Chapter 19
I may not post another chapter for a couple of weeks. Many things have happened and I will not have as much time to write as I have had in the past. Sorry.

This story has been floating around in my mind and demanded to be written. It features a darker Elladan than we are used to and a young vulnerable Legolas. For the purpose of this story, I have decided (with some advice from the great and wonderful Min.) that the age of majority for an elf is 500 years. Legolas will reach his majority during the year of their betrothal. NO underage sex!!! NO non-con and NO rape!!!
Feedback: Would be wonderful and makes me type faster!
Summary: Elladan does his best to woo a very reluctant Legolas. A visitor arrives in the valley and surprises everyone.
Chapter Nineteen
For the fifth day in a row, the messenger returned Elladan’s gift to Legolas. The lovely poetry he picked out and the rose were both in ruins, and the elf warrior sighed when the messenger repeated Legolas’ words to him.
“Prince Legolas requests that you stop sending him poetry and gifts, my Lord Elladan,” the messenger said, as he had the past five days. “He has not even read any of your notes since the first one.”
“Thank you, “Elladan replied. “Return tomorrow at the same time and I will have another message and a rose.”
The messenger bowed and walked down the hall thanking the Valar that he did not have to concern himself with the problems between the two princes. It seemed the situation had changed of late. The Mirkwood prince was not as accepting of Elladan as he once was, and he thought it might be a good idea to listen to the house gossip to find out what is going on.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Elladan closed his door and made his way to his desk, pulling out a piece of paper and his pen. Instead of picking out more poetry, he would write from his heart, not that it would really matter. Legolas would just tear up the note without reading it and the roses from Celebrian’s gardens would be plucked apart petal by petal. It would not be long until his mother noticed the missing blooms.
After sitting for several minutes, Elladan began to write, hoping Legolas would read it.
Ernilen,
I have erred seriously, I know, but if you could find it in your kind, caring heart to let me explain the words that hurt you so grievously, I will be forever grateful.
I have missed your musical laughter and brilliant smile these past days and can only hope I will be graced with them again soon.
Meet me, if you will, at the stables after your morning lessons. Saes, Legolas, allow me to tell you how I feel.
Yours always,
Elladan
The elf warrior reread what he wrote and poured sand over the ink to help it dry before folding it in half. Now that he had written what he needed to, he wasn’t willing to wait until the morning to have it delivered. In fact, the only way he could be sure that Legolas read it was to deliver it himself. If the prince did rip the note up, Elladan would make Legolas listen to him.
With one last look in the mirror, the elf warrior left his room in search of the prince and prepared for the confrontation that he knew would take place.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Legolas had decided to have breakfast in his room before heading off to his lessons with Erestor. He knew that Elladan would probably be present at the table and that was one elf he was avoiding, if at all possible.
It was hard to ignore the elf warrior; he was such a prominent presence that he commanded the attention of all when he entered a room. Legolas wasn’t immune to him, and with his heart already given to Elladan, it was even harder to resist him.
The knock at the door pulled Legolas from his thoughts and the prince made his way to the door. Finding Elladan on the other side surprised him, and the prince stepped back.
The elf warrior took this as an invitation to enter and he closed the door behind him. Elladan held out the note to the prince. “Legolas, read this, saes.”
The prince didn’t want to read it, but his hand reached out to take the note from the hand of the only elf he had ever loved. “You shouldn’t be here, Elladan. I am not comfortable with this…”
“Just read it and I will leave,” the elf warrior insisted.
Legolas sighed and opened the note. Keeping his face expressionless, he read the note and then looked up at Elladan. “I have read it, now go.”
“Will you meet me after your lessons? I promise I will not do anything untoward. I won’t even sit next to you,” Elladan said as his eyes shined with hope. “We can skip your sword lesson this afternoon. What I have to say is more important than training.”
“More important to you or me?” Legolas asked derisively. “It is always about *you* isn’t it?”
“It is important to both of us, Ernilen,” the elf warrior replied quietly. “It is about us.”
“There is no *us*, Elladan. There will never be an *us*,” Legolas snapped.
“Nay, do not say that Legolas,” the elf warrior begged. “Meet me and I will explain everything.”
“Like how you intend to possess me?” the prince asked hatefully. “How you intend to use me?”
“Nay, it is not like that! I did not mean the things I said!” Elladan replied staring at Legolas. “Where is the kind hearted elf that arrived in this valley? Where is the Legolas that I know?”
“You ruined him!” the prince replied with a hiss.
“Nay, he is still there, but you refuse to allow me to see him,” Elladan accused as he took a step towards Legolas. “Will you meet me?”
The prince turned away from the elf warrior and took a deep breath. “Aye, I will listen, but I will not promise anything else.”
“That is all I ask,” Elladan replied with relief. “May we can have a picnic and speak in private?”
“If you make me uncomfortable, I will leave,” Legolas replied with a threat.
“You have my word, I will not touch you,” the elf warrior swore.
“Please leave. I do not wish to be late for my lessons with Erestor,” the prince said, still not facing Elladan.
“Thank you, Ernilen,” the elf warrior said as he departed Legolas’ rooms.
“I am not your prince,” Legolas whispered after the door closed.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Elladan made sure their horses were ready, and stood with a picnic basket as he waited for Legolas to arrive. He was about to start pacing, but hated to let anyone know how nervous he was about meeting with the prince. (How long can morning lessons last?)
The elf warrior released a relieved sigh when he saw Legolas approaching. “Did your morning lessons go over the time?”
“Nay, I was debating whether or not to meet you,” Legolas answered honestly. “I almost didn’t come, but I wanted to hear your excuses for treating me as you have.”
