Dreams In Cruel Reality
Chapter 1 Dreams In Cruel Reality
2000 years after the destruction of the One Ring, Rivendell, is peaceful and content. As are the people who live there. Legolas is also peaceful and content to spend most of his time there in Rivendell.
It is the beginning of a beautiful spring in Rivendell and Legolas has postponed all his archer duties f the day to spend it with the princess.
Long after dawn Princess Ilya stood at her window gazing out at the beautiful horizon surrounding her home. Deep in thought she dreamed to herself, a mixture of thoughts and feelings most of Legolas. She sighed as she fiddled with her glistening white gown.
‘Why does such a young elf have so many thoughts’ came a welcome voice.
Ilya turned to find her father standing at her door.
‘Many thoughts father, too many for the short hours of the day. Dreaming is my skill, in dreams we find the peace we seek in life’
‘Maybe so, but wouldn’t dreaming be better fulfilled outside instead of cooped up in this room, my daughter’
Ilya smiled
‘Go child, outside and experience the joys of real life’
With that Ilya planted a gentle kiss on her fathers cheek and headed for the door.
She soon reached the large and enchanting garden. There she leaned against the large willow tree, her favorite of which held all the secrets of her heart. She moved the healthy green leaves and there she read ‘Legolas and Ilya forever’ that had been carved into the tree by Legolas long before. With this image Ilya fell back into her dreams. But unknown to her dreams were about to become reality.
Legolas gently put his arms around her waist, she didn’t flinch at all for she knew it was him, she just smiled.
‘Good day to you Princess’ he said
‘Good day Elf Prince’
‘Why is it always that I find you here’ he asked her
Ilya turned to him a little shocked at such a ridiculous question
‘You know why’
They stared for a minute then laughed at the situation.
Ilya’s long blond hair blew in the warm spring breeze along with the long flowing gown.
Legolas’ deep blue eyes were fixed on her; he need not look anywhere else.
Amidst the peaceful calm of the forest the young Elves seeked fun.
‘Legolas’ Ilya called ‘You can’t catch me’.
With that Ilya took her gown in her hand and ran into the forest. Legolas playfully followed her, both laughing with joy.
The Princess was a carefree spirit when she was under the shelter of the Rivendell trees, especially when she was with Legolas.
Suddenly Ilya disappeared from sight. Legolas scanned the bushes for her but she was nowhere to be found.
‘Ilya’ he called ‘Where did you go?’
Legolas turned around, still looking
‘Come out’
The he heard a huge thud where an apple had fallen in front of him. He looked up to find Ilya sitting in the branches of the apple tree.
‘What are you doing up there?’ he asked her ‘That’s not fair’
‘Do you think I could fly, Legolas?’ she asked
‘I dare not find out’ Legolas answered.
With that the Princess spread her arms and declared
‘If I can’t fly then you’ll have to catch me’
Then she jumped from the tree. Legolas threw his arrows to the ground as Ilya landed in his arms. Both fell to the ground, luckily for Legolas that he had already removed his arrows from his back.
Safe in his arms Ilya gazed into his eyes. Everything came to a stand still, in this moment there was only them and now.
Their lips met in their embrace. The Elf Prince of Mirkwood and the Princess of Rivendell, almost a forbidden love and they both knew it, for Lord Elrond had someone else in mind for his daughter to marry.
Reluctantly Ilya pulled away from Legolas
‘You know my father would probably never let me marry you’ she told him.
‘I know’ he assured her ‘I’m just an archer Prince of Mirkwood, not a great Lord of Middle-Earth’
‘But you’ll always be my Prince’
‘Then I feel greater than any King of Middle-Earth’
Ilya smiled as her lips met his again
‘Anyway’ Legolas interrupted ‘I’m confident I will be able to change his mind’.
‘Come on, I’ll race you to the lake’ Ilya chirped rapidly changing the subject.
She ran off down the path. Legolas rose to his feet and followed her but without noticing, left his arrows behind.
The Princess reached the lake and sat down by it running her fingers through the clear waters. Legolas came and sat beside her.
‘Isn’t it beautiful here’ he asked her.
‘Yes. Wouldn’t this be a lovely place for our wedding?’
‘Then it shall be’ Legolas insisted ‘I will ask your father’
‘When’
‘Tonight. Until then keep this close to your heart’
Legolas produced a large silver locket from his pocket and placed it in Ilya’s hand. She opened it to find a lock of his long golden hair inside.
The pair moved to kiss again but suddenly there was a loud crack.
‘What was that?’ Ilya asked.
‘Stay here’ Legolas ordered as he stood up. Then he noticed somng wng was missing.
‘My arrows’
‘Legolas’
‘Just stay here’ he repeated as he headed into the forest.
As Legolas disappeared from sight Ilya became more and more uneasy, she no longer felt safe, he seemed so far away.
Legolas walked deeper and deeper into the forest searching for his arrows and any sign of intruders in the forest. He stopped, hearing more noises, then he spied an orc behind a bush. He carried on walking, to throw off the orc’s suspicion of discovery, hoping to come across his arrows.
‘What are they doing here’ he thought, then he remembered Ilya was all alone. Abandoning his search for his arrows he turned and began making his way back to the lake. Without his arrows he could not protect her properly but alone she was helpless.
At the lake Ilya had also heard the strange noises from the forest drawing nearer and nearer to her. She began shaking with fear, hoping her beloved Legolas would return from the forest to protect her. She got up and turned away from the lake, as she did a team of orcs rose from the lake with great speed. One grabbed her and tried to pull her into the lake.
‘Legolas!!!’ she screamed. At this he emerged from the forest racing towards her
‘Ilya’ he called but before he could reach her orcs surrounded him and took hold of him
‘Ilya’ he called again
The orcs were pulling at her, marvelled at her innocence. They pulled at her golden hair and her dress both now soaked with the pure water of the lake. They did it to infuriate Las bas but the more he struggled the tighter the orcs grip became on him.
‘Legolas’
Ilya knew that both she and him were helpless
‘Let him go’ she cried, caring only about his safety rather than her own.
More orcs came from the forest and took hold of her, slowly pulling her into the lake. There was no escape and only one thing to do.
‘Amin mela lle’ (I love you) she called to him.
‘Amin hiraetha’ (I’m sorry) Legolas answered.
Before the orcs dragged the beautiful Princess all the way into the lake, on the far side one drew his sword and plunged it into Legolas’ stomach.
‘NO!!!!!!’ Ilya screamed her head just above the water ‘LEGOLAS!!!!!’
The orcs loosened their grip on him and he fell to his knees. He felt his life draining from him as he closed his eyes. The sight of his helpless Princess was too much for him to bear, if she was the last thing he ever saw then he wanted her to be safe. He pictured his innocent beauty running through the forest as she had done that day, just as she was, hair blowing in the breeze, the voice and smile of an angel.
‘Amin mela lle’ (I love you) were the last words he whispered to his love before he fell back into unconsciousness.
Ilya’s head was sinking far
‘Namaarie’ (Farewell) she whispered as her hair swayed under the waters.
