In Lothlórien, Glorfindel had just finished up a meeting with Lord Celeborn when he had a message come to him inside his mind. Celeborn saw the look on the seneschal's face.
"I just got a message from Master Elrond. Estel has become ill and needs my help. I have to go to him because he collapsed in great pain and they do not know what is wrong. It is urgent that I get there." Glorfindel started to pace the room and was wringing his hands. "I knew this day would come." He looked at Celeborn and said, "My Lord, I have to leave now. I am going to send a message back to Elrond that I'm coming." He stood facing in the direction of Imladris with a blank stare on his face.
"I must go." Glorfindel worried about Estel. He was sure the young man had greatness in his future. 'This was not supposed to happen!' he thought angrily.
"My Lord." Glorfindel bowed to Celeborn and left

Though Legolas had many other duties, Haldir invited him to show some of the trickier shots he had mastered to the troops, Legolas could not refuse. Legolas' skills were legendary amongst the elves. He had always known that he was the best of his clan.
Glorfindel arrived at his talan and started to pack for his journey. He sent a message to Legolas and Haldir that they should accompany him to Rivendell. 'Has it started?' he wondered.
"Glorfindel, you sent for us?" Haldir asked.
The Prince of Mirkwood staggered into the talan behind Haldir and collapsed. He clutched his stomach as a wave of pain shot through him. Glorfindel rushed to him.
"Haldir, run and get me a sedative from the healers." Glorfindel said urgently.
Glorfindel placed Legolas on the bed and examined him, noticing that his eyes were closed and his legs drawn up to his stomach in pain. This was not good. Healthy Elves slept with their eyes open. Haldir arrived just in time to see Legolas clench his stomach as another pain shot through his body.
By the time the Lady of Light and Celeborn entered, Legolas had been given a sedative, but no one knew what caused the pain. Glorfindel came up to Galadriel and explained.
"I have an idea of why this is happening. When I was with Celeborn earlier, a message came from Rivendell saying that Estel collapsed with what sounds like the same pains. Elrond doesn't know what to do but I think I do. I have always wondered why I was sent back to Middle Earth after I fought that Balrog in Gondolin. Now, I feel it is because of Estel and Legolas. Somehow it is tied in with Estel's coming of age next month and the last elf-born in Middle-earth. I must go if I'm to keep both of them alive." With that said, he bowed to both the Lord and Lady and got ready for his journey.
As Legolas lay in a soft bed covered up with a blanket a warm liquid enters his mouth and he relaxes.
Somehow he is in a garden leaning up against a tree. Off in the distance, he sees a beautiful young man enter. He is not very old because his face is devoid of beard and his hair hangs longer than his shoulders. He is dressed in a white tunic. The young man starts walking across the grass. There is nothing on his feet because the ground is very soft. His legs are long and muscular. Legolas is a little curious about him. That's when he sees his features are beautiful. But he notices that he is no elf. He is a man. How can this be!
Beside Legolas on the grass is a blanket. Where did that come from? When he looks up he sees the man right next to the blanket. The man takes off his tunic and lays down on the blanket. Heat starts to well up in Legolas. He notices a tightness in his groin. Legolas reaches around his neck and pulls his tunic off. He lies down on the blanket and faces this beautiful man.
They look into one another's eyes and are lost. Somehow this feels right. Legolas brings up his left hand and strokes his mate's chin. He notices a scar on his upper lip.
His blanket mate disappears. He is gone just like that.
Legolas sits up and looks around the field. He cannot find him.

Estel had woken up. He batted his eyes at the bright light coming in from the windows. He tried to sit up when he felt a hand on his shoulder pushing him back down on the bed. He was so tired. He looked to his right and noticed Lord Glorfindel. He smiled at him. Something told him to look to his left. In the bed next to him was a young elf. It couldn't be! Not the elf of his dream.
He turned back to Glorfindel with a shocked look on his face. Glorfindel patted his hand and Estel went back to sleep.
In the bed next to him was Legolas. He had been transported to Rivendell. He opened his eyes and looked around. He noticed that he was in the Houses of Healing in Rivendell. He was safe. But from what? What had happened to him.? Last thing he remembered was walking behind Haldir in Lothlórien and then slumped to the floor.
He bolted upright in bed and looked to his right. In the bed next to him was the man in his dream. What was he doing here? So this was where he went to when he disappeared in his dream. But who was this man that slept in the bed next to him? He laid back down on his bed and closed his eyes, feeling tired.
Everyone in the room looked at what had transpired between the two that were lying in bed. Lord Elrond cleared the room except for himself, Glorfindel and the healer.
"What is this?" he asked Glorfindel.
"I'm afraid that these two are connected to something that is going to happen for the rest of their lives." He rose from the chair and went to the window. "I know the reason I was sent back here after I was killed by the balrog. I am to get these two ready for their destinies. Estel's coming of age is in less than one month and Legolas is the last elf that is going to leave Middle Earth. This is to happen on the day of the last of Elros' descendants. The elf's last days here have to be that of the love of a man and Estel needs the love of an elf so that he can go to the Undying Lands with his people. He will be the last one to go."
Elrond could not believe his eyes. Estel was to have the love of an elf for the rest of his days? "What happens if he does not want it?"
"Then he will become mad with fear and his cramps will never cease. This also applies to Legolas. He will kill everyone that crosses his path. No one will be able to control his rage. We do not need a mad elf on our hands."
Lord Elrond could not doubt what Glorfindel was saying. After all he was the only elf that came back from the Halls of Waiting. Never before has that ever happened.
"What are we to do?"
Glorfindel turned from the window and said, "Haldir and I will take care of everything. I taught Haldir what to do years ago just in case something happened to me. He will look after Legolas. I will look after Estel and teach him what he needs to do to get through this." He turned to the healer.
"I want you to stop the herbal teas. Now that they are in the same room. Their spasms will cease. But all in all, they must never leave Rivendell until Haldir and I have done our duty to stop these convulsions. I need to have their minds clear so that they can think straight." With that he left the room.