Elladan hid his shame behind a neutral face and nodded his head. “I can not blame you for that, but after you hear what I have to say, you may be glad that you decided to listen.”
“We will see,” Legolas replied evenly. “Where are we going?”
“To the glade I told you about before. Do not worry, Legolas. I will not try to seduce you,” Elladan promised again. “I only want you to hear me out.”
The prince nodded and mounted his horse before speaking to the animal softly.
“How long have you had him?” Elladan asked.
“Since he was weaned from his mother. My father thought he would be a nice begetting day gift,” Legolas replied, while trying to control the feelings he felt whenever Elladan was around.
“So you trained him as you saw fit?” At the prince’s nod, Elladan continued. “No wonder he is so loyal to you. If you wish, we can breed him to one of the mares here.”
“I might think about that when Faerlain grows older, but for now I am well satisfied with him. He is still young and I cannot imagine parting with him,” Legolas answered.
“I can understand your reluctance,” Elladan said while they made their way to the glade. “This horse is the great-great grandson of my first yearling. He even has the same coloring and marks.”
“Are you nervous?” Legolas asked all of the sudden.
“A little, why?” the elf warrior replied with a confused look.
“Because you have not stopped talking since I arrived at the stables. I think you have said more to me in this conversation than you have since I have been here in the vale,” the prince said.
“I often speak a lot when I am nervous,” Elladan admitted easily. “It means a lot to me that you are willing to listen to my reasons.”
“I said I would listen, Elladan. There is no need to be so nervous,” Legolas replied softly.
“What I have to say makes me nervous. I hope that you will know I am sincere when I speak,” Elladan answered with an anxious smile.
“All you can do is tell me what you have to say, and we will see if you are honest,” the prince replied. “Are we almost there?”
“Nearly, it is just over the hill,” the elf warrior said, pointing. “I think you will like it there. Elrohir and I used to go swimming when we were supposed to be studying with Erestor. He could never find us when we came here.”
Legolas gasped when he reached the top of the hill and saw the beautiful glade at the bottom of the hill. Trees stood behind a large patch of grass that faced a slow moving stream. “It is beautiful here.”
“I thought you might like it.” Elladan smiled as he watched the prince’s face. “There are plenty of trees and I thought it might please you to climb some of them. I know you like to do so.”
“Aye, it has been too long since I spent time in the trees,” Legolas said as he dismounted his horse. “Do you mind if I….”
“Go ahead, climb up there; just don’t fall,” Elladan teased, watching the prince disappear into the leaves. With a sigh of relief he began to unpack the blanket and their lunch on the ground. He had Legolas here and now he had to find the courage to tell him everything.
“Wood elves don’t fall from trees, Elladan!” the prince told him as he peaked through the leaves of a tree about twelve trees from where he started. “We can jump from limb to limb without our enemies knowing it. It is how we keep my home safe from spiders and orcs. Do you wish to learn?”
“Aye, if you will teach me, Ernilen,” Elladan replied with a smile. “Perhaps after we eat and I tell you what I need to tell you. Our picnic is laid out. Will you join me?”
There was no reply, but Legolas jumped to the ground behind the elf warrior and approached him silently. With an evil grin he reached out and grabbed Elladan by the shoulders. Elladan turned around ready for a fight and could only chuckle as the prince burst out in very un-princely laughter.
“I got you,” Legolas laughed.
“Aye, you did,” Elladan replied with a smile. “In more ways than you know.”
The prince blushed and sat down on the opposite side of the blanket waiting for the elf warrior to make himself comfortable.
“Would you like to talk while we eat? Or talk first?” Elladan asked, watching the prince’s face.
“I think we should talk first, if you don’t mind?” Legolas replied blushing again. “I am a little nervous about what you might say and eating won’t help me.”
“As you wish,” Elladan said softly, setting the plates on the blanket, but not saying anything.
“You wished to talk to me, but you aren’t saying anything,” the prince pointed out after a moment of silence.
“Aye, it is hard to tell you some of the things I must, and I am trying to think of a place to start,” the elf warrior admitted.
“It is best to start at the beginning, Elladan,” Legolas encouraged anxiously.
The elf warrior smiled softly and nodded his head. “When I was younger, I fell in love with an elf from Lothlorien. His name was Tholvel. We had been great friends for many years, but my feelings changed and I no longer felt towards him like a friend should. Instead of taking things slowly, I kissed him one day and told him I loved him.”
The prince had always thought there was more to the happenings between Elladan and Tholvel than Elrond had told him, and now the elf warrior had just confirmed that. Legolas nodded sympathetically because Elladan was looking at him expectantly.
The elf warrior laughed bitterly and continued his tale. “Tholvel wasn’t interested in me, or any other elf. He preferred maids. He left quickly and told everyone he could about what I had done. That day I swore I would never allow myself to love anyone, and I built a wall around my heart to keep it from feeling that kind of hurt again.
“If I only thought of you as a possession, I thought I could protect my heart, but I was wrong, Legolas. That morning you overheard Elrohir and I talking was a last ditch effort to keep that wall around my heart. When I found out you had heard everything I said, I wanted to tell you then, but you left so quickly and wouldn’t talk to me until now.”
“What are you saying?” Legolas asked in a whisper while looking Elladan in the eye.
“I am saying I love you, Legolas, and I have since our kiss in the hayloft,” the elf warrior admitted.

The Mirkwood party entered the gates of Imladris and were welcomed by Elrond, Erestor and Glorfindel.
Thranduil dismounted and greeted Elrond with friendliness and excitement. “It is good to see you again, Elrond. I have come to spend time with my son before his majority, where is he?”
