Make up your mind (23/25)

Dom’s thoughts after his talk with Billy. A decision is made…

Disclaimer: Not true!

Author’s notes: The end is nearing… I can already see it. I love being evil!

23. Make up your mind (23/25)

Somehow Dom made it home. He stumbled through the streets, half blind with tears, not caring for the strange looks people shot at him. Without a word Dom walked across the living room where Sean and Jenny were just having a cup of tea. Ignoring their worried questions Dom went straight into his room and locked the door behind his back.

“Dom?” he could hear his dad’s voice after a moment. “What’s wrong, son? Come out!” Sean called, knocking at the door with his fist.

“I’m alright!” Dom lied, burying himself under his bedcovers. “I just need to…need to think…”

Sean stopped knocking at the door. “OK, but come out if you need to talk or it gets worse,” he finally said. “I’m in the living room with Jenny if you should need me…”

Dom nodded, biting back the sobs that were again shaking his frame uncontrollably. Only when he heard that Sean had left Dom let free the choked whimper he had been holding back. Why had he let Billy walk away from him? He should’ve tried to stop him, but he hadn’t, because deep inside he knew that he didn’t have the right to stop Billy, to chain him to himself if Billy didn’t want to.

But how could Dom win Billy back? He couldn’t imagine a life without his best friend, without the one person that accepted him the way he was, with all of his flaws and oddities.

Dom stood up carefully and started to walk around in the room. Hell, but he couldn’t think clearly. It was as if the tears had washed all of his reason away. He needed help, Dom decided. He needed to talk to somebody to clear his mind. Normally he would’ve called Billy, but that wasn’t possible. New tears were running down Dom’s cheek as he thought of Billy. He missed him so much. Billy was such a big part of Dom’s life that Dom felt totally helpless and empty without him.

In his despair Dom finally decided to call Liv. They hadn’t talked as much as they used to since Orli and Live were a couple, but she surely would not turn down a friend in need. Dom picked up his cell phone and dialed Liv’s number.

“Yes?” Liv answered after a few moments.

“Hi, it’s Dom,” Dom sniffled. “Um, I need to talk and… Do you have some time? I…”

“Sorry,” Liv interrupted him. “You caught a bad moment. Surprisingly Orli has to be home tonight and we had planned this great candlelight dinner. I’m just sitting here alone and all I feel like is crying,” Liv whined. “So if you could please call at some other day I…”

Dom threw his cell across the room onto his sofa. He should’ve known. There was no room in Liv’s perfect pink fluffy world for him. She had a handsome boyfriend, a family that loved her and everything else she could possibly ask for. The worst problem she had ever had was really that she had to spend one evening without Orli.

Dom shook his head, feeling even more alone than before. He contemplated calling Orli for a while, but in the end decided not to do it. Orli had lost his father before he was born and had grown up without a man in their household. He knew the pain of not having a father and having real problems, but since Liv had started to pack him up in pink fluffy clouds of cotton wool, he seemed to have forgotten about the fact that his life had been by no means perfect before.

Dom let himself fall backwards onto his bed. So he had to face the Billy-problem totally alone. What was it again Billy had wanted him to do? Take control… Dom squeezed his eyes shut, the motion hurting his burning eyes. Would it really help if he was to take control over the things in his life? Wouldn’t everything just get worse? Dom groaned, hiding his face behind his hands. The question was could it get worse than it was now? Dom shook his head. No, maybe not.

//Change whatever you don’t like about your life…// Dom sat up. Maybe that was the key to his problems: Changement. Dom wiped his hot face with his sleeve before he turned to reach for a piece of paper. He would make a list of things he wanted to be changed and then figure out how to do it.

Dom sat on his bed, the piece of paper in front of him and chewed on the end of his pen when it suddenly dawned on him what he wanted and what he would have to do to get it. //Tomorrow…// Dom decided and pushed paper and pen to the ground. He would take care about that tomorrow… The ache behind Dom’s eyes was lessening and he finally found himself able to sleep, hoping that his little plan would work.

~*~

Just like the days before Billy had spent the night drinking. He had downed one vodka after another before he finally mercifully passed out. In the morning he was feeling like crap. An indistinct sickness was growing in Billy’s stomach and his head hurt like hell. Billy groaned tormentedly when he remembered the cause of his pain and cursed himself. Why had he made Dom walk away? It was all his won fault this time!

Part of Billy had wanted to hug Dom’s figure close to his chest, to promise his crying friend that everything was alright again, that Billy would come back to Dom and never ever leave him again. But another part of Billy knew that he couldn’t risk his heart being broken once more.

As much as it hurt Billy, but he couldn’t take Dom back as long as the other man was as messed up as he had been lately. Dom had admitted that he didn’t know what he wanted and that meant too that he didn’t know truly if he wanted Billy as a friend or a lover. Now that Billy had made the first move and had admitted his love to Dom he felt that he couldn’t step back and be only friends with Dom again.

Now Dom had to decide what to make of their relationship and Billy feared what Dom would answer.

Billy’s thought were interrupted as suddenly the doorbell rang. Grumpily he walked to the door, annoyed at whoever was daring to disturb his thoughts that early in the morning. “Dominic…” Billy breathed when he saw who was standing in front of the door, startled.

“Hi, Billy,” Dom greeted his friend, an earnest expression on his features. “I’ve made up my mind,” he said firmly, playing with the ring on his right thumb.

Billy’s heart was racing when Dom uttered the next words. “I’ve come to tell you about my decision…”

Tbc…
