Chapter 20

I apologize for the delay in posting this chapter. I had some RL issues, including traveling to Oklahoma to see my youngest twin graduate from Army Boot Camp. Elladan and Legolas were silent for a while, but Thranduil made his feelings quite known. He is not a very happy king at this point.

A/N: *Emphasis*, (Thoughts)
This story has been floating around in my mind and demanded to be written. It features a darker Elladan than we are used to and a young vulnerable Legolas. For the purpose of this story, I have decided (with some advice from the great and wonderful Min.) that the age of majority for an elf is 500 years. Legolas will reach his majority during the year of their betrothal. NO underage sex!!! NO non-con and NO rape!!!
Feedback: Would be wonderful and makes me type faster!
Summary: Elrohir is interrupted to search for Elladan and Legolas.

Chapter Twenty

‘I am saying I love you, Legolas, and I have since our kiss in the hayloft.’

Of all the things that could have come out of Elladan’s mouth, the words he uttered stunned the prince into speechlessness. The elf warrior expressed the words Legolas longed to hear and now that they had been said, he just stared at his future mate trying to think of something, anything, to say.

Elladan watched Legolas’ reactions and waited patiently for some sign that he had heard the words he said. The longer the prince was silent, the more nervous the elf warrior became. Had he lost the one elf he loved by his callous treatment of him? Was he too late?

Legolas finally organized his thoughts enough to reply to Elladan. He cleared his throat and spoke calmly. “Is this another one of your lies to get me into your bed? How can you treat someone you claim to love as you have treated me, Elladan? How can you expect me to believe you?”

“I was afraid. I explained that before,” Elladan replied desperately. “Please tell me I am not too late. Tell me you love me too, or I will lose my reason for living.”

“You were fine when I came to Imladris, Elladan,” Legolas replied softly. “I am sure there are many reasons you choose to live for.”

“Do you not understand, Ernilen?” Elladan asked loudly. “*You* have become my reason. Nothing else matters to me, only you.”

“Well, where is Legolas?” Thranduil asked again as Elrond, Erestor and Glorfindel looked at one another.

“Elladan has taken him for a picnic this afternoon as a reward for all the training he has done,” Elrond spoke evenly. “Legolas has excelled with the sword and my son thought to gift him with an afternoon off.”

“They are alone?” Thranduil asked becoming increasingly angry. “I thought you promised to have them supervised at all times, Elrond.”

“It is only a picnic, Thranduil, there is no reason to become angry,” the Elven Lord replied. “Elladan would not seduce Legolas at any time, especially now that they are not getting along as well as they were.”

“In other words, my son hasn’t put up with Elladan‘s ego?” the king asked.

“No, Legolas has proven to be much more than Elladan thought,” Glorfindel answered with a slight grin.

Bargon and Maethoron bit their lips to keep from chuckling at the balrog slayer’s answer.
Elrond, however, chuckled aloud. “He has certainly proven to be your son. Come let us get your things put in your room and have some tea. Glorfindel, perhaps you should have Elrohir hunt them down.”

“I will see that it is done, Elrond,” Glorfindel replied as he watched them enter the house.

“I am your reason?” Legolas asked, almost breathless.

“Aye, you are, Ernilen,” Elladan replied moving towards the prince and taking his hand. Relieved that Legolas didn’t pull away, the elf warrior moved closer. “Tell me Elrohir isn’t wrong about your feelings concerning me.”

The prince couldn’t look away from Elladan’s eyes. He loved those gray eyes. He loved waking up to see them staring at him. He loved the twin, but could he tell him and still protect himself from the elf warrior’s harsh words and anger? “Elrohir is not wrong,” he admitted with defeat. “I do love you, Elladan, but I am afraid.”

“How can loving me make you afraid?” Elladan asked, not understanding why Legolas sounded as he did. There was something in the prince’s voice that made Elladan ill.

“Your words are harsh especially when your temper is roused --”

“Now that I have admitted to myself that I love you, my words will no longer be harsh towards you, Ernilen. I would never hurt you, not on purpose. I will always be there for you. Ask anything of me and you shall have it, but I am giving you the gift of my heart, Legolas. Will you not accept it?” Elladan would have done anything at that moment to have the prince accept what he was offering.

Legolas gathered his courage and said the words he could never deny. “I will, I do, Elladan. I love you and you also have my heart. I am yours, my elf warrior.”

With a cry of overwhelming joy, Elladan pulled Legolas into his arms and hugged him close. “Thank you, Ernilen, thank you. My heart is whole now; you have healed it with your care.”

“Will you love me for eternity?” Legolas asked while clinging to Elladan. “Will you hold me like this whenever you can?”

“I will both love you and hold you for eternity, Legolas,” Elladan answered softly. “There is no getting away from me or my love for you. May I kiss you?”

The prince pulled back and looked at Elladan with a smile. This time it was Legolas who initiated the kiss, drawing close to his future mate’s mouth and savoring the softness of Elladan’s lips. To the elf warrior it was the sweetest kiss he ever received, one that he would treasure and relive many times.

When the tender kiss ended, Elladan knew better than to push Legolas so he gave him a smile. “Do you think you can eat now? Cook would be quite upset if we returned and you had not eaten your favorite meal.”

Legolas grinned and nodded. “I am almost as nervous as I was before, but I shall try to eat my share.”

“Well, I am relieved that you know everything now,” Elladan replied with a smile. “There is only one more thing to take care of and then we can get on with our life together.”

