New Teacher

I am apologizing ahead of time for my spelling I know that several names for people and places are spelled wrong; I don’t own the books so I have been unable to find out how there actually spelled.

A Slave with a Snake
Ch 2: New Teacher

It started out as nothing but rumors. People were noticing that Saruman spent more time in his study; unknown cloaked figures have been seen entering and leaving the upper levels of the tower at strange times during the day. “People just get bored so they gossip over the most mundane things.” I said quite often, thinking that the cloaked figures were probably just elves or other wizards passing through. If someone would have told me then what was going to happen I would have slapped them for their insolence. How could I have known?

“Look another robin” The young woman sitting next to me pointed out. While she is a few years younger than me and is studying a completely different sect of magic than me, we have quickly become friends. “Yeah” I stated, quite used to Sibila’s random need to observe every animal she saw. I didn’t even look up as she attempted to talk to the robin. Unfortunately she only succeeded in scaring it off. “Why do I always have a problem talking to birds?” She sighed. “They say birds are the easiest but I guess it’s different for everyone.” I noted trying to cheer her up. Sibila is studying beast speech along with how to control them. She has a deep love for animals but has a hard time with her studies; she seems to always have trouble focusing.

“Yeah” She sighed out watching as the robin flew away. She then stood up “Well I guess I should go and practice some more I will see you at supper bye.” As she left I waved goodbye; letting out a sigh I lean against the large old weeping willow behind me, setting the book in my lap I just close my eyes and just listen. Even though Fangorn was at least a mile away the wind can still carry the whispers of the trees. I have never been able to understand then but their voices always fill me with a kind of peace. “Hello my dear.” I jump at the deep powerful voice that had just appeared before me. “I am sorry I didn’t mean to startle you.” Saruman said with a polite chuckle in his voice, he helped me up. “It is quite alright my lord I was lost in thought.” I breathed out not able to hide the nervousness in my voice. No matter how much time I spend with him I still get quite nervous in his presence. “Come have a walk with me.” He asked as he began to walk about the gardens but not before waiting for me to catch up. Walking with him I make sure to stay slightly behind him out of respect. As always when I’m around him I am just amazed at how tall he is.

“I can’t help but notice how you have gotten much farther in your studies than most of your peers.” I couldn’t help the sense of pride that swelled in my chest at his statement. “I believe you have a lot of potential and I think you would reach the highest level of your abilities if you studied under me personally.” Shocked I stopped mid step. Saruman has rarely taken in students to study under him privately and never before has it been anyone as young as me. His smile and slight laugh at my surprise brought me back to reality. “Thank you my lord I would love to study under you it would be a great honor.” “Good I will have someone bring you to your new quarters and send notes to your previous professors.” He then veered off the path through the gardens and headed towards the entrance of Orthanc. As I thought about what he said all I could do was stand there with a big smile on my face.

Then I turned around began to skip in the direction that Sibila went, extremely excited to tell her the news. I hadn’t even taken five steps when something landed in front of me. I looked up hoping to see where it came from but to no avail. Cautiously I took a step towards it and realized it was smoking, I covered my mouth and nose as the smell of burnt flesh reached my nostrils. At first it appeared to be nothing more than an ashen mass, but after close inspection I realized it was a dove. The bird was obviously dead and that it was set on fire, its once white sleek feathers now charred and singed black, even the grass around it had turned black. ‘Poor thing probably didn’t even see it coming.’ I became angry realizing one of the novices was hitting random birds with fire balls. “They always act like children never realizing the damage they can cause.” I whispered angrily, once I had calmed down I said a small spell and watched as the grass appeared to swallow the bird, once it appeared like no other patch of grass a single white rose erupted from the makeshift grave.

Smiling glad it had gotten at least a simple burial I continued on my way to find Sibila although my previous enthusiasm has been diminished.

Hoped you enjoyed it reviews are always appreciated.
