Day two:

I had a terrible time falling asleep last night! Despite the cozy atmosphere of the "Prancing Pony," and the comfortable bed, my head was just "buzzy" with excitement from all the marvelous events of the day. OK, a bowl-load of "Old Toby" probably didn't help. Finally, Elladan took my head into his lap and started stroking my hair and scalp while Elrohir took my feet in his lap and started massaging them witfragfragrant oil he found in our complimentary "gift basket" from the staff of the "Prancing Pony." They both sang elvish lullabies to me and, even though I didn't understand a single word, the loveoundound of their harmonious voices and the sweet syllables of the elvish songs calmed me down enough to finally slip off into sleep.

This morning I awakened fresh and ready to travel on to Rivendell! Barliman saw us on our way with a picnic basket filled to the brim with tasty treats from his famous kitchen for our travel that day. Before we could leave, he took me aside and warned me that there had been a rumor that Grima' had been spotted lurking outside the village gates the night before and may be following us instead of waiting for me at Orthanc, as I had supposed he was. I assured the Innkeeper that my traveling companions, the Imladris Twins, would be informed to keep a sharp lookout for the lying weasel. He was going to have to wait a while, like it or not, because now that I was in Middle Earth I was darned sure going to see the sights on my way to Isengard!

That day we traveled through the most beautiful scenery I have ever been blessed to see and had a picnic lunch by the side of the road beneath the shade of an old, but not evil, willow tree. We had just finished eating and were packing up our leftovers when who should ride up from the direction of Rivendell but Glorfindel! He had heard how much I had loved his character in the books and wanted to personally escort me the rest of the way to the Last Homely House atride his famous horse, Asfolath! "Lord Elrond is very disturbed that the villain, Grima', may try to waylay your caravan and has sent me ahead to ensure your safe arrival," he explained.

How could I say no? The Twins admire Glorfindel immensely and were not jealous of all of his desire to take me from their sides and went ahead of us in the carriage to Rivendell. I rode in front of Glory, as I came to call him, sideways soouldould lay my head on his chest and enjoy the view simultaneously! He is much more handsome than any of us could have ever imagined and he truly does have an elvish "glow" about hut tut this was not a romantic encounter for he is quite reserved and a proper elf gentleman and, so, I mostly kept my hands to myself. Mostly.

He took me for a side trip to see the famous Weathertop ruins and Bilbo's Stone Trolls! We arrived at Rivendell at sunset and the sudden descent into the valley revealed a breathtaking view of The Last Homely House bathed in the pinky gold light of the setting sun. We were met at the front gate by Lord Elrond and the Lady Arwen, the Twins, of course, and a fabulously old Bilbo Baggins.

Elrond helped me down from the horse and greeted me with kisses on both cheeks. "Welcome, Mary of Haldir_Lover's, (He actually talked like that, with the underline "__ " thingy stuck right in there,) it is both a pleasure and an honor to have such a clever, brave and strong woman, such as yourself, to grace our humble abode. And, now that we finally meet, it is most apparent that your brilliance of mind and strength of heart are only exceeded by your dazzling beauty."

Well, my heart was a-flutter after that little speech, believe you me! I was taken to a private suite of rooms, which had been prepared for me, and Arwen, herself, gave me a beautiful wine-colored velvety gown to wear for the evening's festivities. In my suitcase I found a mysterious gift, someone had slipped a bottle of "Heavenly Hair" shampoo between my clean socks! After I bathed, Arwen helped me with my hair and she complimented me profusely on its silky, smooth texture. The Twins escorted me to the Great Hall of Fire for a welcoming feast with musical entertainment provided by a group he fhe finest harpists and singers I ever heard. The Twins sat at either side of me while we ate so that they could point out the best of the little delicacies and tidbits that were being offered in abundance and to keep my wine glass perpetually full.

Lord Elrond sat across the table from me and he had many questions about our Haldir_Lovers group and its various members. He was most curious about our current fascination with pirates! Elladan and Elrohir had already told him about dressing up and chasing "maidens in distress" around and around the main mast of our pirate ship feature at Haldir_Lovers Paradise Resort (and Theme Park with Riding Stables) and I tried as best I could to explain the allure of beautiful elves dressed as rascally pirates but I had had a little too much Rivendell wine, very potent compared to Lorien wine, and my tongue kept tripping over my teeth!

"We all like to dress up the elves as lots of dirrifent characters and pole-ray dirrifent scenrariro..scenaririo,,scena..situations..." and like that, veryarraarrasing. Lord Elrond, however, was not offended by either my slurred explanations or the idea of elves dressed in pirate gear. "Whatever pleases the fans of Middle Earth, pleases us," he explained, and the hall full of elves raised their gla to to the clever imaginations of all Middle Earth Fan Fiction writers and readers! It turns out that our loving attention keeps all of Middle Earth alive and vital and firmly in place. "Once people stop loving Middle Earth," continued Lord Elrond,"it, too, will fade into oblivion as all old tales must someday fade." I assured him there was no danger of that in the forseeable future!

Elladan carried me to bed, because he won the coin toss, but Elrohir followed close behind to help and I am now dressed in a gorgeous silken sleeping-gown and even though I doubt I will need a foot or head massage tonight, after imbibing in that Rivendell wine, I am going to get them anyway! Tomorrow we finally must turn towards Isengard (shudder) and my eventual date with Grima,. but that is tomorrow, and tomorrow is another day!

(Hmmmm, chocolate syrup and shampoo, I wonder what will show up next?)