“What is it?” the prince asked, his curiosity roused.

“It is a surprise, Legolas, and no amount of begging will make me tell you,” the elf warrior replied with a grin. “You will just have to wait. Eat your lunch and enjoy my company.”

Glorfindel finally tracked Elrohir down in the armory, and to his surprise, the younger twin’s attention was not focused on the weapons, but on another ellon assigned to the regiment. Another few minutes and the golden warrior would have embarrassed both of them, if their kiss was any indication of things to come. He chuckled to himself and cleared his throat causing them both to jump in surprise.

“Excuse us, Cylleruion, but I need to speak with Elrohir alone,” Glorfindel told the crimson faced guard.

“Aye, Glorfindel, excuse me,” the guard said, quickly exiting the armory.

“Why must you always interrupt my fun?” Elrohir asked, grinning madly. “Do you know how long it took me to get him that far?”

The captain laughed and almost felt sorry for chasing the younger twin’s quarry away. “Something, or should I say someone, has arrived and is very interested in locating Legolas. Find your brother and have them return; the king is ready to track them himself.”

“Thranduil is here? Now?” Elrohir asked worriedly. “Why so early?”

“He wants to spend time with Legolas before his majority celebration,” Glorfindel explained. “The sooner Legolas returns the better, if you get my meaning.”

The elf knight tried to contact Elladan through their link, but found himself blocked. “He has closed his mind to me. I shall have to ride out to them. I know he was planning to tell Legolas the truth today and I only hope I don’t interrupt anything…”

“Even Elladan is not that stupid,” the balrog slayer replied, hoping he was right.

“When it comes to Legolas, Elladan does not think clearly. There is more to the story than you know, Glorfindel, but I am not at liberty to reveal it.”

“In that case, you better find them, Elrohir, before the king loses patience and you lose a brother,” Glorfindel advised before turning to leave.

Elladan and Legolas finished their lunch and were lazing in the afternoon sun. The elf warrior held Legolas in his arms while the prince rested his head on Elladan’s chest. It could not have been a more perfect day for him, and the twin sent a silent prayer of thanksgiving to the Valor for granting him this chance to win Legolas. Life would be perfect as soon as they were bound. Only one thing had to be taken care of and Elladan would do that now.

“Legolas?” Elladan whispered softly.

“Hmm?” the prince replied lazily.

“Give me the betrothal ring back,” Elladan answered nervously.

Legolas lifted his head and looked at the elf warrior with genuine fear in his eyes. His stomach did several flip-flops and he felt suddenly ill. “Have you changed your mind?” he asked frantically. “What reason would you ask for it back? You just told me you loved me.”

“No, no, Legolas. I have not changed my mind.” Elladan soothed him with a tender kiss. “Trust me, give it to me.”

The prince removed the ring from his finger and gave it to the elf warrior even though he was still suspicious of the reason.

“Legolas Thranduilion, will you bind yourself with me with all your love that we may be together for eternity?” Elladan asked with more seriousness than the prince had ever seen.

The smile on Legolas’ face and the joy in his heart made it hard for him to form a coherent reply. Finally the words make their way past his lips. “Aye, Elladan, I will, I will, but you already knew that.”

“Aye, I did, but I wanted to ask you again and place the ring on your finger, and mean it this time. It means a lot to me that I asked you with all the love in my own heart and really mean it,” he explained.

“I should do the same,” Legolas replied with a smile. “Give me your ring, Elladan, and let me ask you in return.

Laughing, the elf warrior removed the ring and handed it to the prince, his gray eyes sparkling with delight as he waited to answer the question Legolas would ask.

“Elladan Elrondion, will you bind yourself with me with all your love that we may be together for eternity?” Legolas asked with a smile that the elf warrior thought would split his face.

“You know I will,” Elladan answered as he pulled Legolas into a deeply passionate kiss.

“I take it things went the way you hoped, brother,” Elrohir called from a short distance away.

The pair ended their kiss and looked at the elf knight who was chuckling. “There was a reason I closed my mind to you, Elrohir. Why are you here?” Elladan remarked, letting his irritation show.

“Do not blame me. Glorfindel sent me on this errand and you should be glad it was me,” Elrohir replied, nonplused by his brother’s aggravation. “A certain king had arrived in the valley looking for his son. He threatened to find Legolas himself, and that kiss may have been the end of your life.”

“My father is here?” Legolas asked standing. “Why is he here so early?”

“Aye, why is he here now?” Elladan asked, even more perturbed.

“It seems he wants to spend time with his son before his majority celebration,” Elrohir replied, telling them all he knew. “I suggest we return as quickly as possible. Even father can only calm Thranduil so much.”

“Aye, he is right, Elladan,” Legolas said to his betrothed. “I will get the horses if you will clean up our lunch.”

“Go fetch them then,” Elladan said disappointedly, “but you are riding back with me.”

“Of course,” Legolas replied grinning before taking off.

“Perfect timing, Elrohir,” Elladan grumbled at his twin. “I was not quite finished with our day.”

“As I said, don’t blame me,” Elrohir replied with a chuckle. “Perhaps it is best I interrupted that kiss. You were enjoying it entirely too much and it clearly shows.”

Elladan glared and packed everything up before walking over to his brother. “It would not have gone further.”

Elrohir looked at him with doubtful eyes as Legolas joined them with the horses. “Come, it is best we don’t keep my father waiting longer than necessary,” the prince said.
