of passion was still high on her round cheeks and her eyes shone brightly in the moonlight.

Tenderly, he kissed one eyelid then the tip of her nose before gently kissing her parted lips. Deliberately he raised his eyes toward Haldir’s hiding place without breaking their kiss and gave the March Warden a cheeky wave behind Annowe’s head.

Haldir’s jaw dropped in stunned silence. The horrid little prince had known he was there the entire time! Haldir growled in annoyance. Legolas had knowingly given him quite a show but he doubted if the nymph knew of his presence. But that wasn’t going to last long.

As he watched, Legolas pressed his ear to Annowe’s cheek as his eyes continued to watch the March Warden. When Legolas finished speaking, Annowe twisted her head to get a look at their audience. Fortunately for Haldir, she did not have an elf’s keen senses and could not see him in the dark. Incensed and unable to act against them, he haughtily rose from his hiding place and stalked farther into the forest.

Legolas watched him leave then slid off of Annowe and pulled her close, lest she decide to add injury to the insult Haldir had already suffered. But she seemed content just to press herself close to Legolas and rest her head against his shoulder.

“He was watching the whole time?” She murmured against him.

“Yes. The whole time,” Legolas agreed, his fingers stroking her back.

Her body started to shake under his hands and he held her tightly, thinking that the rage was growing in her when suddenly she burst into a fit of giggles.

“And you knew it the whole time,” she managed to blurt out between giggles.

Legolas said nothing as the strangeness of the entire situation fully dawned on him and he also began to giggle guiltily.

The sound of their combined giggles drifted across the quiet garden, finding Haldir’s burning ears. He grunted. They may have gotten the best of him this time but he would have other opportunities.
“Why didn’t you say something?” Annowe asked when she finally overcame her fit of hilarity.

“I thought you would either refuse to participate or worse – go chase him out and I wanted to make sure he got an eyeful,” Legolas admitted sheepishly.

She thought about that for a few moments. “Yes, you’re probably right. I would have chased him. He’s got some nerve!” She snorted. “But you did give him an eyeful,” she grinned wickedly and kissed his neck.

Legolas chuckled and tipped her chin up to him. “And you gave him something to think about as well. I couldn’t have asked for a better performance.”

“I wasn’t performing,” she said. “Were you?”

Legolas knew that was a dangerous question. He had not been performing for the March Warden’s benefit, had he? A twinge of guilt struck him. Yes, he had. Not that he hadn’t immensely enjoyed himself – quite the contrary.

“A bit,” he admitted guiltily. “But more for your benefit than his.”

She laughed at this. “When can I get a repeat performance?” She murmured teasingly into his neck.

Legolas slapped her lightly on the rump. “Becoming quite greedy, aren’t we?” He answered playfully.

“Absolutely!” She agreed heartily.

He watched as the sun crept into the room, glinting on her bronze hair and warming the marble floor. They had retreated to the privacy of her room after their performance for Haldir. Annowe worried that he might return and Legolas wanted to be completely alone with her to continue their dalliance.

Annowe stirred slightly in the bed and he reached out to absently stroke her hair as he continued to think back on their mission for Elrond.

The One Ring had been found. Elrond had confirmed this but he would say no more on the subject. “In two days,” the venerable elf had said. “We will gather to decide what must be done.” Today was that day. Legolas sighed and watched his finger twist around one of Annowe’s curls.

Today they would meet to discuss the fate of their world and he would be there. Representing his father and the elves of Mirkwood. Would Annowe attend? He wondered.

She stirred again and he quietly slid back into the bed next to her, feeling her warm skin next to his. He hoped she would not attend. Now that they had finally admitted to their mutual desire he did not want anything to come between them and he had a very bad feeling about that ring.

Legolas did not sleep that morning, he just held the sleeping nymph in his arms, wanting to lay with her forever and keep her safe. He wished he had never heard of Gollum or The Ring. But if not for that accursed object, would he and Annowe have ever admitted their feelings for each other? Legolas squeezed his eyes shut – he did not want to think that such a horrible object could have brought the two of them together.
