*~*~*~*~

Elrond greeted Lothlorien guards that were standing on the yard, and he smiled as he encountered the leader of their group, Haldir of Lorien. Haldir returned that smile as he came closer to Lord of Imladris and he bowed respectfully to Elrond acknowledging his title. He hadn't seen Elrond for millennia and he had looked forward to meeting him again. He had known Elrond when he was barely an elfling and at that time Haldir was about hundred years old. They used to play together and they grew up becoming the best friends but that friendship had suddenly fallen apart as they became adults.

"Hello Haldir. It is so nice to see you again. " He said as he pulled his long time friend into a hug. Lothlorien soldiers just stared confusedly at the sight and they wondered about this strange encounter. They didn't know Haldir knew Elrond that well and this hug between those two surprised them.

"Same goes here. Look at you, after all these years you seem unchanged. You are l thl that elfling I used to know, you little devil. I am sorry I missed your visits all those times you came to Lothlorien but I was always away, helping at the far western borders. It is so nice to see your face, my old friend." Haldir gave one of his soft looks to his friend and Elrond smiled.

"So what, brings you here, Haldir. I think something is amiss since Galadriel had sent one of her best guards. What message do you bring me from her this time." Elrond asked knowing that this visit had to do something with his mother in law and he knew that she had always managed to meddle into his affairs, so he reckoned that this time it was not different. Some kind of plan that Lady had cooked for him and it was not visible to him what kind of plan it was.

"Indeed, Elrond. I have message from Lady Galadriel, but it is a private message and I would ask of you if we can discuss it in your private study." Haldir said to his friend and lanclanced at his soldiers, seeing the curios expressions on their faces.

"Sure Haldir. We wcontcontinue our discussion there. Follow me, please." Elrond turned around and started walking, with Haldir following his footsteps with the same haste Elrond showed.

They came inside of the Elrond's study and Haldir took some liberty, taking a seat, not even waiting for Elrond to offer that privilege to him. Haldir knew his friend wouldn't mind making himself feel at home because the noble modesty was not counted as the patient trait in their friendship. They considered each other as equals and no title could come between their friendship that easily.

Elrond took a seat from the other side of the table as he waited for Haldir to continue talking.

"I will not beat around the bushes, my friend, when I tell you all of this.But.The message my Lady delivers, is indeed strange and it will change your life in an awkward way. She foresaw something two months ago and those strange dreams possessed warnings in them, making Galadriel more restless in her wake.
Her vision included voice of Valar and message he gave her was indeed tragic, if future was meant to happen in that way. The vision tells of ruin of Imladris and the warrior who was destined to prevent that from happening. The vision also states that the marriage will be formed to save your realm, the marriage between you and the warrior who will help you save the Imladris."

Elrond opened his mouth as he heard it all and he wanted to speak but his eyes only told Haldir to continue. He wasn't sure what to say about that message because he needed to have more information to make his statement.

"The ruin of your realm is inevitable and it only can be saved if you marry one of the best warriors Arda possesses. I know you wonder how that marriage can be done because you are still married to Celebrian, but I've got a letters with me that pretty much explain everything. The second letter I carry is from Celebrian which she gave to her mother before she sailed to Valinor. That letter releases your from the bond and promises you two made to each other, and I know you will find disbelief in this all, but only thing I can tell you is that you'll find answers in those words. I can only spare what my Lady has confided to me, but I cannot explain why those sudden things are about to happen to you."
Haldir lowered his head as he gave those letters to his long known friend and he sat very quietly, careful not to disturb his friends concentration. He knew that Elrond became tense after Haldir bore all those bad news to him but he couldn't help and wonder didndidn't the other elf responded to this conversation right now. He always knew that Elrond was always curious, meddling one, but the time seemed to change Elrond into a more patient elf, and Haldir could tell that this message would quickly change the faith of Imladris's Lord.

Elrond was always the one who carried the weight of this Arda on his shoulder and Galadriel was proud to admit to herself that Elrond was the ruler like no other. Never selfish that elf was, always wanting to help those in the need, healer was his true calling, friend is what they call him in every country or realm. All of those who come to Imladris find welcome here and none of them are refused of any aid. But what Haldir saw in Elrond was one very tired elf. If he would ever give up, this realm would not have any chance to survive, because the Elrond was the essential being of it's existence. Imladris was his breath, his life and those two were connected by the string of one heart. But shadows creeping would destroy this place and all of it's beauty and Elrond would be destroyed too if he even tried to fight the foul comings of darkness. That is why the alliance was necessary and the marriage between two powerful Lords would surely save this place.

Elrond read those two letters and the biggest shock came over him when he encountered the words from his wife's letter. Before she sailed to Valinor, Celebrian indeed released him from the marriage and she didn't even bother to tell him that. She gave this letter to her mother and Galadriel had kept it from him all those years. But now Galadriel had send it to him when the marriage to her daughter was not of the importance anymore, and the new opportunity had come to Elrond for the chance of stepping into the second one. He was hurt that piece information about his marriage annulment wasn't given to him before, but now he wondered what Galadriel did see, or why was she planing that second marriage when Elrond himself didn't give any consent to it. Why would he marry when he didn't even get over his first wife yet? And most importantly who was he to marry. Who was this warrior he had to bond to?

"Haldir, this is too much for me to comprehend. Who is the person I have to marry? Why is alliance with this person so important for Imladris's sake? The only best warrior I can think of right now is Glorfindel, and he is already married. Who is the person that Galadriel speaks of in riddles?" Elrond asked praying that Haldir will skip the name of the person his mind conjured up next, but knowing his luck it was a fat chance.

"Glorfindel is married? To who, when did he get hitched. Don't tell me that old wolf had finally settled." Haldir asked with confusion in his voice but Elrond just sighed and shook his head.

"To Erestor. But I will tell you about it later. Now tell me, who is the person I have to marry."
Elrond asked with slightly impatient tone and Haldir continued telling his friend what the faith will bring him next.

"I think you already realized who is that person. It's the Lord Arthon, commanof tof the spies and warriors in the far borders of Mirkwood. I know that this peace of information is to hard to comprehend right now, but listen to me as I will explain to you why alliance with him is very essential. His spies are always on the move, and their talans are scattered in the secret woods, trained warriors they are, taught by very best warrior amongst them. I know you know all of this, and you know that Thranduil is also his ally and friend. We thought that Arthon had disappeared so many years ago, but the truth is that he had lived in secret, together with his elven followers."

"Oh, My Valar. I have to marry Lord Arthon. What kind of jest is this." Elrond asked with disbelief in his voice but Haldir continued nonetheless. He wanted to lay it all on Elrond's table and he was glad his friend was strong to bare this.

"I know he was your childhood crush Elrond, but this is a matter of importance. The marriage with him will unite his army with yours, and you may count on his skills when the time comes and you cannot fight the darkness alone. He has been near shadow to many times before and he always managed to defeat it with his strong mind. You cannot walk these coming dark hours alone and what my Lady foresees may save us all, because if Imladris surrenders to evil we are all doomed. The darkness had slipped through your defenses and although you cannot see it, I can bet your future husband will. Do not underestimate this precious peace to last too long, all of us were taken by it and we have failed to see the truth."

"But he will never accept Galadriel's message and he will refuse this foolish marriage ... idea. He never liked my kind, Peredhel's, and he had always managed to hurt me with his foul tounge.I was indeed taken by him when I was elfling, but his arrogance always kept me in check. He was unapproachable stone and I don't think he had changed much."
Elrond said as his thoughts brought him back to past and his dreams when he was a mere elfling. He had always dreamt he would be the one Arthon's arms held with care, but he was always flushed down by his Lord's tone. He remembered when he bugged a young advisor Erestor, who was Arthon's cousin, to talk about strange lord every time they had a chance to meet. Erestor was very patient and he always provided Elrond with peace's of informa abo about his crush which Elrond cherished very much. That is how he had come to be Erestor's friend, and now he appreciated that friendship very much.

"You are wrong my friend, he had agreed to marry you in good faith and to unite his forces with yours. It is all signed and delivered and only one not aware about it until now, was you my friend. Arthon is on his way here and I am assuming he will arrive in three days and that is why I was sent here by my Lady, to inform you before he arrives. The marriage will be held in three weeks and he wanted to come early to learn about this realm. I reckon he had never stepped here before. Lady Galadriel will also be present at your weeding along with King Thranduil. This alliance will be indeed formed in a noble way."

If Elrond thought he was shocked before, he was wrong. This was the biggest shock one person could survive in one day. He just stared at Haldir and Galadrhim had wondered if he said to much at one time.

"Haldir, that cannot be. But I thought..."

"Your thoughts held fake presumptions, melon. I reckon Arthon's ways had not changed and his agreement to this marriage is a true miracle, but we cannot judge a person by his past behaviors. Hold some comfort in the fact he had agreed to this marriage, although it is a marriage of convenience. His message to Galadriel stated that his heart will go no further from the seal of that marriage agreement. The only thing you can count on is that his heart will not lay with the marriage affections. He will not be your lover and you cannot ask that of him, but this alliance will be savior of your people. I hope you will agree to this, mellon-nin, because my Lady had foreseen that this marriage is only way to save the light of the elves."
